-- PRESENTATION: ONO HA ITTŌ RYŪ KENJUTSU --
The famous swordsman Ittosai Kagehisa is said to be at the roots of the Ono-ha Ittō-ryū, which was founded by his direct successor, Ono Jiroemon Tadaaki, in the early 16th century. It is the oldest of the many Ittō-ryū styles. Ono was one of two instructors of the Shōgun Tokugawa, rivaling with Yagyū Munenori of the Yagyū Shinkage Ryū. There are more than 150 techniques in the Ono-ha Ittō-ryū Kenjutsu, using both long and short swords. It still is one of the most important of the traditional Kenjutsu styles today, and it is the Koryu that influenced modern Kendo the most, including its Kata, tactics, and aesthetic.
