Max’s Lifestyle is the name of this Umlazi favourite eatery. It began as a butchery next to the local taxi rank has become a restaurant, Bar and VIP Lounge with just the right balance of locals and visitors. The kind of success that feeds the soul of food-lover Lungi Nhlanhla and her blog Lungi’s Corner.
Chicken, liver, wors and chops made our cut. You choose your spice and Lungi being a Consumer Science major and restaurant manager - we were in safe hands. The tavern vibe remains from the early days when customers came for a Sunday braai and hot chilli sauce after Saturday nights in Durban. Max added a quieter VIP restaurant but even here that vibrant shisa nyama atmosphere comes with your dish.
Max has brought jobs, development and a beacon of inspiration to his community. Next, he plans a boutique hotel in Umlazi and everything suggests he’ll do it.
