Whenever someone asks me what my favorite film is, I say 'Birdy'. Truly underrated film. Thanks for reviewing and enjoying it.
I was lucky enough to watch the film at the cinema. It blew me away. Now I trying to find parts of the film which have haunted me. Both actors are stunning and the soundtrack is unforgettable in it's ethereal sounds. Thanks to Peter Gabriel for the music. Words can't describe the beautiful film.
I am very glad that you enjoyed "Birdy" and decided to review it. The novel was set during WWII, believe it or not, but the updating to the Vietnam war works very well indeed.
The movie won a Special Jury Award at the Cannes Film Festival, for the Peter Gabriel score and the innovative and novel way that the score helps to propel the story.
Nowadays it is not evident, but in the early 1980s the music was groundbreaking. It was Gabriel's first film score. He reworked music from his 3rd and 4th solo albums, the ones with heavy African and World influences, into instrumental-only pieces, with heavy emphasis on deep layering and early use of digital sampling, which was new, cutting-edge technology in 1980-82. And the then-new, huge sound of gated drum reverb -- the so-called "Phil Collins Sound" that pervaded the entire decade of the 80s -- was actually invented and developed by Peter Gabriel and his sound engineer and utilised for the "Birdy" soundtrack.
Great movie. I wish more people were aware of it, today.
Coming to the movie knowing pretty much nothing, I found it to be captivating. I think that most people will enjoy the film if they just give it a chance.
Very much familiar with this soundtrack but had no idea it was this recognized!
I gather that this film is also about 'identity' and how war destroys men's identities. At one point Alfonso says something to birdy about their identities being taken from them. Truly heartbreaking.
So that whole ending span of the film was Birdie still mute and Al just imagining all of it?
Love the movie, I just saw it. I loved everything, the story, the ambient, the performances, the cinematography... god, why is is underrated? I almost cry in some places
Whole heartedly agree with everything you said.
@@DavidGonzalez-tv2lf I cried, and I'm not ashamed of it
One of the best movies ever❤❤❤
I discovered this film when it came out. As a big fan of Peter Gabriel's work I really enjoyed his soundtrack to this film. In fact id heard it before i saw the film. So dark and moody. Loved the film, the character of Birdy mentally collapsing and retreating into himself was very powerful to me very emotional.
It is surprisingly relatable.
Two of the films from the 80’s that made me love cinema were both by Alan Parker Birdy and The Wall
Yikes, I don’t think I’ve ever fully watched the wall.
I just watched this now. I loved it!
Really glad you enjoyed it.
Great movie and soundtrack
Agreed.
This movie was really poignant. I really liked it
