Helped me out in a NOW way. I'm putting it back in right now. Had to see this to find out the right place for the bottom bolt. I just needed to pull up the alternator so the fastener goes through the threaded flange on the alternator. Now I feel stupid. The jobs not all that bad really. I paid $264 for a remanufactured one from the local stealership here in Oakland county Michigan. I thought I was buying a new one till i picked it up. Surprised. (Had 244,000 miles on vehicle.) But it looks like a good one. One year warranty. Going back out to finish up as soon as the rain stops. Thanks. Good Job on all the details!
Thanks for your video. Just replaced my alternator on a 2000 Sienna. Hoping to get a few more miles out of her at 245,000. My idler pulley adjuster bolt broke while trying to remove. Added a new assembly to the cost of repair. Total repair cost with oem alternator and the assembly was less than $115. Quote to fix was over $350!! Thanks!!!
Exactly what I needed, my alternator was fine but i bought the car and it had no tensioner bolt so this was a godsend to see how to install an amazon replacement thank you
Thank you! Great video. This is what is allowing me so save a lot of money at a crucial time. One suggestion: incorporate an intro with a tools needed layout. That would help quite a bit.
Not related but I love watching you work on cars you make everything look so easy and your so detailed in your work....I hope someone very special is taking good care of you as their husband. I will continue to support your channel.
The true its i never see somebody explain everything like you congratulations i want install new alternator to my van sienna 2001 and please do it more videos thankyou
Nice video, very informative. I was able to do my alternator no problem myself. The tension pulley bolt is a little tricky to get back in, but I finally got it. Thanks
Good thing I watched to the very end! I did take my totally dead battery to get charged, and now it is working great. I was a little unsure how tight to make the belt. You said it could move a half to three fourths inch. I'm not sure, but I think I did that. What happens if I accidentally got it a little too tight? BTW, great video and so easy for us to follow. It was really hard getting the bolt back in that attaches and locks the adjuster because the new one was slightly off. We had to take off the back bolt, and loosen the black metal part where the front attaches to the car, so we could just push everything slightly around to make that bolt go through.
Nice commentary. One request, better lighting down in the lower area. Specifically "that block tensioner hole down". Couldn't see it, but that's the reason I searched for a video.
very detailed and helpful video...i was literally stuck on the hoses and couldnt get the old alt out, moving the ac line helped juuuuust enough to get it out, now the hard part will be putting a new one in the same way. I have an 06 model, and i guess some of the features are a bit different...just really hope i don't damage the ac line.
update: just finished putting the new alternator in and getting everything adjusted. She started right up, zero issues...no check engine or battery lights! Took a drive around the block, still no issues. The REAL test will be my hour & a half trek to work tonight....fingers crossed!! But as of now, Thank you dude! your video was BeyOND helpful!
The main bolt is a bit of a bear to put in. The outside bracket has a slot, so once you have the alternator started on the engine mount, try to slip the bolt in the outside/left side hole on the bracket. It will now clear the AC line. Wiggle the alternator back until the main mount is aligned, and the bolt slips through. The slot is shown in the video, but not really clearly.
Excellent video how to replace your alternator it is directed to the point and it also shows you any troubleshooting spots that need to be replaced thank you very much I got a lot of acknowledgement from this video respectfully Rudy Tapia Jr
Did you replace the brushes? I think if the original alternator is still OK at the time you took it out, just replace the brushes. You can have the vehicle alternator for 3 more years easily.
The bottom bolt is difficult to put in place. I hope I'm not the only one having problems. Wish you could show if the tension bolt goes on top or bottom of the bottom bolt. Thanks
Narie Narie, at 1:23 I talk about the main pivot bolt (14mm socket). Then there is the tensioner lock bolt and the tensioner bolt itself. 3 bolts altogether
What do you mean about to make sure the A/C system is cleared? Sorry if it’s a dumb question, I just don’t know how to do that! I’m a DIY with YT help!
I need help, if you can. My Toyota Sienna glove compartment is stuck locked, and the key doesn't work. I have seen some videos about fixing it, but none of them how how to get it open while it is locked. They just show after you get it open. I am almost ready to just rip and tear it out! Can you help?
This is the best video in the you tube for alternator replacement in Toyota Sienna
Thanks for clearly showing all the bolts and how to mount the belt back !!
I think this is the easiest, most well explained mechanic video I’ve ever seen--thank u!
Thanks man 🤙🏽

The bottom bolt is difficult to put in place. I hope I'm not the only one having problems. Wish you could show if the tension bolt goes on top or bottom of the bottom bolt. Thanks
Beside the tensioner bolt isnt there 1 more bold on the alternator? I am working on a 2003 maybe they changed the design on the later models?

Yikes. That would be a job for a locksmith perhaps.
My pivot bolt had a washer in the area how come you didn't mention a washer
Was wondering if there is a torque on the pivot bolt?
I’m sure there is but torque isn’t critical in this application. Just tighten firmly :)
Thanx👍
Thank you that show me
No problem
What is the amp on that alternator ?
I'd be scared to wrench with a watch on my wrist...
