  • We documented the process of installing and setting up a Starlink roaming service in Qld Australia. It's very easy to do, but quite costly. The current price for the roaming plan (which can be paused at any time) is $174 AUD per month. I found the download speeds for streaming high definition video etc to be really good, however the upload speed is a little disappointing. Check out Starlink here: www.starlink.com/au/roam

    That download speed is better than my home internet. It used to be better but they piss fart around constantly with this stuff and it gets worse and costs more. 2024 baby! I'm glad Starlink will do the job Josh.

      Cheers bruz, I've since figured out how to upload my edited vids to YT using my phone thru the Starlink instead of the PC (there's a lil trick to it) so yeah that helps with energy consumption 💪

    @HillPhantom 23 дня назад +1

    Hell yea mate, Starlink has changed the way I work and play, or both at same time rather lol. The ability to pause is awesome. Expensive here in states but well worth it not only for play but for safety and such. Cheers!

      Cheers man did you happen to do any real testing on power consumption of it on AC vs DC?

    • @HillPhantom
      @HillPhantom 23 дня назад +1

      @@MVDBR nah but I am going to get a killowatt meter tomorrow during prime day so I can do some testing. From my research its kinda confusing. They say you get about 25% more out of a DC connection which I can see as the conversion from AC to DC is super inefficient. Ill do a video one it once I get the killowatt meter tho...

      @MVDBR  23 дня назад

      @@HillPhantom awesome man keen to see the results. I have seen one vid where a dude reckoned it was pretty much the same 🤷‍♂ but I don't see how that could be, unless the 12-48v converter was inefficient. Cheers mate

    Nice! I have been using the V2 Dishy on “home” service for the last year and a half here in interior Alaska. One tip to help your cable last longer, make sure the “heat dish” is turned off when it snows (if you ever get any), as that draws to much power for the v2 cable and burns it out. You likely won’t need that where you are, but I thought I would mention it for any of your viewers that might.

    • @MVDBR
      @MVDBR  25 дней назад +1

      Thanks for the tip mate! Yeah I did turn that off when I was browsing thru the settings... if it ever gets that cold where I am my fingers will be too frozen to use any connected devices anyway hahaha. Cheers 🍻

  • @Sum4Seb
    @Sum4Seb 25 дней назад +1

    That's a great setup! We had to wait a year and a half to get ours when it came out but it is 100 times better than what we had before. We've hit 320/58 speeds but like you said it's not consistent. Pricey but worth it if you live in rural areas with no other options. 1 step closer to bring ready on the road 🍻

    • @MVDBR
      @MVDBR  25 дней назад +1

      320/58! Yeahhhh boi. I'm not sure why my speed tests consistently run 18-20 upload but the reality of uploading to the 'tube seems to sit more at 8-10 😥

    you should pause the service while you're on the East Coast and hotspot with your phone, then activate it once you head out into the far outback

    • @MVDBR
      @MVDBR  25 дней назад

      Yeah good in theory mate but I don't know of any phone plans with enough data for what I need (not on the full Telstra network anyway) plus the speeds are pretty ordinary out of the cities. Definitely a good way to save a few bucks tho if you can make that work. Maybe one day we'll get decent unlimited mobile data in this fkn country 🤞

    • @MVDBR

      Yeah but then the sun isn't shining to keep the computer going haha. I don't think it makes much difference anyway it seems like the upload speed is capped or throttled or something. And yeah I am gonna introduce yas to mum properly, when I can pin her down for more than 5 mins. She's fkn go go go 😅

    Bloody cool thing for remote travel ,just offset PC power consumption with more solar input in daylight hours ,my aircon pulls 1180w 46amps on 26v lithium 280ah my solar in put 1.4kw runs from 11am to 3pm without any draw on battery in summer

      @@MVDBR yeah winter sucks my solar is making stuff all ATM need to cut down trees sun is so low ,,,you could get 2x300w itech blankets fold them out when needed lol not cheap but think they only put out 180w each but can fold them up ,if your going stay in one spot you need plenty of solar or your starting genset up to charge

    Great job Josh and mum (awesome wine glass she has🍷) those speeds are pretty good mate, we are on wireless NBN to a local tower, just did a speed test, 25.6 download 3.6 upload, crappy, no wonder it takes me so long to upload a RUclips video, cheers 🍻🍻

    • @MVDBR
      @MVDBR  25 дней назад +1

      Yikes yeah that's not real flash Mike, still better than the old dial-up days though aye 😅🍻 Uploading to YT this hovers around 8-10 most of the time so I shouldn't really complain 🤷‍♂ was expecting a little more for the money though.
