My problem with Rhaena replacing Nettles:-
If she does claim Sheepstealer in the show, then she might also reconnect with her father and become close to him. Some have speculated that she will face Rhaenyra's wrath for having left her little kids go to Pentos alone, and leave with Daemon. While such an arc could have its merits, it also fails at several things.
Yes, Rhaena would solve the main frustration that defines her as a character: not being recognized by her peers, her family and mostly her father. Becoming a dragonrider, she will gain the attention that he never gave her, as she revealed to her mother Laena on the episode she was introduced (1x06). But the problem with this progression is that it she will have no part in it. Yes, it appears she will go and dare claim the dragon, but it is something she has already dared doing in the past, as Rhaenyra said in 2x05. So Rhaena becoming a dragonrider will be due to nothing but the writers forcingly putting a dragon in the Vale (which GRRM hates) and Rhaena finally managing to mount it for whatever reason. Then Daemon will respect that and, having done his own progress in Harrenhall, might wish to spend more time with his daughters. Except that this progression relies only on Daemon's arc and takes away all agenda on Rhaena's behalf, which seems to be a running thread in this adaptation.....
Rhaena suffered all her life from her father ignoring her due to his own feeling of supremacy and, instead of chosing her own path, she will simply... manage to meet the expectations that she always suffered from and will become another dragon-riding Valyrian. And that's it.
Not unlike book Sansa (with which she shares the Vale as her training ground), Rhaena could found her own way, different from her sister's warrior path, as a politician, a Targaryen who makes her way not through dragon terrorism but through diplomacy, eloquence and mastery of court skills. She could be the one who manages to negociate the Vale sending armies, despite the departure of the young dragons. And the end, at the end of the show, alone at last, she eventually sees an egg hatch, not for her own advancement but for her house. In this way, Nettles keeps her arc. Daemon keeps his arc. His worldview is shattered and his feeling of superiority is crushed, he is humbled. But his arc, in the book, was never about building something, whether a family, a legacy, an everyday life. He is chaotic. It would fit his character that, in the end, he recognizes his failure as a father, and accepts to die for Rhaenyra whom he groomed, to make up for his failures, saving Nettles and the rest from Vaghar. Rhaena keeps her arc: instead of desperately trying to be as all her family, she grows on her own, learns to dissociate herself from her father. It would be interesting, at the end, to see Baela having a sort of nostalgia, a dependance on her father's memory, she who always checked the boxes of Valyrian girls, while Rhaena has outgrown him.
Instead, think about this if Rhaena gets Sheepstealer, and Nettles' story, then we will have a character whose growth is about finally fitting the delusions of grandeur of their absent parent and becoming what they expected of them.
Without Nettles, Rhaena's arc becomes dependant on chance and on Daemon's character instead of going its route, which sucks.

Can you please explain the Jon’s involvement in “Prince that was promised”? It is very confusing. In GOT both Dany and Jon were illustrated as Prince that was promised. As far as I can remember GOT show writers confirmed that Jon was the prince that was promised. But according to Daemon’s vision, it is giving hints to confirm that Dany is the prince that was promised. Though Jon was also Targaryen and unite the nations to fight against white walkers the vision did not show anything about it. Can you please explain the possibilities?

This prophecy thing is stupid
George always said his stories are about the human heart in conflict with itself. Now they've stripped all of that away for some dog shit prophecy that gives Rhaenyra and Daemon divine superiority. Daemon telling rhaenyra "winter is coming" after having a vision of the night king and dany is one of the worst things i have ever seen and the full episode is not going to fix that.
Not to mention helaena showing up in the same vision and telling the man responsible for her sons death that "it's all a story and he knows his part."
if these characters no longer have any agency then what's the fucking point?

The funny thing is that this vision showing both of those things SHOULD be taken as both being the threats that the realm should be united against, but Dany fans will twist it to be that Dany is proven as the PTWP for being shown here. The director for this episode is the one who said that the eggs shown in the previous episode she directed are Dany's eggs and that it was the thing she was most excited to shoot, so I'd say it's clear what her intentions were when including Dany in the vision in the first place. It'll be interesting to see what Condal says to the backlash for that because he definitely walked back the 'Syrax laid Dany's eggs' claim after the director 'confirmed' that they were. I just hate that it completely cheapens the story of the succession crisis by trying to give some divine reasoning to Daemon and Rhaenyra rather than showing how much the realm suffers under Targaryen rule. Targs being told of a prophecy and then making themselves the center of it, or becoming paranoid because of it, and it bringing about their downfall has been an ongoing theme with the Targaryens and it shouldn't be any different here with Rhaenyra, either.
I guess my biggest issue is that they went into this series completely ignoring why Aegon has a legitimate claim and instead chose to write it all off as a misunderstanding, where they should have approached it with the express purpose of dividing the viewers on who is in the right here. I know they wanted the series to be critical of patriarchy, but the thing is that Aegon himself falls victim to this same system that Rhaenyra is struggling against. That would have been a much more nuanced portrayal of how patriarchal systems can negatively effect more than just highborn women. It would have leaned into how tragic of a character Aegon actually is and how tragic the whole Dance of the Dragons period in Targaryen history itself actually is. This whole war ends up being just a huge L for house Targaryen as a whole. But they don't take it in this direction at all. They never had any intentions of portraying anyone on the green side as anything other than obvious villains. Rhaenyra finally says in this episode what the writers have been dancing around this whole time, in that in order to secure her claim, she needs to take Aegon's head which is what convinced Aegon himself to take the crown in the first place, in the book. He took the crown to save his family because they all knew that Rhaenyra needing to kill anyone else with a rival claim is the only way she would be able to secure her rule. He never even wanted it. But they chose to not include that in the show and now, when the time comes and he kills her, the show will portray him as being evil for doing the exact same thing that Rhaenyra herself just said she has no choice but to do. And now, doubly so because
of how they are using the prophecy to make
Rhaenyra's side appear more virtuous.
GRRM said, going into season 1, that the series would present it as both sides being equally grey and both sides having equal justification for their claims, but we haven't been shown that at all. Even the death of Aegon's son was used to demonstrate how evil the greens are and how kindhearted good queen Rhaenyra is. The writing for this show feels completely disingenuous. It's like Condal was a huge Dany fan and that Rhaenyra is the closest he'd ever get to her, so he has tried to force every parallel to her that he could, to the point that she doesn't even feel like Rhaenyra anymore. Shoehorning this vision in for Daemon is just another example of that. It's so transparent. I would say she should have more parallels with Rhaegar, if they are going the route of her becoming obsessed with the prophecy, and that is what, ultimately does her in. Book Rhaenyra reads like Cersei Lannister with dragons, though. Neither of which are Dany.
I liked the greens in the books because I think Aegon has a much stronger character arc than Rhaenyra. But at this point I don't think they are doing justice to any of the characters in this series, Rhaenyra included. She should have been allowed to have been her own character, not a cheap stand in for Dany.
Agree to most of your points actually. This is echoed in some other HOTD forums too. TV series interpretation is trying to be poetic instead of realistic and grounding.
