    When I said I wanted to know how this works I meant the mechanical stuff like how do you get water to the top? We’re is it coming from? How long can it be on? Can you change how much water comes out? If something brakes how do you fix it? How do you install a slide? And more questions about the mechanics and system that runs it.
    Still I enjoyed the video even if it wasn’t what I originally wanted to watch.

    liv - your terminal velocity analysis is flawed because the second slide isn't straight down. To be close to exact, you would need to have the slides even out for 2x the original length with the bumps. This is my favorite poker video ever btw.

    • @PurpleFiiilth
      @PurpleFiiilth 6 лет назад +2

      What is flawed about it, seems right to me. The slides don't have to be straight down for terminal velocity to exist. And where did you get the figure that the slides have to be 2x their length? Sounds like you just pulled it out of your ass to try to make yourself seem smart by pointing out errors that don't exist. Try again.

    • @eklipso73
      @eklipso73 6 лет назад

      I'm sorry, I was bored and I decided to make a comment. It's simple neutonian mechanics purple...if the slide curves upwards at a different angle than the other slide, it increases the drag which brings the object to less than its terminal velocity (which would be achieved anyway because the timing of the slide to the water, but I don't want to get into semantics here). Anyway, to get an accurate depiction of which object will fall faster (one object with more mass than another object), then you need even slides that won't skew the curve so to speak. If you want a calculation, I can give you one, but I really don't want to go through the effort unless you're really interested.

    • @eklipso73
      @eklipso73 6 лет назад

      Oh, and you're somewhat correct about the 2x length of the slides. I was just estimated the length based upon a typical 6" person. To really be accurate, the slide should be long enough so that terminal velocity would be achieved. Look up newton's 2nd law. It's pretty much self-explanatory. What isn't self explanatory is the fact that only after a bottle and a half of wine, I misspelled newton. hah.

    • @PurpleFiiilth
      @PurpleFiiilth 6 лет назад

      Of course the slides have to be identical, what is the point of even mentioning that, for the purposes of the experiment the slides are "approximately equal." Raising the angle of the slide doesn't necessarily increase the drag, that would depend on the direction of the wind, so I don't know where you get that assumption from. Also "terminal velocity" is just a general term which depends on the conditions of the system, it doesn't just refer to objects in free fall, which is the impression I get from you. Perhaps you mean that as the angle of the slide increases the terminal velocity of the object increases, since it is approaching conditions of free fall. In any case I have yet to see what flaw she made.

    Something I noticed is that if you push down with your heels and shoulder blades, creating a smaller contact area (but with higher pressure) you gain speed.
    I suppose the main reason here is not friction against the water slide, but that you are somehow gaining more speed than the water so water resistance is less when less of you are in the water going down the chute?

    The slipperiness of the slide is entirely down to hydrodynamic factors surely? Your body in contact with the slide is acting as a hydrodynamic bearing as in a Michell or Kingsbury bearing, lifting your body up onto a film of water. A sharp angular body is going to work less well than a larger more padded body that conforms easier to the flat slide.
    Experiments on water slides easily demonstrated this, if you sit up slightly pressing down with your elbows, heels and bum, you will go down slower as your extremities break through the film of water supporting you away from the slide. On the other hand, simple coulomb friction predicts that the area of the sliding surface makes no difference.
