I just read Swift and Saddled and I was so bored!!! Everything was so surface level. And I DNFed Wild Love like 20% in. I could not have been less invested in that story.
I wouldn’t say I was let down per se…more like not surprised, but I dnf’d Wild Eyes lmaoo it was kinda corny and instalove-esque to me but I guess I’m in the minority bc everyone else seems to love it. Also, Green Light..I dnf’d that one too lol it was so cringe but people ate it tf up!
I also did not care for Phantasma. I read the arc and gave it 2 stars. Then when it came out everyone was raving about it so I started to think I missed something. I just don’t have it in me to attempt to reread it. It gave me Caraval vibes, but just didn’t work for me.
👎🏽 Usually "character-driven" books happen in contemporary/romance/love story books. If that will be the case, the characterisation needs to connect to the overall narrative for the book to be amazing.
I only read Wild Love and I couldn't agree more. I didn't even completely like the second book actually... I think I won't continue reading the series...
Okay I have to admit most of these shocked me! I have only read Project Hail Mary and Bride from this list and I loved them so I may use your list as a recommended tbr for myself LOL. Everyone has different taste and I have had 0 patience this year for lackluster books so I have dnf'd some that would probably shock people too... the most recent being How my Neighbor Stole Christmas, I was so excited for it too.
I have yet to read an Alli Hazelwood book. My most disappointing book this year would have to be The Throne of Honor and Blood. Book one was great. I absolutely loved it, but in book 2, I absolutely hated it.
Yes…. Bride was my very first disappointment read in 2024… followed by Fate Inked in Blood (towards the end), and Hail Mary. While the audiobook was good, the story seemed repetitive. Zodiac Academy and Powerless were others I DNFd
lol feel the same about phantasma and I was so disappointed cuz everything about it feels like I would go feral for it. but it was so repetitive and the romance was meh.
I whole heartedly agree with you about Wild Love. I couldn’t have said it better myself! Also I tried Bride when it first came out and DNF’d it, however I did pick it back up at Halloween, just because my sister was like “give it another try” and I gave it 3 stars. It wasn’t the best or worst book I’ve read, but I do agree with your opinion of it. And don’t get me started on Project Hail Mary 🙄 I did read the whole book, but there was a part in there where someone’s choice was taken from them, and that just made me so mad!! You should be happy you didn’t finish it! 👎
👎 you're not the only one that didn't really enjoy Wild Love, but thought we were spoilt with all the Chesnut Spring books. Loving Wild Eyes so far though.
Wild Eyes was a decent read for me, which was surprising. I also so the issues you saw plus the mom made little to no issues with Ford’s involvement. But what made this a surprise was that I hate the single dad trope (book two in Chestnut Springs was not a favorite). In fact, I only read it because it was Elsie Silver. So, with lowered expectations I ended up enjoying it. Now, Ali Hazelwood is an author that’s just not for me. I haven’t liked anything by her. Most of the reads from this second half of the year were disappointing as well. 😔
I hated When the Moon Hatched. Hated it. The biggest problem was romanticizing anorexia. The main character eats a grape, one grape, during the entire first month of the book (there may have been some potato chips in there at some point but no actual meal). The second worse thing - competing for number one - was the horrendous pretentious convoluted writing... I really cannot think of a worst book.... Sorry I know many people liked it but I think it is extremely problematic.
My worst book of 2024 was The Husbands by Holly Gramazio! Just so ridiculous and boring! This has been one of the worst reading years I’ve ever had! Hopefully 2025 will be better…👎🏻
Your intro is very respectful haha. Me filming my worst books today: " I am going to be snarky and I'm not going to hold back" 😂😂
i love your necklace!! + i agree on bride & phantasma! so disappointing
Target!
My son also felt the same way as you about project hail mary, so you're not alone.
Your makeup looks so pretty!!
Thank you!

You know what’s funny is that I started Phantasma this week after loving Anathema. Now you have me considering dropping it for better books😅

Wild Love was one of my favorites 🤣
A Hundred Summers by Beatriz Williams was my lowest rated book of the year.
👎 My worst book of the year was Never by Jessa Hastings. DON’T recommend.
