    "It's all psychological. You yell shark, everybody says, "Huh? What?" You yell jellyfish, we've got a panic on our hands on the 15th of August."

    Friday the 13th involves actual strategy and includes enough interesting sidequests, weapons, and cheats that make the game replayable even after you beat it. The ticking clock also adds a sense of urgency. The Jason and Pamela fights are also challenging, unlike Jaws in this game. This one looks pretty mind numbing after playing for just a few minutes. Still nice to see the ending for this game. As a kid, I had no idea what to do.

      Completely agree! There's a lot more depth to Friday the 13th than Jaws... no pun intended. I'm partial because I always go to bat for Friday the 13th on the NES, Jaws... not so much.

    Great guide! The strobe portion at the end is definitely horrible. Unless you're on the speedrun script, it can be a giant pain!

    • @VideoGames101
      @VideoGames101  Год назад +2

      Yeah you run out of strobes and you have to hunt around for him again. It takes a lot of luck really that he won't dart left or right at the last second.

      @@VideoGames101 It’s too bad there’s no way to manipulate that, the in game RNG is nuts for Jaws

    This game get a lot of crap but for some reason we used to rent it all the time when we were kids ... Probably because it was jaws and we loved the movies haha. Good stuff man just found your channel. Just subbed. I do similar content on RUclips so i definitely appreciate the effort you put into your reviews.

    • @VideoGames101
      @VideoGames101  Год назад +1

      Ha I appreciate it! And yeah it's not a bad game but there's some games which you need a whole rental weekend to unpack and figure out. Jaws you could probably return the same afternoon and still get the full experience.

    One more bit about the original animatronic shark; Steven Spielburg and the rest of the crew hated it so much for malfunctioning that they gave it the nickname of "The Great White Turd", even though it was named Bruce.

      Haha I don't blame him, putting all that work into something and it all hinges on the stupid shark functioning.

    The purpose of collecting the stars when killing jelly fish and sting rays is indeed for points, but there’s a purpose for it, it is not done to simply compete with your friends for setting score records, no, the purpose of the points is so that once you earn enough, I don’t recall how many you need, but once you collect enough points it will make the submarine appear on the map screen for you to collect. It will appear at 1 of 4 possible locations on the map screen, I believe, that’s the only purpose that collecting points serves.

      Excellent supplementary info Nico and yes you are spot on. Not necessary, but nice to have that extra hit in the tank to burn if you need it when a jellyfish pops up at the worst time.

    Im so going to have to check out your channel. Thank you for the jaws game stuff, thats awesome. I have to find a walk through on how to troubleshoot a Nintendo machine. I think mine would be okay with a cleaning or something simple but ive been too scared to mess with it

      I hear you; I've got two of the classic front loading ones and thankfully haven't had to touch my "backup" even after all these years. I'd recommend concentrated rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab on the connectors as well as the exposed part of any game cartridges you want to play themselves. The higher the percentage the better (ideally +90%) as it contains less water.

    • @KB3TLR
      @KB3TLR Месяц назад

      @VideoGames101 yeah I've heard that too. I think my mistake was games from ebay, which is why I think it maybe needs cleaned. I'm just scared imma break it or something. Other than the ebay games it's original and stuff from when I was a kid. I keep it in the original box and everything

    I think the strobes were used as a high voltage source to momentarily electrocute Jaws and force him out of the water or something like that

    • @VideoGames101
      @VideoGames101  Год назад +1

      Ha makes more sense than picturing him launching off the dance floor as I mused.

    • @Robert-nu4vc
      @Robert-nu4vc 10 дней назад

      It's a strobe light. It doesn't electrocute him. Don't ask me how a strobe light would make a shark jump out of the water, but that's what is used in the game.

    Great work Professor and TAs, as always! I love this game even though it's not that great. Partly just nostalgia as I didn't have a NES growing up and my best friend did and for a while this was one of the only games he had, but I also find it kinda relaxing, oddly. Also I think the diving sections are more fun than they have a right to be, with lots of close calls making it more exciting lol. Speaking of 5:29 Daaaaaamn that was close I had to point it out. You always thread the needle and make it look easy Professor!

    For me, this is a guilty pleasure, much like Friday the 13th (though this one is far easier and shorter). I'm probably in the minority since I like the minigame portion. Good point about taking on Jaws in the plane! As for getting more strobes from the ports, that's new to me. Typically by the time I get power 5, it's time for me to take the big guy on. Never came across the debug menu!

    You make jokes about shells being the currency of this game. Anyone can get money, but when you have jellyfish and rays the size of a human, and sharks the size of a small plane. Having the guts to collect shells even when said jellyfish and rays can destroy an entire minisub? Even the few dozen you collect during a playthrough could be what few this game's economy could see for a long time.

    • @VideoGames101
      @VideoGames101  Год назад +2

      Ha that's true. You can argue shells are more valuable than diamonds simply because of the relative level of danger which goes into harvesting them.

    It's always good to get to rock a chill class like pottery or Jaws from time to time! This, Ghost & Goblins, the original Mario, and Duck Hunt were some of the very first video games I ever played when my sis and I got an NES in the late 80's. Whew if I could show off that debugging trick to younger me and my parents, they'd be braggin about future me for days! Thank you for the fun and educational class as always!

    • @VideoGames101
      @VideoGames101  Год назад +3

      Wait til you hear Gary's boss beaters for pottery. I'd think starting with Ghosts and Goblins would either turn you off from video games completely or make you platforming master from a young age.
