I`v been in there. Took pictures of all the Fire Places in the old houses. 2008. I live in Greene N.Y. 13778. But have a house around Long lake. North Point Road.
Yeah, we did the same thing. I really waned to get it on video before there wasn't anything left to see. Wasn't too long ago all the houses were standing and you could walk through them all. I still want t find the grave yard though.
@barcodeboy13 some of the houses are still standing as of last summer. One house has been redone and if you have a flash light you can walk through that house. You have to walk through the woods to really see them as they have been covered by foliage. Also the blast furnace is there to view on the way to the ghost town. Fun place to explore.
@whitespruce26 Someone atleast maintaining one house and the blast furnace. The town is where rosevelt was when he found out the president had been shot. He was staying in the house that they fixed up. Few miles from there is where he found out he was president. Pretty cool stuff.
Great video! Thanks for posting.. How long ago was this filmed? ...when you say "5 years ago all houses were standing and you were able to go in them" - Do you mean that today there are no standing walls? Is there currently only remains of broken wood and bricks? I would love to visit this site, but only if there are still broken houses standing.
This is actually the town of Adirondack. The Town of Tahawus was relocated to Newcomb and the parts that were left were buried under the aggregate from the mine.
@SouthernYankee315 ts off of 28n in Newcomb. You would hit Rt. 30 then 28n then county highway 25. Its 2 left turns after that and i think there are signs pointing the rite direction. Its on google maps also. Some beautiful hikes start from this ghost town.Theodore roosevelt became president while hunting in Tahawus. Sorry replied with my fiance account as lizwozable.
Really? They stopped mining because of an impurity in the iron, It was titanium.....lol. I didnt think they could mine it agina because it was in the adirondack park. Hmmmmmm
Hmmm, Turned to stone? Are you talking about the grave stone of where the guy threw his gun holster down on the rock when him and his party were resting from trying to find a new water source for another blast furnace and the gun went off accidently instantly killing him on that rock? The grave stone errected by his children? Good story though.
Great video!

Oh cool! Most of the houses have fallen down now but you can see the blast furnace pretty good.
I climbed inside the blast furnace and looked up. Back before they started clearing out around it. Glad they are cleaning it up.
