    Duration for indoor or outdoor - Thick and dries amazingly well.

      I'm repainting my parents' brand new 3,000 sq ft house because my mom didn't like the color 🙄. It has very thick orange peel knockdown texture. I've basically given up on rollers for the walls at this point lol. I'm just doing rollers on the ceiling and using a flat edger brush on the entire walls lol. It has tiny bristles that fill the texture, whereas with the rollers, it would skip so much and also fill the crevices with globs of paint and ruin the finish of the texture.

    I'm curious about "treatments". If you have knock down texture you have to smooth it out first for wallpaper. You have to smooth it out for faux finishes. etc. You have to smooth it out for wall appliques. Maximizing value beyond basic kitchen and bath upgrades involves detail work and in some cases overcoming the "cheaper" decisions of prior owners/building periods.

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY

    Do I need to sand in-between coats on a already painted textured all? Planning to repaint house once I move in and do I need to use a primer before? From my research it's only necessary to prime going from a very bright/dark color to a lighter one.

    • @jameswendellmiller
      @jameswendellmiller Год назад

      U dont need a primer. Primer is just for very nasty stains and smells OR bare drywall and wood that will just keep soaking it up.

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  Год назад

      always sand. if you don't and there is any lint from the last job then when you sand between coats it could rub off. then you may need to do a small touch up and then let it dry before doing your final.

    • @rabidpandayt
      @rabidpandayt Год назад

      Water based paint is usually better to be used indoors on walls and is easier to clean up. Oil based paint is great to be used exterior and on metal as it tends to bond better and has a better wear and tear on them but requires mineral spirits to be cleaned up. The choice is personal but my choice is water based on walls.

    • @huuamai8151
      @huuamai8151 Год назад

      Yeah, describing the streaks would be helpful. If you rolled, maybe you left a line from too much pressure on one side or maybe you backrolled when the paint you already applied was a little dry.
      If you spray painted, maybe it's from an uneven coat.
      It could also be brown spots from water stains that need to be primed with a good oil-based primer like Kilz Original Primer (the one he uses.)

      See Jeff's previous videos, when you're roller-painting you should keep the cage corner pointed in the direction you're painting - for the whole wall, even under windows. The non cornered side of the cage has less pressure on it, and as you paint and it will naturally "feather out" your paint, and avoid most thick lines from your roller.

    With respect to straight lines, like you said, caulking only requires one coat of paint and some can be painted on wet. How I get a perfect straight line is to mask the edge of the wall, and on the inside seam of the tape, seal it with caulk, then paint over the caulk while it is still wet, and then pull off the tape while it is all still wet. The caulk stops the paint going under the tape, and when you pull the tape off, the wet caulk underneath the paint acts like a gasket that stops the paint running.

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY

    Can you use drywall primer on other areas where the drywall isn’t new? I am reaching some area but others we aren’t but want to avoid buying multiple primers if possible. Thanks!
