You should heat the motor up prior to starting. That being said. This is not how you break in this way. You should let run on the stand. For a couple tanks. And then run it on smooth ground not grass. Never letting it run out of fuel.
Make sure the slipper clutch is tight When breaking mine in and in the middle of tank 4 they disintegrate & the engine went super high revs. Traxxas sent me for free replacement parts, but be careful. Even the Tech on the phone said it happened to his new Tmaxx & Revo
@@grandmasteryoda8588 I've had two T-Maxx Classics two T-maxx 3.3's and a Revo, my experience with the 3.3 engine's has been very good. The 3.3's were easier to break in and tune then the 2.5's and they run great. I'm by no means an expert on nitro but I do love to run them.
@@Livlifetaistdeth thanks bro I am leaning towards buying a T maxx 3.3 I was gonna buy the Kyosho USA-1 but a lot of people said it’s the same as the foxx so I now am wanting a T maxx
@@grandmasteryoda8588 Anytime, if it helps, but it probably won't, I also have a Kyosho FW06. I have electric cars that'll do 100+mph but when that little Kyosho hits second gear it is an absolute riot! Sorry that probably doesn't help but Kyosho also makes great stuff. The real upside to a Traxxas is parts are everywhere. When I was learning I broke just about everything, wish that was a joke, but that's one of the reasons I ended up with two of the 2.5's and 3.3's haha. Good luck!
for the first 2 tanks i useually just let it idle on a block giving it some slight revs now and again, its so easy to get carried away when its on the ground and giving it full throttle

Is it pretty self explanatory the break in methods? And what about adjusting clutch and any other adjustments.? Can I do that myself or would I need to take it it for someone to tune it for me
Just do your research. There are proper ways to break in and improper. Do some searching there are videos with proper break in. As far as tuning, you can absolutely do it. All it requires is a flat head. You just need to learn which needle does what, and small SMALl increments
The only Traxxas brand R/C cars I have are electric. My friend has a Nitro Rustler that he converted to 3.3 instead of 2.5, and it makes me want the T-Maxx very much. The only bad thing of course is the break-in time. Other than that it is an awesome truck. (Plus the two-gear auto transmission is awesome.
I have three Tmaxx’s two are the 3.3 and one 2.5. If someone is looking to buy one I would definitely get the 3.3. They are a hundred bucks more but you get a better motor, transmission, servo, brakes, driveshafts, radio, longer chassis and wider better tires and handles better. If you’re on a budget the 2.5 is good but you get a lot more for the money. I would also recommend ditching the AA batteries on board and get a 2s lipo you can run all day and not worry about the AA batteries going dead. I would also stay away from aluminum parts unless it’s a shelf queen go with RPM parts. I run RPM bulk heads but stock a arms cause if I wreck that’s what I want to break first. Also people say the parts are interchangeable and not all are. The 3.3 transmission will bolt in a 2.5 chassis but you have to cut the front center driveshaft and grind away some of the chassis cause the driveshaft is to big around. The 2.5 transmission will bolt in the 3.3 chassis but the front center driveshaft is to short. Also the gearing ratio in the trans are different. The 3.3 has a taller second gear and you can’t run the 58t spur gear on a 2.5 trans unless you get a bigger clutch bell and if you’re running a 2.5 or 3.3 the gearing will be to tall. If you go with the 2.5 ditch the reverse if you can live with out it and do the 3.3 slipper clutch upgrade or better yet get a 3.3 and don’t do Traxxas break in watch Adam Drakes break in video.
Hello thanks for video you said you had to adjust your clutch because of slipping mine was fine until the 6th tank mid tank and then the engine revs but car is going slower than it should could that be my problem? I broke mine in the same way you just did but in a school parking lot. Any help is greatly appreciated thank you
after a few tanks I had to adjust the clutch. You can adjust when the 2nd gear kicks in.. or make it so 2nd gear never kicks in. It's a fine adjustment so give it a try
Awesome video. Just picked up the exact same one today. They didn’t and don’t carry traxxas fuel so they convinced me to get the vp racing Breakin blend and then a quart of vp racing 20/14 blend. Anyhow. Weather isn’t permitting to run it right now. Been down this road 17 years back and loved it when it ran but hated it when it didn’t. Maybe now I have a better understanding and will have better success. My question is, what tweaking did you do after you broke it in and which needles did you adjust on? I know there’s no set it and forget it. How nice that would be. But I will run towards the rich side just to be safe till I get it down. Anyhow any advice would be very helpful. Thanks.
Right? The 2.5 tmaxx was my first hobby grade nitro and it left such a bad taste in my mouth I almost left the hobby until I got the losi lst back in the day.
