On this edition of the ArsenalVision Podcast, Elliot is joined by Tim and Paul to discuss a few topics but most notably, whether Arsenal have an issue developing academy talent and finding a pathway for academy players into the first team. That part of the conversation covers some rumors that Chido Obi may be leaving the club, as well as discussing the recent history of academy players moving into the first team. There’s a bit on whether anyone should join the first team this season, and how those minutes should be allocated. Then the pod covers news that Benjamin Sesko is staying at RB Leipzig and whether that’s a big miss for Arsenal this summer. Finally, there’s a bit on ten Hag staying at United. All that and more on this edition of the ArsenalVision Podcast.

Reuell has been on the bench for months, adjudged to be a very good defender who can play across the back but Arteta preferred bringing on Cedric, a poor defender who was leaving.

Fabregas was naively shoehorned in and we sacrificed power to accommodate his skill. Parlour, Edu and Vieira all let go in 12 months.
We continuously got bullied as our physical power diminished and we fell dramatically as a trophy threat.

Naively shoehorned in?! He was an exceptional player. It's not as though as it was necessary to 'sacrifice power to accommodate his skill'. It was more a matter of failing to build around a supremely talented football with players of comparable quality.

That was the problem with Wenger at that time.
It was either skillful nimble players, or physical ones.
I don't know why he didn't try to mix them.
Like Arteta is doing now. Matching skillful nimble players with physical ones. Example: 2 CB's. One is physical and the other is skilful

I'm not sure if Erik ten Hag has brought this up recently, but Manchester United's season might have been entirely different if Gabriel Magalhães' arse hadn't been so sassy and correctly caught Alejandro Garnacho offside.
    Has he mentioned that?

I don’t get the point at 24:00. Even in the US, we were able to watch youth team highlights and some matches on Arsenal TV prior to 2010. And clubs have always had scouts watching other clubs’ youth teams. The main difference is that fans now have the ability to see more academy teams and youth players from elsewhere. So if anything the discourse around academy players has changed amongst fans but the actual process for the clubs hasn’t changed that much. Also we took advantage of other countries’ laws to steal youth players. Thats how we got Fabregas from Barca.

Emery in one season brought ESR and Saka through, but Arteta has had 5 years and hasn’t brought a single player through and somehow gets credited with “project youth”.

44:31 That's a bit trite and presumptuous. Fans don't necessarily want a colossal target man. I think people want an orthodox CF who can finish reliably and offer a different look... and you can't casually dismiss the idea of a Sesko as misguided fan fiction when the club itself obviously earmarked him as a desirable player. It's like guffawing at Mudryk and forgetting that Arsenal were willing to spend 90m on him...

Away from Hale End did a thoughtful review of our loan year. We have been shit at loans, protecting value and selling. Sure club realise it. Hopefully its good in a few years. Hutchinson didn't get guarantee obviously and Chelsea pocket 20 million. Ibe us nit getting a place kept for him in Byern first team ffs. We just haven't been good at decision making and negotiating so far.
Scouts been watching k7ds football since the 60s. Idea Man U didn't have scouts in London in nonsense. But obviously its on different level now.
Just need to put best people in place and trust them. Each decetc is a gamble but quality folk make more good guesses

The only problem with the academy is the fans expectation that every player that passes through its doors is going to be a world beater. The reality is that getting one youth team player per year through to the first team is probably above par.
Also the system (playing "age related" football) doesn't prepare players well for the progression into first team football. It was much better when the youngsters stopped playing "youth" football at U18 and then played reserve football against established pros who have been around the block. The demise of the reserve team is a big negative

@@DarrenTaylor-be5hf @DarrenTaylor-be5hf would you prefer he brings someone in and drops points? It says more about the standard of the academy players not being at the required level. And whilst he may not have given Saka his debut, it was Arteta who played him at wide right ahead of a 72mil Pepe. Under Emery he played left back. You can't have it both ways, fans want to win the league, but they would go crazy if he gave a couple of academy players games and we dropped points. Fans say "take the domestic cups seriously " if he put out a full strength side they're "give the academy players some minutes ". I agree there were occasions last season when minutes could be given to youngsters, when we had games in the bag in the CL and the dead rubber with PSV, also that run of games when we were scoring goals for fun, but ultimately the managers job is to win football matches, it isn't his job to play academy graduates for the sake of it. The reality is aside from Nwaneri there isn't really any stand out candidates and ultimately it's up to the player to dislodge the player in the team, they will only do that by showing they're good enough, obviously nobody is doing that right now.

      Genius!
Finally, 4 trophy less seasons on the bounce and after telling us 'qualifying for the UCL attracts world class players' and a 10% increase in ticket prices next season, the best him and Edu can do is probably sign

Its the managers job to inspire and nurture young talent. Ferguson was down watching the kids all the time. You think his interest wasn't a huge motivation?

  • @davidkeith9015

Herbert Chapman will always be remembered In the great history of Arsenal a great manager and legend I doubt Arteta will come anywhere near Herbert.
Obi has great potential and I don't think Arteta has any trust in the kids I bet we let Ethan go let's remember Saka and ESR and Saliba was down to Emery and why did Walters not get a game I think Arteta doesn't like the kids Fabregas could be like Ethan but not with Arteta.

    • @NakulKrishna
      @NakulKrishna 3 месяца назад

Saka was not down to Emery, they recruited horribly in Pepe and had to use a kid who was better than our then record signing. Saka’s development as a right winger has come under Arteta. The decisions to send Saliba on Loan repeatedly was also the current management decision that Saliba himself has accredited for his current quality. I remember when people last season were pissed we sold Flo who was supposedly much better than Eddie and he has scored only 4 goals in France. Arteta has a high threshold for the type of player he wants, just because they’re our youth doesn’t mean shit. The same people who complain about how we use our youth complain when we lose stupid games. Can’t have it both ways. You bet we’d let Ethan go away based on what? Each player is different and as far as I remember hes the youngest ever player who got time in the epl.
Stop over hyping average academy prospects, we just have to improve our loaning and then selling of these assets. Rather us be ruthless and win, than be the team that promotes the most from within and remain where we are. Just look at ESR and Saka, very similar potential when they came in, vastly different paths and development. Have you yourself watched Obi? He looks like he isn’t challenged at all and his development must’ve definitely stagnated. If Bayern are willing to overpay let them, Arteta requires a “hunger to play for the Arsenal” from the players he signs. Easy to praise managers of yesteryear but they’re not really comparable are they? What managers have to know and understand now is so much more vast and multifaceted and the competition and knowledge much fiercer, not taking anything away from anyone. Your understanding of this is quite immature and I’m afraid it isn’t quite as binary as “oh Arteta doesn’t like kids.”

    • @DarrenTaylor-be5hf

The fact is Arteta has zero trust in the players who he gave new contracts to and most of his signings so he has zero interest in the academy and if it wasn't for Unal Emery Saka would have probably been sold

In regards to Elliot's point about there not being many strikers he's excited about; remember Wenger's point about why there's less and less amazing strikers? How Latin America still produces some but Europe less, because of the "street" skills that the Latinos get and the more "Academy Product" a player is, the less likely (not impossible) they are to have that.
