Regine Velasquez herself has once said Lea has the perfect pitch while considered herself to be just of relative pitch.
“Perfect pitch means you can pluck an existing note out of the air and sing it in tune very accurately, while relative pitch means that a singer could hear an existing note and then use it as a reference point for every other note they sing.”
The conductor here is Lea's brother, Gerard, who is also Regine Velasquez's former Musical Director. He is world class and had always brought out both Regine and Lea's very best!

I'm not sure if my memory is correct, but this song was done while the character was on a balcony overlooking her people. That's why Lea kept looking away, as if she is imagining the multitude in front of her.

EVITA is my lolo favorite musical/play. Since he loved it, I tried to learn this song in an operatic way and sang it to him everyday cause this always makes him so happy and entertained. I used nicole scherzinger version. She is fantastic too. Now my lolo is in heaven and this song will always be our theme.
Evita is from grassroots but she hungered for change in the social system at a young age. She worked her way up and became a first lady. She was loved by all especially the grassroots. But she eventually died of Cancer. She made that speech to bid her farewell to Argentina. And the country mourned for her passing.

There's a movie Evita starring Madonna, a musical drama, where Madonna got a Best Actress nod at the Emmys or Golden Globe.
Lea Salonga sang this at her concert in 2014. She was 43 then. That is her brother, Gerard, at her back, conducting the orchestra.
Sorry but that was not in 2014. She was in her early 20s here. That happened in 1997 if I am not mistaken. After she did Mulan.

Actually, this was a movie with madonna. She played Evita /Eva Peron.
There was a movie indeed but the film adaptation was based on and inspired by the West End/Broadway musical, Evita.
This was a Broadway musical way before they decided to bring it on the “big screen” (movie), starring Madonna as Evita Peron.

Evita Peron was sick that time. His husband Juan Peron became their president because of her. Shes charming and people loved her so much. She's gone through difficult times during her younger days that's why people can relate to her. Watch the movie..a musical movie. Superb.

This performance is actually from one of Lea's concert in the Philippines, The Broadway Concert (June 2002). The musical conductor is Lea's younger brother. I think Lea did this concert after playing Eponine and Fantine, respectively, in Les Miserables.
Also, the musical "Evita" was also made into a movie in the mid-90's, starring Madonna as Eva Peron and Jonathan Pryce as Juan Peron.
If this is from 2002, then Lea is 31 years old here. This would have been after Eponine, but before Fantine. (She didn’t play Fantine until 2007, after she was already a mom).

Musicals are in the UK and in the US. In the US it is Broadway in New York while in the UK it is West End in London. And both those places have been homes to our Filipino stars Lea Salonga and Rachelle Ann Go.

Fun fact...The conductor here is Gerard Salonga, lea's Brother. Her is a graduate in Bachelor of Arts from Ateneo, and proceeded to study in Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where he graduated summa cum laude and received Berklee's Contemporary Writing and Production Achievement Award. Gerard worked briefly at Sony Pictures as an orchestrator and music copyist before returning to the Philippines in 1999. He is the musical director of ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.

Lea Salonga is OUR "Annie". She starred as the lead, as "Annie", on stage in that Play. Of course, produced and performed by Filipino Theater Artists here in the Phils. I think there's a video of her singing "Tomorrow". That is how young she started in theatre. Thanks and more power!

Eva was first lady. Juan Perone was her husband and the president of Argentina. However, she was the power behind the throne. When she died, she was given a state funeral. (Very unusual). She was dying of cancer and this was her farewell. That's why she sings , don't cry for me Argentina.

Lea is singing one of the most if not the most well known song from the musical Evita. It debuted on Broadway where Patti Lupone won her first Tony award. Eva Perón was as polarizing today as she was when she was the wife of the notoriously corrupt president Juan Perón. She was singing from the presidential balcony as an apology and farewell when she realized she was dying.
Madonna played Evita in a movie in 1996. I believe Lea performed this in a concert in 2002.

She loves arts that's why we have our cultural center, where mostly arts lovers show and performs. That's why we also have ballet dancer trained abroad and perform in our country to open beauty of those kind of arts. And her name is Lisa Macuja(did I got her name correct?)
