I watched this video to learn how to use melodyne a while ago and then stopped using melodyne for a while and then came back here to learn how to use melodyne again haha great video man!
Thanks a lot ! Just had Melodyne on a package with my last Cubase upgrade and didn't really know what to do with it... Now I see how much it will change my songs !
I was looking for a way to correct all pitches to 0 ct without doing it one by one, and you helped me find my answer! it was the "correct pitch macro" button! Thank you!
Subbed! Thank you so much for this!! i learned something new . I kind of had an aversion to Antares, because everyone seems to use it!!.. but this, is a game changer for me!! thank you for this great Tut! bless!!!
@@eddydamachinegun8232 glad it was helpful! I tune every vocal with Melodyne, print it, and then use auto tune as the first plugin on the insert chain to get things even tighter. Very common to use both plugs when vocal tuning
200th comment 🤙 just got melodyne the other day finally and I have to say, it is an absolutely phenomenal program, even works amazingly well with screams and aggressive vocals. Having a lot of fun with it!
I listened to this whole thing on x2 and I thought he was singing “me and you, down in from Utah” 😂 thanks for the quick overview! (I think I’m gonna get it!)
I haven't used it in about 2 years, but it seems to be a lot more simpler than what I remember. Unless it's the update? Either way, for some reason your video made it feel a lot easier to use this time round.
I discovered that the fastest and least destructive way is to use it in Logic is with selection based processing (SBP). This works for just about any 3rd party tuning plugin. I open melodyne (not ARA) in SBP and engage audio transfer button and just render in SBP. This bounces it in place but doesn't change the audio because I didn't make a change yet, but it does instantly add the audio into melodyne. Then I make my edit, sometimes I have to mute THEN solo the track because if I'm not listening to the preview version it plays both melodyne and not melodyne at the same time, then I hit render to new take. This gives me my tuned vocal plus my untuned vocal as takes in a take folder. What I like about this is that its working at the audio region level and not the track level so I don't have to bounce in place then bring it back to my main track and delete the bounced track.
So if I got this down correctly in laymen's terms: You transfer your selection into Melodyne You do your edit on the vocal You solo this track out completely dry and only leave melodyne on, export this as a WAV Import the melodyned WAV back in your session Re-activate your mix tracks and have the melodyned one in the mix so they don't mix up with the non melodyned one.. But reverting back is easy because you can go back to the original audio take that is still in the folder. Sounds about right? I thought this was the only way to do it right lol, never tried going the ARA route.
@@Imperatormusic It doesn't sound like you are using selection based processing in Logic. You don't have to do any exporting or importing back if you use selection based processing. I abbreviated it as SBP so it was easier to write. It's less complicated than it sounds.
@@lawinter1949 No, indeed - I'm on Pro Tools and haven't figured out which way better to do it than how I'm currently doing it. At least to not be too destructive. Not sure if I can use SBP in Pro Tools? On top of that I'll have to be upgrading to the assistant from the essential or I can forget about all the note-specific drift pitching and modulation.
@@Imperatormusic From what I have seen. you can load it in audio suite and its just as instant. That is not gonna matter soon though because the latest version of melodyne is supposed to fully integrate with protools like it does with Studio One. not sure if Protools as updated to the version that does that yet though.
Thanks for the awesome video. I can't find the tool bar that has the more precise tools. How do I get that to display? I'm using Melodyne 5 as part of pro tools, all up to date.
Around 3:22, I like the ability to adjust/correct the pitch as you hear it. I am a fairly good guitarist, but a bad singer. Can Melodyne 5 run as a standalone? Great video :-)
I feel vocalign 5 sometimes leaves a bit of artifacts in the “rendered” tracks. You can achieve the same thing in melodyne with the timing tools (at least in assistant5 or studio 5) but with less audible artifacts. (IME)
I always record the tuned track to a separate track then inactivate and hide the original recording. Because once you transfer to Melodyne, you can't make any more edits to the actual track (Automation, fades, everything)
Thanks a ton for this tutorial. I'm about to get this one (switching from Waves Tune). I like Waves but it does come with its... issues. For example, sometimes it'll bug out and you'll try to correct pitch on a note and for no reason it'll just make that note go totally out of wack and crazy, then you can't undo it. Super stupid, has caused me many adult tempter tantrums. It's cheap but if I can avoid that by spending 65 dollars more, I'll do it with a smile. Cheers & Happy New Years!
Amazing Tutorial! This is going to help so much with my weeknd songs I’m making! Please can you let me know which melondyne version this is? Essential? Progressional? Studio?
That Bluebird mic - did you use that to track? I actually perfer that mic over many other expensive mic's and since they stop making them - was thinking of snagging some up - I prefer it over the TLM 103 even lol
Thanks bro. I am interested to do minor tweaks on some of my pitches. May be modulation or vibrato a bit. Do you know if Melodyne essential can do all of the pitch editing stuff you showed here?
Don't forget, if you over-do Melodyne it becomes extremely noticeable, which can be very bad for the song. If it's a creative choice, then that's great. But if you don't want people to hear the re-tuning corrections, then you have to make the re-tuning more transparent and not too robotic. Red Hot Chili Peppers had this problem on their last two albums. You could hear Kiedis' melodyne all over those albums, and I don't think that was intentional.
Great demonstration! In order to do everything from this video (including aligning layered vocals), you need the most fancy tier of Melodyne, right? Melodyne Studio, not Melodyne Essential or whatnot?
Look... Personal question. What's happening in Bermuda?
I’m a bit late to reply, but I think some intimate sh*t going on there

Nice tutorial. I personally line up overdub vocals before running them through melodyne. It just goes for a way more natural full sound👍
This was exactly the tutorial I needed!
For anyone doing rap vocals use Melodyne and then put a tiny bit of auto tune on after. Works wonders!
This is a good tip - I usually use a combination of both plugs
