I don’t like wood mulch for garden beds more so for the trees and walkways I lay it on thick so weeds aren’t a problem. Garden beds would appreciate leaf mulch over chips. Paper mulch is cool too whatever I shred I will put as mulch it invites worms as well as they love paper and who doesn’t want worm castings? Also just good old cardboard laid out on the bed first then cut holes for whatever your planting. I was gonna mention one other thing but it has escaped me lol thanks for the tour!❤

I’m in Maine too! We just started our first garden this year. I’m from Massachusetts and my parents never had a garden! So this is very new to me! But I’m so excited, and I love watching your videos. Please post more. Such an inspiration!

@@ravenbrookfarmstead9284 oh that’s awesome! Your insight has been awesome, especially being in similar zones. We are in Wells specifically, we have a nice amount of land, and I’m trying to utilize it more.

Also in Maine 2nd summer in our home
I am so intimidated by creating a homestead but love the idea. we are on 4 acres. Watching to get inspired.

Nice! Yeah, I would say we are aspiring homesteaders. We're just adding year by year so that the growth feels a little more sustainable! Its a lot of work, but is very rewarding.

Hi! Another Mainer here. I moved to a house last year with an established black raspberry bush and I think the old canes will die off and not produce new fruit. Easier to find pruning info on raspberries vs black raspberries on YT for sure but I think those old canes can be pruned. Love your videos! I uploaded a garden one as well last week and immediately privated it 😂

Hi neighbor! I found that it was pretty easy to tell the old old canes from the the 1 year old canes when I pruned in early spring -- the old stuff was brown and the prunable stuff was like a reddish color. It worked like a charm! Why did you make it private? I'd love to see what you guys are doing! There are not enough Maine gardeners on youtube!

@@ravenbrookfarmstead9284 I chickened out! My camera work was not great and I was chased out of my veg garden by a horsefly 😂 I do agree though, that’s how I came across your channel- looking for Maine gardeners so maybe I’ll give it another go.

We are in a short growing season as well currently (and moving to Robbinston Maine next year), have you ever tried overwintering your peppers? Habaneros and a lot of peppers will take a while to start producing and only really grow well once it's 70 degrees+. We've had a lot of luck overwintering the peppers inside. They start producing as soon as it's warm instead of having to grow then start producing!

can you show how to prune the existing berries. We have a ton on our property as well.
