Great explanatory video. I'm now going to give you an example of real world charging [and sadly, this isn't pretty] and why things need to be universally standardised. Much earlier today, at work I was charging my VW ID.3. I charged it to 90%. It took 2 hours at 11kWh on our works Zappi chargers. Charging became complete [said my WeConnect app], and I went downstairs to disconnect the car. Only it wouldn't disconnect the cable. I pulled, I pushed, I tugged, I cajoled, Nothing. I locked and unlock the car. Nothing. I did it again, and suddenly the car didn't recognise the key anymore. I left the car and went back to work. On returning, the car was unresponsive to the key. I took apart the key and physically opened the car. All hell broke loose, alarms galore. The key had not been recognised. I went through the manual with alarms blaring. I sited the key and pressed the brake pedal. I had my car back. But I still didn't have my charging cable. I tried the manual cablerelease on the car. Nothing changed. This was hopeless. 46 mins before I was due to go home and I couldn't release my ID.3. I went back to work, but couldn't concentrate. I asked a maintenance worker if he could cycle the chargers, but there was one other car charging. Instead we looked at the Zappi and I unlocked the car for the 9 or 10th time. Something told me the charging cable could be released from the car, and on pulling it did. Something I'd done throughout the afternoon. The other end came meekly of the Zappi. The truth is, this is no way to sell EVs and make them stick. I think I've increased the doubt towards the veracity of EVs to take over from ICE, and I don't want that. There needs to be standardisation in charging format and chargers. Everywhere.
Ughhh, very frustrating alright! I haven't heard of that happening before. Hopefully you get some adequate explanation/assurances from VW on how this happened!
@@BestElectricVehicle Tbh, it's the third time I've had an issue with this Zappi charger, and it's not the charger's fault. It's my car. I've read that it has issues with some chargers. The ID.3 is a really good car, but it's not the finished article. I feel like I'm beta testing to some extent.
hello, I'm from Indonesia, I'm a sales engineer at PT. Mitra Teknik Elektrindo, to market Mennekes products, especially in the territory of Indonesia, there have been many projects using Mennekes products, I hope Mennekes can become a leader for industrial plug and socket products in Indonesia.
Hi I bought a simple Type 2 Mennekes plug to Scucko socket for my electric motorcycle which only has a computer power cable socket so 1kW AC needed. When the AC Type 2 stations has socket it fits in and works fine, but there are Type 2 EV charge stations with Type 2 cable instead of socket. In the cable end my Type 2 plug does not touch the pins, the plastic spacing is too long. Can I cot a centimeter from the plastic plug end just to fit both socket and cable Type 2 chargers?
it's puzzling why this channel doesn't have a bigger audience, content is spot on, voice/edit/sound is great but your I'm starting to think your appearance needs some work, that grubby t-shirt, hair or old fashion glasses won't beat the yt algorithm any day soon
I’m a huge Martyn Lee fan boy. He is a well respected journalist in the electric vehicle space and my ‘go to’ on all things EV. Everything about Martyn is perfectly Martyn but you’re not wrong. Martyn’s tees need a tweak.
Ha! Thanks for the comment Quilmore! Great to get those complements on the quality of the channel. I'll have to have a think about a shopping trip though, eh?!
