- In this video we install the Road Armor stealth fenders on our Jeep JLU @whiplashjlu. There were some lessons here the install was pretty straight forward. You’ll need a few specialty tools or a trip to the hardware store. We also learned something after the install. Watch to the end!
Great video budz ! Not looking into these flares but watched your video cause I like to learn and know about various products and the way you went about this was nicely done !!
i love mine...ive had them on for a couple of yrs...they look GREAT on your JL
That’s Awesome! Thank you very much!
I’m so picky when it comes to the fenders because I think most look ugly but Damnn I’m lovin this one!
Thanks! We love em! They’re awesome!
Bout to install mine this weekend I’m excited but nervous
Enjoy! They’re awesome
Yeah the front was easy compared to to the rear it’s because I also try to install since 1941 front and rear hooked road inner fender liner. Turn out good they look hard and get everyone’s attention for sure
Really appreciate you putting in the end bit regarding the lighting. I got a weirder problem, because my passenger side is running white just fine, but the driver side is running the dull amber color like you're experiencing. Sport S with the standard halogen. I've emailed Quake to see what they have to say. If it's a common issue, pretty disappointing that they wouldn't put out an updated PDF or instructions lol.
I would suggest de-pinning the green wire from the harness and see if that works. That way you don’t have to cut it. This way if it doesn’t work you can just re-insert the wire to the harness.
@@BlackFlagAdventure I’m wondering, . . I installed DV8 LED headlights on my halogen standard Mojave. I had to disconnect both batteries for 30 minutes to reset the computer, then both headlights worked. Following install the passenger side LED headlight came on and then went out. After reset, I have had no problems. They said it had to do with the programming for halogen rather than LED on the Jeep. Wondering if a reset would fix the fender issue after installing LED headlights?
Good info, thank you for sharing
My pleasure thanks for watching hope you stick around
I like the look !!!
Thanks!!!
Great video thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
2:10 did the install last night and left them on. I’m going to cut them down eventually but not off since I do need to use one of them for my fender liners
Outstanding thanks for that!
I have the same fenders and did not have to do a chop of the rear bumper. Just uninstalled the part that screws into the bumper. Great video and good information on the lights. I went through the same thing when I installed mine. I got a quick response just as you.✌🏽
Awesome thanks for the info! Hope you enjoy the fenders man we love em!
@@BlackFlagAdventure No problem man. I’ve had them since March. Wanting these fenders before I bought my Jeep lol. I love them
@@DocG1914 that’s so awesome man. We love ours too.
And you thought Road Armor just made get out of my way bumpers
Indeed! These have got to be my favorite fenders on the market for Jeep.
Great video !! Just order these fender flares this weekend .. excited to install mine soon!!
Let me know if the video helps with your install, and let me know how you like the fenders. Connect with me on Instagram so i can see them on your Rig!
@@BlackFlagAdventure yeah… waiting 1-2 more months for road armor to ship my flares 3-4 months turn around ..
@@Djhyper66 it took quite a while for my brother to get his for the Gladiator we’re building. Materials are a big concern lately for a lot of companies on the industry. Keep us posted! Best of luck to you.
I know on the gladiators with the Mini Tazer you can change the lighting setting from regular to LED, I wonder if you could just try that first so you don't have to cut anything.
I tried to do this using my taser JL mini but it didn’t work. Hope that helps. We ended up just depinning the harness so we didn’t have to actually cut the wires.
@@BlackFlagAdventure any chance you can clarify how to depin? I've got a different issue, drivers side drl doesn't come on except for a half second when plugged in. Hoping this resolves it as my Tazer didn't.
How have these held up?? Any rusting issues? Or other pros and cons you could share
Thanks
Too complicated for my lazy self. I am more of plug and play and use the tazer. Also no splash quards, not bueno. Thanks for the video.
I don’t know of many after market fenders that come with Splash guards. I got Artec inner fenders shipped and they work great with these fenders. Road Armor also sells their own inner fenders I just wanted something different .
Also, nothing says you can’t have a shop do the labor for you. Just a thought. Hope you enjoyed the video. Consider subscribing if you aren’t already! Thanks for watching!
I installed these on my girlfriends JT about 8 months ago. No issues until now. Im noticing that the brightness of the amber is pretty dim when you use the directionals. I wonder if depining the green wire would take care of the situation or not. Just noticed it tonight so tomorrow begins with resistance and voltage testing.
If you buy a tazer mini, you can tell the computer you have led lights and should correct itself.
It didn’t work when I tried it. But it’s been a while. There may have been an update that could correct it. It’s worth a shot at least. I recommend giving it a try.
For when you drilled into the body-did you take any precautions to avoid rusting? Wondering what could be applied to those drilled holes since jeeps like to rust
Yes, I used black rustoleum paint and a q-tip to apply it.
JLs are aluminum
Isn't the body Aluminum?
Thank you for the info/video... Once follow up question...do you recall about how much one front fender flare weighs?? I've been told they are approx 40 lbs per side...but that seems a little too heavy based on how you guys were handling them (not like a 40 lbs bag of water softener salt!). 😉
I can’t recall exact weight but they’re nowhere near 40 lbs. more like 5-10 lbs per corner off the top of my head but don’t make any bets it’s been a while
@@BlackFlagAdventure thank you ...
why is you jeep black outside but white inside ? did you do a wrap or what ?
Great video. Which Road Armor fenders are these. Are they stealth
Yes they are the stealth fenders
what if the bumper is factory steel can we keep it ?
I’m honestly not sure. If I were you I would look for a comparison between factory steel and stack factory rear bumper and look at how they’re mounted and dimensions.
How much did you invest? and the price its forma the 4 parts?
I think it was around 1600 for everything
I’m having trouble getting them Snug against the jeep did you have that issue?
Bro they look good. How much wider then factory flares if any??
Hey, dude! I happened to be wondering this myself and did some research. There is a Standard and a Wide variant of these fender flares. The Standard is listed to be about 3/4" narrower than the stock fender flares whereas the Wide version is 12" wide in the front and 8" wide in the back. Hope this helps!
So would you recommend cutting the
Green wire right away? Before installing them if you have the halogen lights? I replaced my headlights with led aftermarket lights
I would actually recommend depinning the wire from the wiring harness and taping it back maintaining all the hardware that way if there’s any problems in the future your warranty with quake LED is still intact but if you can avoid cutting it and just de-pin it from the harness and tape it back
What size tires are you running on that rig? I just got a Gladiator with 37 12.5 tires and am looking for wider fenders.
35x12.50/17 there’s plenty of room depending on your suspension. We have a gladiator running the same fenders with 43x15 Mickey Thompsons and it looks great. Check out @gmork_jt on Instagram if you want to see what that looks like. We have a rig rundown I’m finishing the edit on if you’re interested that will be posted soon.
Thank you, I will check into them.
Did you figure out how to have the fenders to be DRL? I did the green wire so it stays white but I would like them to stay on like my headlights (I taped my headlights in the cigarette lighter so they stay on during the day)
I dont think ive seen a solution for this. Let me know if you find something out. Would be really interesting.
I know some states are more stringent than others, and while I’m interested in this set, my only concern is the lack of an amber side marker to keep things street legal. I can’t see it in any pics, and was wondering if these had the markers or if going with another product may be better.
Thanks for the question. What state are you from? I’d like to look it up so I can make an educated recommendation for you.

@@VPhuoc79 okay let me reach out to a friend I have that’s a cop out there and see what he says. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
@@BlackFlagAdventure Much appreciated. I am sure I could have found the answers either by searching or asking folks in a Jeep FB group I'm a member of.
To be fair, I am sure there are many laws that exist, and yet we may be breaking them daily without knowing, regardless of where we live. As a car person, "stock" doesn't register.
😂🤣
Well this is what I’ve found out ref TXTRC 547.324 - 547.325: basically your turn signals have to be white or Amber up front (this fender has a white running light with an amber turn signal indicator) and with regard to reflectors I only read that you have to have red reflectors on the rear. Read full text below. Source material: statutes.capitol.texas.gov/docs/TN/htm/TN.547.htm
Sec. 547.324. TURN SIGNAL LAMPS REQUIRED. (B) from 100 to 350 feet when directly in front of lawful upper beams of headlamps if the vehicle was manufactured or assembled before January 1, 1972.
Just started installing mine today. Having fitment issues on the front fender. Holes do not line up properly. Did you encounter this? Also my light won't work at all. I don't have the led package. Was to tired and frustrated to mess with it at that point.
You have to depin or cut that one wire and from what I recall we didn’t run into fitment trouble.
Thanks for the reply. Update, got the lights working, the front passenger side fender went on fairly easy, front left way off. The bolts along the top all line up but the 2 lag bolts in the rear are at least 1/2" off.
That’s interesting and also kind of a pain. Have you tried reaching out to them for a solution? Hit me up on Instagram @whiplashjlu and dm me some pics I’ll see what I can come up with to help you out.
Latest update. I reached out to Road Armor today. They had me take some measurements and found out that the fender was not to spec. They will be sending me a replacement fender soon. Road Armor has amazing customer service!
@@barebonesdiving77 AWESOME!!! So happy to hear you got it all sorted out! Send me pictures on IG I’d love to see how they turn out!
This seemed a lot more complicated than I've seen others do. Maybe they skipped all the extra steps
Unfortunately sometimes steps get edited out of videos to try to keep them short but having done this a couple times now i can tell you it is a lot of work to create and edit these videos and its pretty hard to get it right.
How wide are the rear fenders compared to the old ones?
How did you get the blackout grille in painted black?
I bought a black Jeep
@@BlackFlagAdventure what trim is yours? I got a black Sahara
@@troy7776 Whiplash is a 2018 Sport-S
Back bumper looks unfinished now
True. But we do have plans to get a new rear bumper soon! Stay tuned!
Where is the "is it worth it"?
Hi thanks for your question. I'm currently editing another install video and we will soon shoot a final thoughts and possibly a brand battle if you're interested in that. So far its promising. It seems very robust and in our practical tests its performing beyond our expectations.
@@BlackFlagAdventure thanks
@@BlackFlagAdventure by the way, appreciate if you can answer my question of "does road armor have fender liner to compatible with adjustable Falcon shock, or should I do combination of road armor fender and for instance JCR off road fender liner"
Thanks in advance
In my experience the Falcon adjustable shocks are difficult to accommodate. I would suggest either going with the fender liners you want and being prepared to modify and adapt or I would aim for fender liners that advertise they fit the falcon adjustables and fit them around the fenders. That second option might be easier.
@@BlackFlagAdventure many thanks for quick response
5:05 really????? wow
really have to chop up your Jeep, why cant Road Armor make direct fit !!!
This is just what happens when we choose to modify vehicles. It’s a part of the passion that people don’t often talk about BUT there are TONS of options out there. I personally don’t mind having to make little modifications like this. It is a Jeep after all and we like to wheel it pretty hard so we’re not too hurt about it.
@@BlackFlagAdventure - You’re right there are tons of other options out there. Imo, having to cut or modify your bumper for fender fitment is a dealer breaker for me.
What is the difference in width compared to the stock fender?
I will have to find some stock ones to measure and I will get back to you. Thanks for the question.
