  • Victor Conte says that Jackie Joyner-Kersee tested positive for illegal drug use in advance of the 1988 Summer Olympics, but that it was covered up by the U.S. Olympic Committee. Joyner-Kersee went on to win two gold medals at the 1988 Summer Games. Conte also shares other alleged incidents of the U.S.O.C. sweeping many other positive drug tests under the rug and even coaching its athletes to circumvent the drug testing system.

    Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Flo Jo and Allyson Felix were among the athletes trained by the infamous Bobby "the chemist" Kersee who was suspected of doping his athletes with multiple drugs and masking agents.
    His latest athlete is Sydney McLaughlin who holds the World Record in 400 meters hurdles. The WR's by Flo Jo, JJK and McLaughlin may stay standing for decades to come.
    There must be a reason that McLaughlin keeps skipping all those Diamond League and World Championship events: she does not want to get caught. The US drug testers seem to be easier to bribe than those in other countries.
    If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If you see an athlete who breaks the long standing WR's of Soviet and East German doped athletes, you know that athletes were doping as well. Only a matter of time!

The sacrificial lambs are sent home and shamed by the very same authorities who allowed tests to be tampered with . @stonew1927 2 года назад +2

      @@Nii1978 Of course, all of this is just supposition. Looking from the outside. No one truly knows. But I disagree with your assessment about her physique. Even by today's standards she became quite muscular. But the issue isn't in comparison with other bodies over other eras. The issue is the transformation she experienced physically in such a short time, practically from one year to the next. I've seen her competing in early events and she just "bloomed" in time to peak for 1988. That, together with her jaw dropping times that have proven unattainable to just about every great athlete since, makes her doping highly likely. One must go on the preponderance of the evidence. Her early retirement the following year, the very year they were to institute much more regimented testing procedures, makes her whole story suspicious in my view. It doesn't help that she would die only 10 years later of seizure disorder. Such a healthy, athletic person succumbing in that way. It's possible she would have died anyway from the seizures, or maybe the PEDs exacerbated her condition and contributed to her early demise.... You are welcome to think whatever you want. Obviously its all conjecture, but given all the circumstancial evidence I am inclined to believe she used drugs, as disappointing as that is for me and others to conclude. Also gotta remember the context she was competing in, in the height of the era of PED usage. So many athletes from around the world trying to figure out how to get that extra edge and being deceitful about it, trying to outwit authorities. Many did. Some like Ben Johnson got caught.....

    And in a country where litigation and suing is the norm, and in fact expected when there has been defamation of character, JJK and her husband remain(ed) silent. Why? Because if it went to a court of law and witnesses were called to testify under oath, she'd be f*cked. It reminds me of back in 1989 when Darrell Robinson (RIP) accused Flo Jo & her camp of taking HGH. Dont forget this man trained under Bobby Kersee too. He claimed Kersee put him on a doping programme, and that the rest of Kersee's 'inner circle' were also on doping progammes. And what did Kersee & Flo Jo do? Nada. They called him mentally ill, but did not take him to court. For exactly the same reason JJK hasnt taken Conte to court.
    If fans think JJK was clean, they are extremely naive.

  • @1973stefanp
    @1973stefanp 6 лет назад +76

    Let's face it, JJK's surreal WR was set 30 years ago, and no woman has got anywhere near it, the next best is 259 points behind! It is in the same category as Koch's WR, as Kratochvilova's WR, or Lisovskaya's WR etc.etc. - all those WRs that were set in the 80s by doped athletes. At her peak during 86-92, she hardly competed on the circuit - in 1991 for example she did a 6.97 LJ in the heptathlon at the trials, then one other meet in July in Finland in 7.13....then low and behold comes out in Tokyo and wins LJ gold in 7.32. Same in 88 in terms of the LJ, she does the trials and one other meet, doesn't compete on the Grand Prix circuit, stays in the US then comes out and wins LJ gold in Seoul. This whole approach of virtually competing behind closed doors is not good. Flo Jo was no different too, with one or two meets on the circuit prior to Seoul and that's it. They were simply not making themselves available.The rumours as we know were that Flo Jo was basically told to retire. The IAAF and IOC could not face the other 100m gold medallist failing after Johnson, that would be a nightmare scenario. So even though she originally stated she wanted to try the 400m in 89, she had to go back on her statement and announce her retirement. Anyone who actually thinks Flo Jo and JJK were clean are extremely naïve.

Either she was clean, or she was protected by the entire U.S. (and World) Olympic Committees, because they suspected her of cheating but she tested clean every time, at the Olympics and World Championships. She died from a seizure, something congenital, which means she had it all her life. Too bad those who are deceased cannot defend themselves. Her coach (new coach, she had been training with Kersee, now was coached by her husband) emphasized single leg training along with squats and other closed chain exercises, along with diet changes. I could see the drug charges if the U.S. committees were covering for her, but she was also tested at the Olympics and World Championships. As I said before, the 10.49 100m she ran *may" have been wind assisted. But she also ran 10.61 which is pretty close to the 10.5 mark. I had heard somewhere she had seizures and/or lack of coordination during the Olympics, and that may have precipitated her retirement. A lot of people forget she had been eligible for 3 Olympics, but 1980 was boycotted so no U.S. athlete competed there. Very few athletes are competitive for 16 years, and she was no exception; she tried to mount a comeback but her achilles tendon gave her problems. Since no one has the "smoking gun" with respect to her drug use, I would say give her the benefit of the doubt, but that's just my opinion. I'm among those who want the truth, good or bad, but if she was tested at the time and was clean, either she was clean or someone was just that much smarter than everyone else. Personally, they should let them dope. Just make sure they're supervised by trained medical personnel, that they understand the health risks, and have signed waivers and consent forms that they accept the consequences of their choices. Otherwise they're just fighting a losing battle here.

    You can’t tell me with all the technology facilities nutrition, level of coaching etc that there isn’t a reason why athletes in this current era haven’t even been able to get close to flo jo’s record. Americans probably take pride in the fact that their juiced up runner beat the rest of the juiced up runners” but it’s simple impossible to argue that there wasn’t some sort of cover up to make sure she «never tested positive” cause you can’t tell me in the last two decades there’s been world records and Olympic records broken left and right in the sprinting events yet flo jo’s records remain untouched while no women has ever been able to touch them since.

    Most athletes are using. They start early in HS. These kids are getting bigger, faster and stronger than ever. It's simply crazy to think their all natural. DL/OL in the NFL running 4.6/4.5 or faster. Everyone in Track and field recording sub 10 in the 100m..We should just make it legal, and ensure it's done safely. Chances are the top in athlete in any sport is taking PEDS.

      Sounds good in theory but in practise it would cause problems. Athletes are some of the most intense, unbalanced people you could ever meet. If drugs become permitted, then the game becomes “who can take the most without becoming ill” or “who is willing to risk their health on an untested research product”? Althetes will take this chance, they are obsessed. Only a matter of time before we have a dead young person who’s had a bad transfusion or early onset cancers etc. The Federations can’t allow that
