-- Today, we're doing a review of yesterday's challenge. This involved creating a tablet and mobile layout based on an existing desktop design. Tomorrow, we'll introduce a more complex example for responsive design!
Let's get started!

Who is Gary Simon? Well, I'm a full stack developer with 2+ decades experience and I teach people how to design and code. I've created around 100+ courses for big brands like LinkedIn, Lynda.com, Pluralsight and Envato Network.
Now, I focus all of my time and energy on this channel and my website Designcourse.com.

Thanks a lot for reviewing my design. Let's keep up, everybody.
Sujoy bro got the opportunity to have his work reviewed twice, while I didn't get even one review, haha. I'm curious about how my design turned out, but no worries at all. It was a great review. Learning new thing everyday, thx!
5:26 regarding the automatic transitions it feels like a double edged sword to me. I'm worried about:
1) Some people might be in the middle of reading when suddenly the card changes too early.
2) I think according to WCAG looped animations without a possibility to stop them are considered inaccesible. This is probably not a big issue but still would make me opt for keeping it static and let the user decide when to switch cards.
Thanks for the review 😊
Love the way you give feedback, direct and detailed!
Thanks a lot. This is so helpful to make UI better.
Thanks for the review
Its nice to see but please consider all those who did well to give them a heart to there work its really motivating us work continue. I do well and i believe one day I will get shortlisted. Thank you sir ❤😊
Thanks for the review.
Such an awesome set.
i hope i wll follow this cool review soon, i still have college assignment to do
Gary Simon is a LEGEND!
Hi I am a beginner designer and was curious as to what counts as responsive design vs adaptive design. From my research responsive design is using one layout and making it responsive for all devices, so would this be considered more adaptive design?(designing for different layouts) thank you!
nice insights. i think i did pretty well, maybe i should've decreased the distance b/w the cards a bit more on tablet. Also what are your thoughts on, making the logo centered on the nav in tab/mobile breakpoints, and putting the menu and cart on left and right edges. Is that an acceptable change?
I personally liked it it was different. But the common pattern nowadays is having it to the right and I probably would have looked on the right for it first.
Worst thing as a developer to get a big design change for mobile and tablet😂
Okay why do my designs not get reviewed 😢 we go again!
If they're similar to another one I already reviewed, I don't review them as my feedback can apply to other designs submitted. I don't have much time, so I can't review dozens upon dozens
@@DesignCourse yes haha, I was just being overdramatic for fun. Thank you for the opportunity and your hard work. Learning a lot!
You should make sure your designs are accessible. I can tell some of these designs (including your improvements) dont make the right contrast ratio.
Which ones?
Which?
@@DesignCourse I am a bit baffled i need to tell you, Gary, which design elements don't meet the right contrast ratio. I will not bother going through all of them but here are two that really stand out:
- The lighter grey background for the 'cards' (which house the quotes) in comparison with the darker grey background. Visually impaired people will just see floating quotes without any clear boundaries. To make it clear, i am talking about the #212121 card background that is used on the #191919 darker grey background. Not all designs have this #191919 background.
- The chevrons you 'fixed' actually don't meet the contrast ratio compared to the background so some people won't see the chevrons. The colour (white) the initial design had actually does. I agree this stands out too much but you could choose a 'white' colour in between yours and his and still meet the right contrast ratio.
There are multiple others but i suggest installing a simple plugin to check for yourself ('colour contrast' works well). If you are interested Gary, i can give you some lessons. I don't even want any money for it since i feel education should be free for all. But if you do decide to teach people, please make sure to include all people in your designs and teach them properly. Did you know 16% of the world population experience significant disability? 27% actually have disability.
