The shoes I used for demonstration: Viviobarefoot Ra
I'm confused why you wouldn't install the flat piece on the inside and put the poke and that you have to clip on the outside?
I think I will try this. maybe with 2 hammers, one still inside the shoe and hammer from the outside
I successfully converted two pair.
Tbh this is actually an extremely frustrating process.
And the fact that he doesn’t even show himself hammering? This is where a lot of the mistakes will happen. I’ve been through two sets of rivets now because after I’ve placed the little ring exactly where I want it (not too tight, not too loose),clipped the excess, and then go to hammer it down, the whole thing gets tighter! Like it cinches the rivet up into the sole of the shoe! If you angle the hammer like he says to do at the end, it makes it so much worse!
Awesome video I just ordered my earth runners
Hope you enjoy it!
@@RewildBeFree thanks!! I’m thinking about adding more copper to it maybe it will ground me better lol
This is the coolest. I've been wanting this product to exist for a while and I'm glad I found it! When I first found vivos I assumed they were grounded shoes already haha. Going to do this with my shoes.
How did it go?
@RewildBeFree LOL I never finished getting the rivet smooth, it pokes my foot. Gotta clip it lower again. I just wear my earth runners everywhere 😆
@@RewildBeFreeI‘d love to get finished shoes with the soles you use with your sandals + conducting cushioned insoles.
We have our Tabi Shoes at EarthRunners.com where you can also find our DIY Shoe Sync Kit that let's you turn any barefoot sole(1/2" or less) into a grounding shoe, but we do not manufacture that as a completed shoe.@@muaythai193
nice video!
Thank you
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for tuning in!
Please do a new video showing how to apply on those thick foam sandals that are so comfortable (Oofos, My Pillow, Hokas…)
It would be a good idea to post the website in the description for ordering
Nice! Will definitely pick up this Kit soon.
Question: Instead of using a hammer to finish and smooth out any rough rivet edges, why not just get an appropriate file in there and slowly file them down?
One other thought, I know of at least one company (won't mention their name unless you say it's ok) who actually sells hemp insoles. What are your thoughts on using your 2.0 system the same way but instead of the rivet going through both shoe and insole, only having your system go through the shoe while using something like the hemp insoles that would still provide conductivity? That make sense? That way, one would still have additional comfort of having the hemp insoles coming between ones foot and the rivet. Thoughts?
Getting a file into the shoe is nearly impossible. The only other consideration is a dremel but not many people have access to one. The hammer works great--black smith style.!
I don't think you want anything thicker than a sock between the rivet and your foot our you will start to loose significant connection. There isn't any discomort from the rivet so I dont see the point in this.
Thanks for the reply!
@@RewildBeFree Also, hammering the rivet down will create a cap inside the shoe to keep the rivet from falling out? I have all the tools here. I just need the copper rivets to do 2-3 pairs of shoes. I can also apply some copper conductive tape to acquire a LARGER conduction area.
Hi! Great video and product here. Is it possible to do this for vibram five finger shoes? The thickness of my pair is about 4.5 mm.
Doesn't the insole insulate the revit from your foot?
Great video! Definitely am considering buying a set. And if you don't mind me asking what pair of vivo shoes are those? They look really nice!

Which shoes are these? I like them
What about shoe inserts? Just hammer right through them? Do they make conductive shoe inserts?
Perfectly explained. Love it. BUT I guess that , wearing these in town, is useless most of the time because pavements, asphalt and inside the buildings, wooden floors are not conductive. Am I right ?
Dirt, grass, wood chips (not decks) and concrete like sidewalks are conductive. No blacktop or pavement.
Your videos are very helpful. Have gained a lot of insight. Thks. Have a question though.
Why is it that its always copper that is used for earthing? Could not aluminum be used instead? From where I am, copper rivets are hard to find, and aluminum rivets are freely available, and in different sizes. Could not aluminum or some other conductive metal be used?
Thks.
It has to do with the conductivity of the metal. According to a quick search, aluminum is only 61% as conductive as copper. So it'll work, but not as effectively.
Any chance flat skater shoes such as converse allstars could work? Does it really have to be minimalist shoes?
As long as it's 1/2 inch or thinner it will work!
We can use silver socks!
I wish I could do this with my Clark’s flip flops and sketchers sandals. One day I will buy a new pair of shoes and when I do, it will be something with an oiled leather soft sole 😃
Nice!! The DIY kit works on any thin soles shoes, like 1/2" thick sole. Leather-soled shoes would also be great for earthing 🙌
Angela Creech How did you cover the metal inside your flip flops? Is it in contact with your feet?
@@alexandraleiva477 I didn’t do it on my flip flops. I haven’t tried it on any of my shoes. I was saying I wish I could.
@@Berrith Ohh I see. Yes exactly! I want to ground mine too!!
@@RewildBeFree how does one order a kit? do you have a website?
If my waterproof shoes become grounded with this method, would I use my waterproof shoe?
What about adding a rivet on the heel area? More points of contact the better right?
The K1 point was chosen because it is the most effective (and conveniently also the most comfortable) place for grounding. You can add more rivets if you desire, though the heel may not be a comfortable place to be standing on a rivet.
Hello! great video.I have a pair of vivo barefoot and i want to make this modification but unfortunately my insole is rubber. Do you have any advice? Do you advise me to drill the insole or use conductive soles? Do you know if there are conductive soles? Thank you!
Vivo shoes are generally minimal enough to use the tools that come with the DIY kit. You need a hammer, but the tool that comes with the DIY kit will punch through the rubber. The shoes in this video are Vivobarefoot with rubber soles.
@@RewildBeFree Thanks for the reply! I mean the inner sole is rubber! how can I do? do I make the hole in that too? making the hole in that too, then I will no longer be able to remove it. Thanks!
Any advice for adding this to work boots? I wonder if the steel toe can be incorperated?
Work boots are not meant to earthed, they're meant to be electrically instated at a worksite for safety.
can you do this to hiking boots that have those extra 3d lines for gripping the ground?
You can transform their existing thin soled shoes (½” thick or less) into conductive footwear.
Does anyone have experience with walking on a wet surface after this? Will the shoe leak?
Don't wear them on wet surfaces especially when there is rain and lightning, when grounded u will be easy target for lightning
@@X-zk9vm good point hahaha
Hi where can I get this kit? Is it still available? Thanku Xx
Can you put the insoles on it and it work? Or do you have a longer rivet ?
Our current earthing DIY kit works with thin soled shoes (½” thick or less) but we're working on developing new grounding plugs that will work on slightly thicker shoes.
Will it ground if I wear a sock? cotton or synthetic one for example.
Yes once your feet begin to perspire (even a little bit, after about 10 mins or so) the conductivity will travel through the moisture to ground you.
I hope you can answer my questions by chance! Thank you in advance! 1.What do you do if you are somewhere out in the mountains and the weather turns bad with quite a few lightning bolts? I guess we should reduce our conductivity in such cases..but how,if I don´t want to always carry an extra pair of more isolating boots? 2. How do you take out the rivets if necessary (e.g.worn down or set too deep, etc)? Thanx!
Lightning: If the forecast reports any likelihood of lightning, we do not recommend heading into the wilderness, nor do we recommend wearing your Earth Runners.
Crouch down into a tight ball, as low to the ground as possible. Assume the lightning position: Squat or sit, ball up, feet together, wrap arms around legs.
If you have any gear with you (like a backpack, sleeping pad, etc.) use this as an additional insulator between you and the Earth to assume the lightning position. If not, balance your weight on your heels so that the copper ground plug is not touching the Earth, which will prevent current from passing through the sandals.
Rivet: A good pair of clippers could cut the rivets out; you'd be left with a small hole in the sole you would either need to patch up or fill with a new rivet.
when you are in the mountains ect.. carry some rubber stickies to put over them
Wow very nice!!!!
Thank you! 😊
Very good idea, thank you! I would like to ask you two questions:
1.What do you do if you are somewhere out in the mountains and the weather turns bad with quite a few lightning bolts? I guess we should reduce our conductivity in such cases..but how,if I don´t want to always carry an extra pair of more isolating boots?
2. How do you take out the rivets if necessary (e.g.worn down or set too deep, etc)? Thanx!
I guess I would carry a set of thick insoles. Just slip them in and you should be ungrounded.
1. We don't recommend grounding with lightening in the forecast. If you did happen to get stuck with nowhere insulating to shelter you (a building, vehicle, etc) then you'd want to keep your weight off of the grounded plug part. The chances of this situation coming about are extremely low.
2. Clippers should work to cut it off.
What are the chances of being struck by lightning? It's not even worth considering, but I'm sure many zombies will forego earthing bc of that.
@@mr.blackhawk142
If you are in the Rockies, the chances are very high.

Live life fear-FULL every day. Then, amplify. … and, someday, your body will die to release your soul-matrix imprints.
Hello - What size rivets are you using? Thanks.
Roughly 1cm
I am not using rivets. I go barefoot most times. But I must come up with an alternative with Colorado winter approaching
@@RewildBeFree So it won't work for thicker shoe sole's eh? I am looking for something that will work with my winter shoes as we have long winters here and less opportunity to ground bare feet.
@@AbhayMishra-md8sqso I've been looking into earthing sheets/ blankets.. yeah, they are a thing! Apparently they plug in somehow and you can ground yourself all night while you sleep which in your case may be a good alternative since it's as cold as it is where you are and you may not be able to find a way to Earth yourself through your footwear. Good luck!
I got to the point where I need to cut off the rivet with wire cutters, and my wire cutters are not cutting through the rivet. I don’t have cutters like yours, just regular size wire cutters because I’m working on a sandal, not in a shoe. Not sure how to proceed except a trip to the hardware store for sharper wire cutters? Or maybe my hands aren’t strong enough? I didn’t think copper was that hard of a metal.
Yes, you might need a different tool. Our DIY Kit comes with everything you need, including the long neck wire cutters
I got some long handle wire cutters at my local hardware store and was able to cut the rivets. But now I’m having a hard time getting the rivets hammered down enough to be comfortable to wear my sandals. At first I thought they were okay, but every so often they poke me in the sole of my foot in a painful way. I guess maybe just keep tapping with the hammer... though I have tapped and tapped and hammered quite a bit already.
It’s possible I didn’t get the rivets cut down quite far enough, but I was definitely doing my best to cut it right at the washer.
nice just wondering do sidewalks conduct ?
If made of concrete. Not pavement.
im trying to do this with salomon speed cross and its impossible, think ill need a drill
What is the sole depth? 1/2" or less is needed to make them compatible with our grounding plugs.
What size are these rivets?
They are a little under 1cm
Will the sole be waterproof?
With proper & tight installation, yes they hold up in wet conditions.
How do I aquire this kit? Can;t find a clue.
EarthRunners.com under our Shop - Earthing Shoes DIY Kit.
Why not put
Head of rivet inside shoe and washer outside
This way is very secure. It is also kind of impractical to hammer from the sole, since you can't get a good hard surface to hammer on when the shoe is upside down.
What am I not getting about the lightening/weather issue that Kees coming up? I thought if you were grounded it protected you from lightening. Help 😢
Why is this an issue for you? Look up the top ten causes of death for people in your country and worry about those.
@@-whackd emotional much? Wanted to learn about grounding not death. Comprehension is essential. Carry on champ.
Can't we just smash (flatten) the rivet without the washer ? I have only rivets....
The washer will help hold the rivet in place
@@RewildBeFree i thought it can be smashed easily but no....it bends. I finally done it). Although after the pliers there was a sharp edge and I had to work a little with a file.
cette installation est possible pour n'importe quel type de chaussures ?

Yes! A cruelty-free wool blend.
Does it have to be copper or any metal will do??
Copper is ideal

Can anyone from the Pacific Northwest confirm these will not leak from the wet ground every day?
Of course they will leak

We love to hear it.
Why not use the grounding shoes you were born with?
Absolutely! Barefoot is best but there are times in life where either 1. shoes are required, or 2. you need protection underfoot. These are the situations where barefoot shoes shine.
vivo barefoot es very expensive
I thought the vivobarefoot brand was already grounded. I guess not.
Are you guys still selling this?
Yep! www.earthrunners.com/products/earthing-shoe-diy-kit
lol.. my foot does not even touch the ground on that marked location :D :D
Sounds like you'd need to make an adjustment to the location to find a spot that works for you.
I don't understand why wouldn't he just put it in the other way around, that way it's way easier to sand off the rivet at the end it being on the outside of the show, less to no discomfort then right?
This is how it is best conductive. The plug is flush on the inside of the sole, and reaches the earth through the other side.
doesn't it need to be conductive on both sides for it to work? and if one side is more conductive than the other then doesn't that mean it doesn't matter which side is up or down? I'm confused
Each rivet is conductive all the way through. Hammering through the sole, downward, is the best way to install the rivet without damaging the sole and keeping it flush with the foot inside the shoe.@@Iamam313
@@RewildBeFreeGot it, thanks!
...and one day, lightning struck! LOL...All kidding aside, this looks decent.
If there is any chance of lightning in the forecast, you wouldn't want to wear earthing shoes, just as you wouldn't want to go barefoot! 🤪 Thanks for checking it out!
Why doesn't he just take out the laces to open up the shoe so we can see better!
I suggest you takeoff the shoelaces so you could work more comfortably!
These vivo's are pretty roomy, but with most shoes, you're right it's best take the laces off.
Why not just get a leather soul shoe instead?
You could do that, they're not practical in all applications though.
@@RewildBeFree Which do you think is better for grounding with the earth.
1. a leather sole or
2. a copper pin
Also to be grounded do you have to be on natural surfaces, or is asphalt and concrete also grounding. Any idea?
Not everyone can afford 90 to 200 dollar shoes.
Makes no sense, not to put the smooth side inside the shoe and leave the cut side towards the ground.
For this design this is best, but check out our new iON SYNC Earthing shoe kits here: They do just that!www.earthrunners.com/products/ion-sync-plugs-for-earthing-shoes
Grounding YES but putting a rivet in your shoe to walk on? Totally Insane! I know you think this is a great idea but I see it as a really bad idea and a waste of a good pair of shoes.
Me and many other users have logged thousands of all terrain miles with a grounding rivet through the sole, in this fleshy Kidney 1 acupuncture point, who would argue otherwise. It goes nearly undetected in this medium impact zone of the foot while still establishing an effective ground.
The shoe requiments, mentioned in the video, that prevent any issues of discomfort from the rivet> ruclips.net/video/exMjdfd2AYk/видео.html
"Your shoes must have less than a 1/2" thick dense sole."
Why not make this whole process simple? Why not take aluminun (or copper) tape like what's used in AC duct work, take a cheap pair of swim shoes from Walmart, run a strip or 2 of the tape face down along the entire inside length of the shoe, up and out of the back of the heal then underneath the shoe? Of coure over time the exterior of the tape may need replacing, or covered with another layer of the tape but BIG DEAL!...RIGHT?
It rolls, disintegrates, and loses ground fast
I got a volt meter and a sock that say your wrong lol
What are you testing as your grounded conductor under foot?
Belief is crucial. It's not true if you don't believe it. Kevy. Not for everyone.
I'm having a tough time keeping a straight face... How many of these "believers" are also flat Earthers?
@@LukeA1223 you believe in CONVID and think bandana's are going to stop tiny particles lmao
