@1:30 insane how he can downshift that quickly. I can't heel/toe that quick on light plastic pedals sitting in at my desk, let alone while getting thrown around by an 80s f1 car
1492cc V6, up to 5.5bar/~80psi, 250 to 300hp before boost, up to 1350hp on boost. so....no power no power no power ALL OF THE POWER. the skill involved in driving those things will never be repeated. R.I.P Senna
it wasn't only about the power of the old turbocharged engines (which don't forget, they broke down a lot), these cars also lacked aerodynamic efficiency and of course, safety. Yes, they were much difficult to drive but thankfully, today no drivers are getting killed in the cars. It's enough for me
Ferariiman That is what makes these new cars SOO awesome to me. I loved these old turbo and I wished they would return someday and they have! But now they have all the modern aero upgrades(though I wish they would increase the aero again, it would create some even more intense racing than we are already seeing) with 160bhp boost and virtually no turbo lag whatsoever.
***** We really do live in a hell of a time for the sport, technically speaking. I just love ERS and everything about it. When I learned about KERS for the first time it just blew my mind, now its even better AND with turbos!
***** As much as I love downforce, it's the main problem with Formula 1 and the lack of overtaking that isn't assisted by DRS. You can't get up close behind a car anymore due to the aero understeer that's created because the cars rely so much on air flow over the car, when you're close to another car and battling it creates a ton of turbulence. What they need is more MECHANICAL grip, aka wider tires...and a touch less downforce.
look at that turbo gauge just flying up outta nowhere every time he gets on the gas, serious talent and skill to control a car so light and with so much power
Omega Mounitron In what way? That there are more safety measures taken so that more people can survive? That the driver has to do more than drivers did before? That the sport is actually progressing more than ever? How is it shit in any way?
Omega Mounitron Today's drivers have just as much of a difficult job but you just don't feel it. Cameras indeed have a big effect. The drivers have an even bigger one. They weren't half as fit as an F1 driver nowadays. Also saying the cars look shit today is completely wrong. They look amazing now, without the Halo of course.
Omega Mounitron There's a difference between opinion and facts. I very much know that whatever I will say to you will not move you simply because you don't want to accept change, and that's why I'm not putting in the effort to prove you wrong about your opinions.
***** and they have ERS which adds a whole new sound in itself. The turbo spins WAY faster with it. The turbo lag on these must have been horrendous when you compare it with the new turbos.
gas taber I'd say that I wish they would return but the new turbos are pretty cool in this regard. If you look at the rear of the cars with a thermal camera there is basically a big ass torch in the back, looks so cool.
This guy was probably the richest richkid racing driver of all time - he came into F1 with almost as much dough as Senna and Schumacher made IN their F1 careers - seriously loaded. Not completely talentless though as shown here - he wasnt too shabby
On-board, the current F1 cars don't sound too different (except for the downshifts, which are more aggressive on the 80s cars thanks to full-manual gearboxes). Once you hear them from the outside, though, the current cars sound so sterile. They don't have the same grunt that the old turbo V6 engines had.
You can also tell that this is a race because his boost goes up to just around 4 bar, making him use a large number of gears. At full boost (over 5 bar, although the dial ended at 5), it is best to use just 2 or 3 gears, depending on track layout. For example, in my Assetto Corsa Silverstone GP World Record, I stay in top gear for 39 consecutive seconds (0:45 - 1:24 video time) and only use 3 gears in total. ruclips.net/video/pILCcpWNbrA/видео.html
I watched a couple of your videos and I have to say, you're really talented. I think you should try F1 Esports/League racing. You might give Jarno Opmeer a run for his money.
Maybe it's something to do with the camera, but these cars look fairly subtle in terms of speed despite their big numbers (1000+ horsepower in quali trim, a few hundred less on race day) as opposed to the early 2000's cars where you look at an onboard and the speed is made so obvious.
In the video it only had somewhere between 700-800 hp or there about. It was only in quali trim (with two different turbos and a different gearbox) they had over 1000 hp.
I think F1 shouldn’t have been automated so much, you can literally see how he has to fight the car in this video whereas compared to modern F1 effortless.
They need to have more vintage f1 racing in today's world. I know the current cars are quicker and state of the art but to me they are a less entertaining experience. They dont look or sound any where near as good as their 70s-80s predecessors. An era where a great variety of chassis and powerplants filled the grid.
The cars didn't have a speed limiter. What you're hearing is the cars hitting the rev limiter in top gear as the engineers didn't focus on straight line speed for some tracks so the gearing was slightly short.
because its uncapped HP, and it's fucking difficult to drive, and it looks fantastic. people complain today about the sound because everything else is also not exciting- the sound of the v10 was the last exciting thing about F1 and then they ruined that too

That’s why they ran out of fuel so much back then. Because their balls had so much weight.
