For this figure I think I used a flat white acrylic hobby paint for models by Tamiya. I just use a fine brush and water it down a little bit so it's not too thick in a mixing tray. I also make sure to remove excess by dabbing the brush on a paper towel so the brush is a little bit dryer and won't run all over everything.
LOVE your collection, especially that Blue lady in the right! Thanks for sharing this!! I really want to get that Batman! I'll just make my own out of paper. lol
@kairus1 Yeah, I pretty much use acrylic based paints and Tamiya is my choice at the moment. I used a flat white FYI. I thinned it down a bit and touched the highlighted areas as the original had this nasty black spray right in the middle of his face. I think they were all like that, so it really messed up a decent sculpt underneath!
@dinolast Yes, you'll be fine with the Batman, but from what I'm hearing, folks are less inclined to pick up the Joker. It didn't help that they put this weird light black spray over his face right in the center... It might not bother most people, but I like seeing my Joker with a lighter face! You might be able to see what I'm talking about in other reviews or if you get the chance to see these for yourself in person. But I'm still happy with these being my first ever Play Arts figures.
Thanks for the review. I pre-ordered from SideShow when first announced and found out this week that they can not fill the Batman orders. I am number 10 on the wait list. Joker still available on my pre-order. Lucked out with my local store having one ordered; due next week. he said it's mine. I won't celebrate until it's in my hands though!
Yes, I used a flat acrylic paint as opposed to a glossy paint. Since there was lots of black, I lightly went over the main parts of the face leaving the cracks between the features in black to bring out more detail and expression. I also left a few areas in a grey tone just to give it some variations.
The big Joker is a boot leg I got on ebay by BBK. Search under 1/6 Clown figure. He goes for about $70-$85. I've customized it a bit and plan to switch out the head for a better one later on.
I've already placed my order for the Batman, your review definitely helped me make the decision! The thing with the gray on Joker's face seems to be quite prevalent, some other sites have mentioned that the paint looks sloppy as well. I'm not sure why they didn't just paint it full white to start with, he does wear makeup after all.
Thanks for the kind words, my friend! I wish I didn't have to repaint the Joker, but the way he came was terrible in my opinion. It looked like they just sprayed some black paint to the middle of his face! If you had to get one of the two, definitely get the Batman as they are kind of pricey!
@DarkTiger84xx Yeah, these figures are great! Still a bit on the pricey side, but much cheaper than most 1/6 scale figures that I've been buying up recently! I always liked what Play Arts have been doing, but the price was always a bit too much for me. They're pretty good quality and I love how these turned out, so I made an exception with these!
@DarthGrayskull I know, it's gonna be so funny seeing how many Docs are gonna go up for sale so that they can get their hands on him! With you running the show, I know this will be THE figure by RM to get this year! I'm itching so bad for a new custom!
Sorry, they didn't come with stands, only a few accessories. Batman had a batarang and extra cape piece and Joker had a gun and chattering teeth. I think they both had some extra hands too.
@70humbler Yeah, the price point is still a bit on the high side, but I guess after picking up so many 1/6 figures lately I didn't think much about it. But now that I am, it was kinda pricey for an action figure. These are my first Play Arts figures, so I'll not let it bother me too much. I'm anxious to get the Joker head sculpt too so that I can finish this thing! As for the HT Arkham Batman, definitely! Sideshow, well, we'll have to see if that even happens since HT made their announcement!
@nobleteamspartan073 No, unfortunately I don't have Harley Quinn yet as she is not yet available. I think she will be released in a few more months, but I do have her on pre-order.
I'm not sure about those figures you mentioned, but if they are the Mattel or DC Direct figures, then these are taller. They stand at about 9" tall to give you an idea.
@ansol2006 For action figures, they are on the pricey side, but a lot cheaper than most 1/6 figures available these days! These are my first Play Arts figures as I always thought they were cool, but a bit pricey. I made an exception with these figures as I love this game and the characters ever since seeing them at last year's SDCC! As for the Kotobukiya statues you asked about, I don't really know... Have you checked Frank & Sons? If i see them somewhere, I'll let you know!
Sorry, but I just have so many other things that I would rather do a review on and I have so little time, so it's hard for me to just do ANY video review! I think there are some better reviews out there anyways!
they look really nice! what kind of acrylic paint did u use? on the jokers face. did u put a little on the highlite areas? man im gona run and get these two right now lol. did u use tamiya paints?
@GoliathAngelus I've finished the first game and loved it! I haven't played a game to the end in years, so finishing and even just playing a game for me these days is a big deal as I don't have much spare time anymore. I have the 2nd game but have only played it a little bit. I'll wait for a chance to sit down and play with it for a few days again! :-)
@marcarsenal1 Yeah, they're cool, and I actually like the size. We'll get our share of larger figures when Hot Toys releases their version and possibly another version by Sideshow if they still decide to do and 1/6 scale version as well.
Yeah, I know the paint was meant to represent some kind of shading or dirty look, but the way it was applied was ugly in my opinion. At least on mine, it looked like the just sprayed directly in the center of his face, so it was lighter all around like someone threw mud right in the center or something. Besides, I really like my Joker with a lighter face anyways, so I didn't mind repainting it to my liking! :-)
Hi Emarae! I recently ordered the flat acrylic white paint for models by tamiya for my Joker figure off ebay and was wondering...what do I do to make it look as good as yours cause yours looks really great looking! For example..leaving all the wrinkles on the face.
Cool..! Flat acrylic is what you want, so good job there. Now if yours looked the way mine WAS, then it should be pretty dark. This makes for a great bottom layer base and you simply want to lightly paint in the more raised areas such as the forehead, cheeks, chin, etc. Make sure the paint is not too wet and thick and it's almost like dry brushing as you want to leave the dark areas in the wrinkle crevices the way they are. If the paint is too wet, it may run into those crevices which you don't want to do. You can pause my vid as a reference, but it's all a matter of taste in the end. Just take your time and work in layers. If you think some areas could be lighter, go back and touch those up. The idea is darker building up to lighter in the more pronounced areas as I mentioned earlier.
Batman Arkham Play Arts Kai Yes, keep it light and dry and try to avoid letting the paint run into the cracks/ details. Mine had a lot of dark spray and the skin was a grayish color, so I just slowly added the white in spots over the raised areas. It might be helpful to dab the brush on some paper or palette to remove the excess.
Batman Arkham Play Arts Kai Great! I hope it turned out the way you like it! It's annoying having to touch up our figures sometimes, but it's also fun to see the results when completed! :) I'll check your vid out!
@emarae Wow you have played the game to the end. I am playing it too and its my first Xbox360 game that i have picket up but i am a bit stuck on the level with Killer Crock and lets say, he is very irritating for me at the moment so i stop playing this game for a while. I saw some reviews about Arkham city and this game also sure is a must have !!
They are cool but expensive! Btw do u know anybody trying to sell their kotobukiya danger room session psylocke and wolverine for a reasonable price? I'm in love with this series from koto... Thanks!
When I stared the game for the first time (when I dowlnload it) , My father ask Me ''hey is this is G.Clooney?'' and I say , what the fuck ,this is the game that I expected for a last couple of years, there no more Clooney anymore for play Dark Knight even in dreams :D
@toys1252 Wow! I hope you can get the Batman figure as he's really the nicer one out of the two. Check the CornerstoreComics website. That's where I got mine and they have decent prices and shipping. Good luck getting them! They're cool! :-)

I got mine at my local comic shop called Cornerstore Comics. They have an online store as well and I think they were around $55.
Your custom paint jobs on the Joker are awesome! I'll try to get the Batman figure, probably not going to spend the money for both.
Thanks for the kind words, my friend! I wish I didn't have to repaint the Joker, but the way he came was terrible in my opinion. It looked like they just sprayed some black paint to the middle of his face! If you had to get one of the two, definitely get the Batman as they are kind of pricey!

@emarae the black wash on joker's face is about to resemble a dirty look! So you don't actually need to put some paint on it.

Maybe i will buy the figures but for now i am not so sure i will.

@emarae did you use one coat or waite and put several coats of paint. really like your joker.

Might just wait till HT puts their version out...depending on how good they hook it up......

The flower also has yellow in the middle of the flower
They look great just they were a bit bigger
@classified01 If you're talking about Corner Store Comics, I'm pretty sure they do.

What is the name of that big joker in the background? Company?
Nice figures but i am not so sure if i will buy the figures.
Have you played the game,by the way?
Forgot to tell that Playarts also will make the Harley Quinn.
@GoliathAngelus Oh yeah! Already pre-ordered it with the Armored Batman! :-)
These are great looking figures, but it's a shame the Joker needed to be modded
Great video, thanks for sharing
