When I played P4G (my first Persona game) on my Vita in 2017, I was still in college and had a close-knit group of friends (some of whom were playing P5 at the time). I just completed P5R for the first time this year. The story of the Phantom Thieves is so comforting to me because it reminds me of the beauty of having a group of friends in your life. All of my real life friends live far away now. No love life to speak of. Currently unemployed . . . I have become the No-Lifer (Although I do have a job interview two days from now).
May I suggest another category? "The Persona Veteran" -Someone who has been in the Persona fandom for years, has played all the games, consumed almost all Persona related media and knows practically everything about the series. Their love for the series is strong but they have mostly retired from partaking in fandom activities....mostly. You'll see them pop up every once in a while when something intrigues them, and they're always eager to tell you about the days of old before Persona became the mainstream title it is now. Either that or they'll simply bitch about how things were "back in their days". Don't pay them much mind when that happens. That one is me. I'm that veteran who sometimes screams at the clouds.
That's a good category. I know a lot of people, for fair reasons I'd say, look at the newer Twitter fanbase of Persona in slight disdain. Maybe slight is an understatement lol
What I love about this video as a new Persona player that is just getting through their first run of P4G... bunch of images from P5, but all that awesome nostalgic music from P4.

How well did you end up doing? I never really used guides, but when I played P4G last I did the same thing and got actually super close. If I had like 10 more days I probably could’ve gotten them all
@@HeavenlyM I loved using the guides when I was younger, I had so much anxiety about missing out on a single social link scene or not unlocking certain persona. As long as I stuck to it religiously, I'd always get 100%. When I decided to try P5 without a guide, I did surprisingly well! P5 and especially P5R make it pretty easy to max everything out as long as you're not actively wasting time. I still think I would use a guide with P3FES and P4G, just because you have to be SO on top of your time management with all the unique events on certain days and easy to miss social link flags.

Listen, just because I got into Persona from Smash, doesn't mean that I'm not absolutely in love with the series now. Persona 5 Royal is quite possibly in my top 10 favorite games I've played, and I'm very interested to check out the rest of the series now. Especially 3 since I've heard the story is fantastic My only experience so far is with P5 and P5 Royal, but for both games I took a completely different approach. P5 was super chill, I only maxed out 3 confidants by the end, and as soon as I finished, I was thirsty for more, so I got Royal. With Royal, I decided that I want to do everything there is to do, and maxed out all my confidants and got the Platinum. I didn't end up completing my compendium by the end, but that's what a NG+ playthrough is for. I also used a ton of guides for the Royal playthrough in order to make sure I picked the right dialogue options and didn't miss anything important when it came to confidants. And whenever I inevitably come back to my Royal save file, I'll have Satanael and all my stats and farewell gifts to use and abuse
I started off as the guide plager for my first hour. Then I found more enjoyment in playing however I wanted and decided I'd go for all the Social Links in ng+. Thats how I became a chill player.
I was bored and lonely and under-employed during quarantine, so I ended up binging P4G, P3FES, and P5 back to back over the summer. In that order, because PC P4G. Now they're just kind of a jumble of dungeons and waifus and awesome music in my memories. But I named the main character Dude Broski in every game, which at least gave them all a chill vibe.
I am the Completionist with a dash of the Calculator. Started in P4, was really feeling it. P4G, into P5 and recently P5R. Have platinum for both P5R and P5. Have romanced every waifu, created just about every "ultimate" persona out there for each individual element (Phys/Gun/Almighty included) and pride myself on saying i will one day turn myself over to 1 and 2. SMT i have only really played Nocturne so make of that what you will lol.
I never realized how much of a Guide Cultist I am, but yeah I do this 100% in almost every game I play. I do hours of research before playing most RPG's. When I hear "skill tree," I get out a pen and paper to plan things out.
It's deeper than a lot of games, but when pushed up against a game that focuses on one of those aspects, sometimes it gets outdone. That gives people easy things to complain about. I think, for example, that Mainline SMT's combat is better. However, Persona's social links are so good that I think they make the games worth it on their own. Stuff like that, where it comes down to preference and priorities, can be why it's hated on. Also, ignorance could be a large factor.

@@jessicajohnson2412 Okumura does suck, yeah, lol. It's more so that Persona combat is a less deep version of SMT combat. The press turn system is watered down once it becomes 1-mores, (and baton pass helps, but it isn't enough, in my opinion) and the fact that you only customize the main characters moveset and resistances, vs. SMT where you can control the moves and resistances of the whole party by fusing different demons. I do like Persona, but the social stuff is the highlight. If I'm in the mood to enjoy some deep combat, mainline is better. At least both have amazing music. That's a win-win.

See, during my Persona 5 Royal playthrough I was a Chill player, and then I read online that Chihaya's rank 8 social link allowed you to trigger fusion alarms constantly, I looked at the confidants menu... Rank 2 and halfway through December. It was difficult, but on the 1st of February I've done it, Chihaya rank 8 was achieved, and so, on the 2nd of February, the last playable day, my calculator live started. Went to Mementos with a playtime of 153 hours and spent at least the next 30 hours there, fused an inmortal/auto-buffer Shiki-Ouji and maxxed out Jack Frost/Jack-o'-lantern, I was having so much fun... Until I started to run out of money, farming money after securing the treasure of the last palace is way too slow. And so, now I'm in Ng+, waiting to get Chihaya to rank 8 once again (this time earlier) and start creating chaos everywhere.

I'm a chill player. I never played P3 or 4, but I really took my time with Persona 5, I cleared out the Palaces in one day each, and had time to explore. The only guide I looked up was the guide to avoid dying in jail.
you should add the "real lifer" they are kinda like the no lifer in how they are obsessed with the game but they actually have some kind of life and everything in it must be related to persona lol. They probably call their friends "confidants" and change their wardrobe to have a ton of blazers to feel like joker. They also like cats
Like this? ruclips.net/video/XPJrIH5r_oA/видео.html
I might fall into that type.
That's me
Man, i took the chill player to an extreme (almost 230 hours in my first P5R playthrough)
You beat me out, I only hit 185.
But then, I'm almost religious in saving and reloading any time I have to get up and leave the game sitting. That probably shaved a few hours off overall
I'm the "loved the fuck out of it for 3 straight years then got horrible burnout until recently"
Yep. 100% Platinumed P5, havent touched Royal. (Bought the collectors edition. Ive used the mask that comes with it more than the game.)
I've halfway through P5R on Merciless for months. I just stopped one day because I'd already completed base P5 and the new mechanics and difficulty lost their luster for a minute. I'll get back into it eventually but sometimes it's good to take an extended break...
@@alzhanvoid Same!! This was literally me up until about a month ago. Loved P5, thought I was going to be super into P5R upon release but it took me a long while to want to dive in. Finally got into P5R and got super hooked for 122 hours. And now... I can't even touch it anymore 😭
From taking the plunge, to burning out, to another plunge, and another burnout 😂 'tis a vicious but joyful cycle.
@@conspiracypanda1200 I suggest going through P4 and P3, it made me not be burned out of persona 5 anymore
I’m a mix of all, but am mainly in between the chill player and the completionist.
sadly fusion calculator, ive spent several hours in the velvet room, atleast 10 hours
P5r does that to me in a way no other game does... P3, P4, and Normal p5 i was fine, but Royal ruined me.
I only did it to max twins confidant because twins are OP lol
@@hollyfindlay4051 what changes did they make in royal that made it worse because I've spent hours in the velvet room already in normal P5 so P5r being worse scares me.
@@The_best17 They made personas much more malleable, with the addition of a trait to each as well as their skills. Also, fusion alarms allow you to easily get stats to 99 and unique items, which just meant I hung out there more than ever.
@@hollyfindlay4051 oh so basically they made the velvet room more broken and easier to get broken stuff from there?
When I played P4G (my first Persona game) on my Vita in 2017, I was still in college and had a close-knit group of friends (some of whom were playing P5 at the time).
I just completed P5R for the first time this year. The story of the Phantom Thieves is so comforting to me because it reminds me of the beauty of having a group of friends in your life. All of my real life friends live far away now. No love life to speak of. Currently unemployed . . . I have become the No-Lifer (Although I do have a job interview two days from now).
Hope everything went good at the interview and you're enjoying life and yourself more now. Cheering 4 u mate.
hope you're doing good now
May I suggest another category?
"The Persona Veteran"
-Someone who has been in the Persona fandom for years, has played all the games, consumed almost all Persona related media and knows practically everything about the series.
@@HeavenlyM hahaha, I feel them on that xD
You just described Persona 2 fans in twitter lol

I'm soo the Calculator. the amount of literal hours I spent in the Velvet room perfecting my personas is unreal.
3:30 I missed a random text from Mishima in August and I couldn't get the complete all Mementos requests trophy in Persona 5 so I feel this.
So true! In my case i dont work at lala chan due to tight schedule in my social link (which not all maxed as well lol, damn u shinya)
Same, i got all the trophies in my second playthrough except for the requests' trophy because i forgot to do the request about the bully who bullies other bullies so i had to do a 3rd playthrough
The description you gave of the SMT purist, an smt fan who shits on persona online really reminds me of someone in the smt community....

Yes I am the no lifer.
You forgot the person that wants to be special and says things like "Only Persona 1 and 2 are good".
They also probably haven't played Persona 1 or 2.
I was deeeefinitely a strict guide follower when I started out with P3P on my PSP and again with P4 on PS2. When P5 came out, I finally felt confident enough in my time management skills and gave it the blind playthrough experience.
I, too, turn into Purple Eggman Gloucester whenever I play persona
I think I'm 40% of "the guide cult member", 40% of "the chill player" and 20% of the compleitonist.
I think I'm a mix of chill player and completionist. Anyone else feel like its a necessity to play at least a second playthrough for every Persona game? It's hard to part ways with such a good game. It just feels like you leave your friends whenever the game ends.
2:45 So nobody actually wants to see my lvl 99 max stat yoshitsune with apt pupil hassou tobi??
I’m the calculator idk why but it’s just so fucking fun, but I do care about the main story plus confidants, but goddamn I love the velvet room

I guess I’m the chill player. I loved the game so much and didn’t want it to end, so when I felt myself playing too much I took a 1 month break. I only maxed out my social stats to interact with confidants, but I mostly stayed away from guides and played the game as if I was really Joker
I’m the guide cultist, the calculator, and the completionist combined lol. I use a guide on every persona game till I get used to the game 😂. Then I spend way too much time in the velvet room perfecting personas and completing the compendium as well😂😂. Then I try to 100% the game on every new game I play through. That means social links, stats, and beat the bosses on the hardest difficulty. I love a challenge!

Listen, just because I got into Persona from Smash, doesn't mean that I'm not absolutely in love with the series now. Persona 5 Royal is quite possibly in my top 10 favorite games I've played, and I'm very interested to check out the rest of the series now. Especially 3 since I've heard the story is fantastic
My only experience so far is with P5 and P5 Royal, but for both games I took a completely different approach.

Pretty much same, I'm a student so when quarantine hit there was nothing to do and I played them in the reverse order as you. Good memories

I an a Persona fangirl and I do not feel ashamed for loving this franchise, I really dont get why Persona gets bashed for
It's deeper than a lot of games, but when pushed up against a game that focuses on one of those aspects, sometimes it gets outdone.
