    Awesome work on the pod / pod mod review, good to see some reviews of all-time classics, rather than just the latest marketing ploy. Your pod review is on the money. I've had an original pod for 10 years (how's that for longevity, but its got a 6 x 4 x 4 glass job as older model) and it is a swiss army knife of a board, and a one board quiver for the intermediate, older surfer. Can just about handle thigh high+ but better in waist high+ waves (all wave types, junky or clean), bigger it gets, the better it gets. You need some sort of curl on the wave for the board to work better. Having said that, took it out in waist to shoulder high really fat malibu waves yesterday and it handled it. Cos of the rocker, its great for steep drops and its got a wide nose, but its not too wide so you can fully knife into the wave on take-off. Basically handles about 80% of the waves for my local. I've bought a load of different boards (local shapers & big brands) but always go back to this one. It's a magic all-rounder and not a dedicated grovellor. Highly recommended but HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. I'm getting a Pod Mod now as well for a full Pod quiver from thigh to overhead.

    Hey craig, I've had a pod mod for a good six months now and it is an awesome board - great recommendation. I bought a slightly bigger size post lockdown (!) - but have now lost some weight so looking at getting another smaller size for the same kind of wave range. What are some of the best grovelers out there with the pod mod's versatility? I was looking at a smaller pod mod, a JS psycho nitro, maybe a firewire evo.
    Not sure if you've surfed any of these and how they'd compare to a CI pod mod for ease of surfing, wave type, wave range, late drops. Surfing dumpy, steep beach breaks waist to head high, sometimes clean, sometimes bumpy faces.

      @@thomasedison2806 I'm 190 lbs ish and got a 6 ft pod mod at 39 litres for thigh to head high waves. Its actually been pretty good at that size so I'm gonna just stick with the board and not get another smaller one. I'm surfing pretty bad quality, dumpy beach breaks, with a lot of rips - and I'm not a great surfer, intermediate at best - so I wouldn't have gone any smaller for my fitness level / skill / age. Its a great board though - at that volume I've used it all summer and all winter. I don't get many overhead days at my local. You will not go wrong with a Pod Mod or the original Pod is awesome as well, if you're a more skilled surfer. The Pod Mod at that size and my weight paddles good, duck dives good and is really user friendly to ride - gets you out of trouble.

    Find my pod mode goes much better in overhead conditions with punch more than as a groveler

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  3 года назад

      Yeah true - i've even heard of people using The Pod as a slab board by thickening it up, but keeping it short. Adding a round tail helps too!

    Great review mate 🤙🏼what would be the main difference between Pod and Biscuit 🍪? The rocker I supposed, but essentially both are grovellers

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 года назад +2

      Gabriel Miranda hey!
      The Pod is quite performance, has quite a bit of rocker for a small board, and is good in waves 2ft+
      The Biscuit is super flat and really thick, you’d also ride it quite small, I think I ride a Biscuit years ago at like 5’4 x 33L, and while it was super fun in tiny waves, it really wasn’t for waves over 2ft...

    Great review with both boards! I just got a pod mod 5’10 35.6 Liters. I’m just entering the realm of “intermediate” so the additional volume should do me good. I surf a steep point break wave that gets head high to a bit bigger at times. In your experience, do you think the pod mod holds up well? I know you did touch upon this in your video a bit. I am just wondering about specifics. Great moves out there too by the way. Ive got some work to do!

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 года назад +1

      Hey! They are both great boards and both super versatile.
      If you are tossing up between the two, i think the Pod Mod would be better for waves 1-4ft, and the Pod for waves 3-6ft.
      So if you are going to be surfing bigger or steeper waves, i'd go with the Pod! But, the Pod Mod is still a favorite!

      Pod mod works better in heaving barrels than pod. 6-8ft (double overhead+) is where the pod mod shines most for me and is my go to when the swell is solid and chucking. Throw some quads in that badboy and you can send it on some pretty steep and solid waves aswell as grovel on 1/2ft.

    you think the pod mod is similar to the new Glazer?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 года назад

      Not at all.
      New Glazer is like a refined Channel Islands Biscuit - I’ve got one on order, so will check them both out soon!

      Large AM’s for the thruster - and the Hayden quad rears in the back to make it a quad!
