- Some Puerto Ricans are illegally occupying land and buildings to resist gentrification and displacement.
This story was possible thanks to @therealnews and the Economic Hardship Reporting Program.
I'm an Alaskan I've been to Puerto Rico and why I really admire you for what you're doing please do not stop
Omg. I’m Alaskan native (Tlingit) and Puerto Rican 😅
..so this is what Bad Bunny was talking about
Video shouldn't be restricted, they just wanna restrict it so we can't gain knowledge 💯
No vale nada!
Dang it’s really sad to see what we would actually call ‘hairy’ people buying abandoned buildings for money and then doing nothing, while saying the local community can’t use them to better the community. It’s disgusting, money is all people see and why care about anyone else. I hope more and more can be occupied and belong to the local community and turned into centers for healing and growth. Thank you for continuing to showcase this issue.
This has to be 1 of the best news I've heard in a long time, keep up this amazing work, bringing the untold/unseen to light. Much blessing to all.
What I love about this women about this sister is that she goes out of her way to spread truth and stories of Puerto Rico to the people
She's a patriot that loves her colony. I need to apread info like about DR how we need to expell all Haitian.
Maybe if we all get like her.We can change PR together. But hey, what do i know
It hurts seeing so much places and environments being sold to people who just want to make money out of the island with Airbnbs but it really gives me hope seeing a lot of people coming together to try to use all those abandoned places for helping those in need
but the main GDP of Puerto Rico is tourism...
How bout they cut off that and see how long it lasts
I felt bad until she happened to mention the gov son owns 50% of the AIRBNB...
@@tonyelbows8045 obviously they’d do fine considering these people have already made their own community spaces and are becoming self sufficient. Stop going with these narratives that islands “need” our invasive tourism.
You honor us with your posts. You keep us updated and relevant. Puerto Rico and it’s people matter and you are letting everyone know. Thank you.😢
Are there ways to donate to these local organizations? If someone could give a link or add one to the description that would be great!
Puerto Ricans needs a long-term sustainable approach developing their communities and taking care of their families.
Puerto Ricans rarely demand the pay they deserve. Per Capita is half what the lowest state in the US is. This makes it nearly impossible for Puerto Ricans to buy their own land. Also need to reform their banking system. They need to investigate everyone and imprison without mercy corrupt businesses politicians and governement employees. Streamline their legitimate small business permitting system. So many things are wrong here that make normal economic developement very difficult.
Is more complicazted than that the probkem is not the money is the banking system they ask too much. In PR we don't pay car insurance monthly Healthcare and Education are more affordable etc we cannot compare two countries that are so apart to each other one is a imperialistic country that has made it self rich at the cost of fucking everybody else. and comapre with the world oldest colony....
I came across this video while trying to figure out what if anything I can do about my grandpa’s house. It will be virtually impossible to track down, nor gain compliance from every relative, with some who’ve seemingly disappeared altogether. I’ve done so much digging, trying to track down, crim, the municipality, several lawyers….at this point, i am looking for ways to do what this video shows. Occupy the land, maintain it, and just keep it in the family. But I need to get the lights and gas on, and I can’t figure out how to do that without proof of ownership. How can I get utilities on without ownership? I don’t want to sell it, I want to save it and one day bring my kids to this home that I spent my summers as a child. To honor my grandpas legacy. He built that home with his father and he took so much pride in it. So do I. I can’t let it go to abandonment! Too sentimental for that!
Thank you for making this video! Very proud of my brothers and sisters fighting against these parasites!
Thank you for shining a light on the potential our people have. I was on the the island about a month ago after 5 years and all I could think of was how beautiful and well made is our island. Puerto Rico has soooo much potential to grow and be bigger and better then what it is right at this moment. I hope you continue with this content and may it inspire all of us to come together as a community and RISE PUERTO RICO to the beautiful potential she has ❤
I want to be a part of this group!! My kind of people
It’s so sad that this is happening! 2 years ago you could rent a home for $500 now you can’t find anything under $1000 when the majority of the population lives off minimum wage!
$500 ? That sounds expensive based on the income

Such a well made production - lets go P fkn R!!!
Don't forget to pin your own comment
Bianca resist what exactly?
Those greedy investors need to have all of their properties in Puerto Rico confiscated and given to the people of Puerto Rico in order to use as a community. Those greedy investors care little or nothing for the local people.
This people are fixing, and the owners just sit back, and wait, then attack, now they could ask for more money, and kick you out, they don't care about the people they just want the money, so you have to stand strong, and I remember that puertoricans are solid, and strong when they get together as one mind set, I love my people..
#GringoGoHome
Puerto Rico is changing, that's life, nothing stays the same.
I've been binge watching your videos, Bianca! They are so well made.
This video especially resonates as I focus on community development and economics in under utilised areas. In 2018 to 2020 I worked on a digital contract and investment system that makes it easier for communities like you highlight to own the places they live and are actively focused on supporting. I've sent you a LinkedIn request to hopefully chat further and see how we can help, not just those in this video, but those in many of your videos.
Thank you for all you are showcasing ❤
It’s so sad to see my grandfather’s hometown like that but hopeful that good people are trying to make communal spaces
Great reporting Bianca. A Cooperative should be considered, as it relates to contributions to purchase land and property, to be held in trust on behalf of Puerto Ricans. This may already be in place. If so please share so we can contribute. Gracias.
I just wabt to tell you that you are a Jewel... most precious!! I am going to dive into all of your videos. Thank You for your work your time and your love of the peoples and the land!!
Tremendo reportaje! PR es nuestro!
Thank you for the excellent reporting!
Great ground level journalism on this channel....saludos!!!
🔥 Great ‼️ Take it back, grow your own food, and make Puerto Rico even better than before.
“You will own nothing and be happy”
Thats whats up! All the power, to all the people, all the time!
Revitalization, not gentrification. ❤
Great news perspective!
Enhorabuena por su lucha. Solo el pueblo salva al pueblo.
Please give a way for viewers to take action
People only care when it becomes valuable to someone else. Better late than never
Love it.
Thank you.
Shalom!
Gracias a tu plataforma y voz! I been wanting to move back. Im 22 years old and been in the mainland since the age of 5 years old. Originally from Cidra and moved for 7 months in 2016-2017 & had to go back. Quisiera irme a mi isla. I was so happy those 7 months, felt to free, not stressed and met so many people while i was in high school. Quiero volver but all my family is here in the states. I have nothing to go to pero mi corazón pide mi isla hopefully one day I can go back home😔🔭
I support you 100% ! You are a courageous woman and I am behind you 100%
Keep up the amazing work you're doing on reporting the injustice and how the locals Puerto Ricans are fighting back
Saludó desde la República Dominicana excelente vídeo
So what exactly do you expect from the government. If you don’t want to be part of the US then claim independence.
Muchas gracias. Y que viva puerto rico 🇵🇷
I love this!!!
Love 💕 your videos especially this one bc it’s talking about my familia in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷…..Thank you, for bringing awareness I have herd of a lot of investors purchasing land, just so they will not have to pay 💰 taxes… We need to get a petition started!!! Indicating and summit to Congress not to allow investors to profit or purchase properties that are beneficial to the community!!! And if investors do purchase properties they need to give back to the communities & neighborhoods!!! Along with investors being audit every 6 months!!! It’s time 4 change and we need to help save our neighborhoods and our beloved island 🏝️ 🙏🏾🇵🇷🫶🏾🤲🏾!!!!
Fortunate enough to have met Zeuz and got a look at what Urbe Apie is doing in Caguas during a brigade to PR with my organization love the work theyre doing
God bless and protect this community to save their land to feed and house their people.
Boricua pelea !!!! Carajo!!!! Libertad!!!!
A Puerto Rico without Puerto Ricans make me so sad but for the majority of us, leaving for a better life is inevitable
❤🎉 Good 👍😊 for "the pelus"❤❤❤
Why blame the investors? Blame the Puerto Ricans WHO SOLD THE PROPERTY!!! sheesh
🎉your work is amazing!
Found this video on decolonize this space instra. Love these projects 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 and glad you could buy back the building 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
In the town of Cabo Rojo they have already started to remove literally ALL the abandoned buildings that have been catalogued as public nuisances and you can instantly notice the difference. That is what I think they should do in all the towns in the country to prevent them from looking ugly and archaic.
What a great video, thank you so much for sharing.
😡 this has got to stop when is all of my Puerto Rican people are going to wake up and put a stop of this because I feel that they are throwing you people out of the island money is the root of all evil. It corrupt money.😡
This is the way.
It will be very hard to have puertorricans in Puerto Rico when the birth rate is at 2nd worse in the world. A resistance needs people. This is another topic that needs to be reported. Keep it up, Bianca.
Why would the country have kids with 45% of the island living below the poverty line. Puerto Rico doesnt Even have the benefit to have growing industries where young people work. Basically everyone I went to highschool with just works at the outlets despite having degrees.
Thank for reporting this I shared it
What Puerto Rico has gone through is the blueprint to succeed through any recession...
Power to the people - I love you Puerto Rico!!! ¡Hasta la victoria! ✊
This is happening in the US too. I have lived in the same place for 13 years. My rent then was $268 dollars now in 2024 it in $440 plus utilities that average $70 over a hundred percent more. I moved to this place because no one wanted to live here. Why, because people with money are buying up the land and building $400,000 houses. I am on a fixed income and do not know when I will be homeless and i am 80 now. The mental pain is over whelming, want to do? I see the pain in your peoples eyes and voices and would love to live in Puerto Rico, but it looks like you are under the same stress. Sad, such a beautiful country.
eso Boricua!!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Bravo por estos valientes ciudadanos.
I think it is a disgrace for the Puertorican government to not look after its land, its people.
It's going even further. They have now taken land that is considered national reserves and are selling them to Americans so they can build hotels. They've also sold municipal land that is a Taino archeological site and sold it to an investor. This investor wanted to destroy the site because he claimed it was "contaminated".
@@TainaPR2024that is just digusting. It saddens me to see ny homeland destroyed like that
🇵🇷 What if you come to find out that they are not “outsiders” and in fact come from Puerto Rican bloodlines? It’s happening more than you know though many are not yet consciously aware of it. But for now many are woefully unaware. The fact that none agreed to an on camera interview tells me that despite outward appearances, they are perhaps embarrassed and humans after all. There is so much more to this story, more than the most ardent reporter is aware of. All of my words come with good intentions. I love Puerto Rico and its people! 🇵🇷
An investor is an investor. Why aren’t you looking at your government to manage this whole process properly.
What they’re doing it’s called trespassing.
¡¡¡ Viva Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 Libre !!!
Gentrificacion NO. Boricuacion SI
So p.ricans are inviting these people to buy 🏮 😡😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
I support 💯 I love view smart people
Gracias
Don’t blame foreigners for what they do or don’t do with those building. The vast majority were sitting empty/ abandoned way before an outsider bought it.
Awesome!!!!! 🙂😊😊
My landlord was named Tenenbaum when I lived on Calle Elena in OceanPark in 90s. Old man, had a lot of properties. Real axxhole. Wondering if Brian is his grandson or relation
Excelente 🙏💪🙏
I love what these people are doing. Hopefully this will also start happening in Los Angeles.
How can we start a movement like this with all the government schools on the island that has been closed and what appeared to be abandoned - intowns like aguadilla, Mayaguez amd Rincon they are either beach from property or high value property ?
PR Arriba Siempre en Lucha
🎉 Amazing 👏
About 5 years ago, I told a friend in PR that there would no longer be any Puerto Ricans in PR. It was a matter of time, and GREED would come in. You can believe that ALL those problems that PR continues to have will be addressed AND resolved when the Puerto Ricans are no longer there. Unfortunately, that's how gentrification works. 😢😢😢
Its sad. The only way out is independence
🙏
maraming salamat po!!! MABUHAY!!!
❤❤❤
many of those milioners bought mutual fund and other investments back in the 90's under the 501's (Tax Free).
You are incredibly beautiful and strong. Wow just wow.. so impressed by your commitment to Puerto Rico. God bless you.
