​@@jenniewolfe-zh3hi This was the last Conference he attempted to stand to give his talk. His remaining Conferences he was seated and the podium and microphone were brought to him. He passed away a few years after this, joining his loved ones who passed before him on the other side of the veil. He was such a loving and gentle soul. Absolutely lived what he preached.

​@1god126 That wasn't anger, it was compassion. It reminded me of when they held up Moses arms during a battle. He was trying to help him. Also, I think if Wirthlin didn't feel up to it, he could have passed on that chance to speak and they would have been OK with it. Other members of the 12 have done the same. I think it's safe to say that he wanted to do this though. It's a sign of his faith and dedication that he did give this talk. He knew what condition he was in, but chose to speak anyhow. He felt his message was that important.

​@@1god126 This was his choice to stand. His remaining Conferences before he passed away, he gave the address seated. The leaders also have pre-recorded their talks, or asked their wives to read what they have written in the past. I am sure he felt sure that he could do it, and when it became clear that he was struggling, President Nelson stood to assist him. President Nelson was a practicing heart surgeon, and the look on his face is clearly not anger, but compassion and concern for a fellow member of the quorum of the apostles who was clearly struggling. He also did it quietly, not wanting to draw attention away from the inspired thoughts Elder Wirthlin was sharing.
I encourage you to look up the full talk from October 2007 titled "The Great Commandment". Pay attention to how you feel, and I am sure on a second watch of the full talk, you will understand more clearly the reality of the situation. It is always an option to address the Church seated, remotely, or even by proxy.

I loved this moment then, over thought of it often since, and to see it now is so sweet.
The dedication to perservere, the respect of a brother, the quiet support, the reassurance... in some ways, it's like Moses raising his arms and needing others to help keep them up.
There's lots of things that can be attributed to Russel M Nelson standing behind Elder Withlin from medically professional to ecclesiastical but it all boils down to love and respect.
To see a medical giant and pioneer respected around the world exibit quiet, graceful service so his brother in The Gospel could deliver his message without interuption is beautifully humble and strong.

Who are you believing when they told you that we worship our Church leaders? The Savior said, "by their fruits you will know them". The fruit of spreading lies is pretty dark and distasteful. I respect our leaders, but I only worship God, and His Son, Jesus Christ, who came to Earth so that He could be our Mediator with the Father. How do you know that Jesus Christ is your personal Savior?

I remember watching this at home and becoming so distressed. That immediately changed when then Elder Nelson appeared. I relaxed knowing Elder Wirthlin wouldn’t fall to the ground. This was a perfect pairing of Elder Nelson’s professional background and his Apostolic love for his brother. Beautiful to see.
