Kapeliele Faupala a été intronisé roi de Wallis vendredi 25 JUILLET 2008 à 9h45 sur la place Malae Sagato Soane, face au palais royal devant près de deux mille personnes et des invités de marque. Le nouveau lavelua succède ainsi au monarque Tomasi Kulimoetoke qui avait régné quarante-huit ans.
King Faupala, locally known as the Kalai Ki Valu, is a retired public servant, in the French administration and the local public works department, where he served until 1995.He hails from the village of Ahoa, in the centre of Wallis Island.

MATA'UTU, WALLIS ---- The new King of Wallis, Kapiliele Faupala, 68, has been crowned in front of some two thousand people, chiefs and officials from the French Pacific islands, as well as New Caledonia. Oceania Flash reports
The ceremony, which was broadcast live on the French Overseas Television network RFO, followed the announcement mid-July from the island's traditional council of ministers, who said Faupala was their choice to succeed late Tomasi Kulimoetoke, who died in May 2007 after a record 48 years of reign.
For the past four years, Faupala had been heading what is locally referred to as the Customary Council of Ministers, a body that enjoys a certain form of recognition from the ruling French authorities under the 1961 status of Overseas Territory signed with France by Kulimoetoke.
King Faupala, locally known as the Kalai Ki Valu, is a retired public servant, in the French administration and the local public works department, where he served until 1995.He hails from the village of Ahoa, in the centre of Wallis Island.
Today the coronation was the culmination of a series of elaborate traditional ceremonies, involving traditional gifts and a kava ceremony. The ceremonies took place on the main grounds of the capital Mata'utu.

This is the Uvea version of the Tongan 'Fakapangai'. The people of Uvea are actually Tongans that migrated there centuries ago. That is why their language is the next closest thing to the Tongan language and their culture is the closest thing to Tongan culture out of all the other polynesian islands. You can understand almost everything they are saying. Futuna are mostly descendants of Samoa, though.

Yes i am a descendant of a mysterious (probably a woman with black magic) named NEFU from TOKELAU i guess, she came to Uvea with 2 nobles people from TOKELAU their name were TUA and FAFIE they come to help us for a war i don't remember which one. NEFU is also the name of a fish which was gave to the people of Uvea who live in the village of GAHI as a gift from TOKELAU islands. It says that 2 sharks come from Tokelau to the large of Gahi and release the NEFU from their mouth, every year, maybe between April and June. The descendant of TUA and FAFIE are the original Chief line of the village of Gahi.

Da heck ? does it ? does uvea have the same roots as the tongans ? I though they share similar things such as the dialect, I mean they're a bit different but my grand mam' from Uvea (Liku) told me that Uvea has its own culture and Tongans just came a few years later to overrule us .
