This video is awesome because we always say “it’s more than just a game” in a positive connotation but it is just more than a game and there’s people’s lives at play so it is ultimately their choice, look at pronger leaving Edmonton for his wife and what not. I never played pro or anything but I always played competitive so anyways I had moved away from my small hometown when I was 12 and obviously didn’t know anyone when I moved out here, so I just signed up for hockey and went in blind. Well lucky for me I met an amazing coach, Rob, and played for him for the next two years. 3 or 4 years down the road have met tons of people out here and I end up running into the same coach at evaluations. I remember just having a real good talk with him and told him I was gonna play for him no matter what division he was coaching. Well, draft comes around and I get a call from the div 1 team and I ask if he coach’s with Rob, no dice so I thank him for the offer and we move on. Same thing with the Div 2 coach and this time this coach is not very happy when the call ends so I kinda felt bad. Not even a minute goes by and I get a call from Rob and we ended up winning the championship that year.

It’s funny how you detail what happened to Bure in Vancouver. Almost nobody in Vancouver actually knows the real details. I was a huge fan and never heard a peep about this during his time in Vancouver. It was never said in the media at the time, and all the hockey talk shows in town insinuated Bure was a spoiled brat and prima donna. Worst of all was the story told to media that Bure threatened management to sit out during the 1994 playoffs if his contract demands weren’t met. One can only presume the real problem was that the team wasn’t prepared to spend the sort of money Bure could demand, and would prefer to risk the disaster that unfolding rather than reach deeper into their pockets and be blamed for losing him. I hope more people become aware of what really happened. On a side note, how the hell could Bure’s agent not notice the contract was in CA dollars and not US dollars?? Bizarre.
@@adamw3916 I mean Edm is a perennial playoff team now and could make the moves to be a serious playoff team. Buffalo is comparatively on a different planet they're that much further away.

The eichel trade was acc good for buffalo cuz they got a winger with elite potential in krebs and a solid top 6 guy in tuch. They also got a 1st and 2nd rounder which are very valuable now, especially since vegas isn't a playoff team anymore. Eichel made their team worse, they went 14-14-1 when they were playing him compared to having a winning record and being a top 2 team in the pacific. Vegas just got a 3rd and a crybaby. Jack Eichel also wanted out of Buffalo and everyone knew it, they just didn't have a ton of leverage, so for their situation, I think they did pretty good.
I had the opportunity to talk candidly to Brian Burke years ago. Burke took over from Pat Quinn who did not honor a clause in his contract stemming from the 94-95 lockout that Quinn/Ownership would not honour. Festered for a few years to the point Bure said that's it, no pay no play. Burke said he tried to talk him back but it was too caustic a situation by then. Pat Quinn supposedly blew the Gretzky deal as well by trying to strong arm #99, Gretzky was having no part of that and signed with the Blues. So as much as I liked Pat Quinn he screwed us out of more Pavel Bure and having Gretzky. Imagine those 2 together.
As for Jack Eichel, his value in the trade must have been impacted by his physical condition. After the surgery and rehabilitation, there is no 100% guarantee that he will be back playing at the same level as he did before. This IMHO explains the return from the Sabres.
Eric Lindros: I will NEVER play for the Quebec Nordiques! Quebec Nordiques: Okay then, we understand. *Quebec later that day* Nordiques: "Hello New Jersey, can we speak to Scott Stevens please?"
I don’t think people realize the cost if Buffalo retained, if it was only 2 mill a year that’s 10 mill over the 5 remaining and I doubt a first round pick is worth 10 mill especially from a competitive team (most likely 20th or later pick)
That game was so awesome. I was fortunate enough to be at the game. From the opening pick drop, I was booing at the top of my lungs from the nose bleeds lol. One of the best games I’ve ever seen. 6-0 flames Dub!
The return for Fox in the trade to New York is a little inaccurate. Carolina traded the 2019 2nd to Ottawa (who drafted Sogaard) but they themselves turned that into another 2nd and a 3rd that become Jamieson Rees and Antoni Honka.
It isn't odd because HOCKEY IS A VIOLENT KILLER BLOODY TEAM PLAYER GAME! (even with less fighting and less checking). There is a lot of shooting, slashing and beatings involved!
You are overating how simple eichels recovery is. Its not at all a guarantee he returns to form. Return to mobility rate is 87%, most surgeries its 95-99%. He could technically just get the fusion if the disc replacement that he got doesnt work but movement will never fully recover at that point.
Problem is the neck fusion is basically borrowed time. He would have to retire after 6 or 7 years at most. With the disk replacement, he has a better chance of having a longer career. Neck fusion would also limit his head mobility too since turning his head with a fused spine is rather difficult
I am annoyed about Fox as a Flames fan, but Carolina got screwed the most really. They got fleeced by the Rangers. But, I'm glad that they (Carolina) are doing well now though, they have great defense anyway. Lindholm has been one of top 3 players since then, and Hanifin has been ok.
It was with a pick they got from Carolina. I don't remember the exact transaction where Ottawa got the pick... though I guess that puts Ottawa on the Adam Fox trade tree... odd...
3:55 - Eichel 10M 66 points in 2022-23 for Alex Tuch 36 goals 79 points 4.75M, Peyton Krebs. Noah Ostlund and a 2nd round pick this year... yah @rob talks hockey you aren't looking good in hindsight here!
Sabres fan, I just wanna say that Buffalo got a decent return, it’s a win win. Vegas will make the playoffs next season And get the missing piece hopefully. Sabres get a young player in krebs who looks to be a 60 point guy and tuch a local guy who goes hard to the net like Chris krieder.
Eric Lindros will forever be the 1# player that tops a "NHL stars who refused to play for their team". He blankly refused to even put on the Quebec Nordiques jersey upon the 1991 NHL draft and held out an entire 1992 NHL season because he did not want to play for them despite the team's offensive star talents of Joe Sakic, Mats Sundin & Owen Nolan onboard. Heck Sakic,. the team captain was major fed up with that in 1992 and felt just trade him if he don't want to be here. He said several times before the draft AND after that he just did not see them as a winning team and wanted to go somewhere he could be with a contender for the cup. Never before or after have we seen such diva acting. The rules of NHL drafting is clear. The team that is in position to draft a player and picks a name - that player is obligated to report to that team or he will never enter the NHL. Just go there, sign your 3 year entry contract and learn from all experiences and then if you do not want to stay when time is up, just sign with a whole other team in the league.
Lindros is the poster boy until Connor Bedard gets picked by Bufallo or Edmonton and refuses to play there lol. Anyways the rules in the CBA actually say that a player may re enter the entry draft if he doesn't sign with his team after x amount of years. And also a player can't just sign with another team after the entry contract he'd be an rfa for a few more years yet typically
The Rangers Carolina Adam fox trade is actually a really good trade for Carolina because fox was going to end up in New York anyways and they still managed to score two 2nd round picks
@Mike Schwab fox wasn't going to sign with the canes. He would've signed with rangers after exiting college, hence why both flames and canes traded him. Nobody else was going to pay what rangers did knowing he wouldn't sign with them. Is it a good deal relative to Fox's production? Absolutely not. But 2 2nd round picks is better than nothing.

If you think Tage Thompson is better than O’Reilly is you dont know hockey. O’Reilly won a cup as arguably the best player. Dont tryn make that trade seem good lol
@@alecmoore6955 If you think I said Thompson is better than O'Reilly, you lack reading comprehension...
I see kinda see a pattern going on in Vancouver, giving their players bad contracts then trading them to Florida. Like louongo for example
Let’s not forget how Tkachuk absolutely dismantled Shesterkin right as Flames fans were booing Fox
Lmfao love these nhl friends bits my guy 😂😂🙏🔥 great editing and humour is on point indefinitely 😂😂😂👏👏
Adding the AAV on the trade was a great detail in the video
Rangers' fan here. In a way, it's too bad that Fox signed with us. If he had signed with the Flames, he would have worn those red uniforms, and more people would see the similarity between Fox and The Crimson Chin. MAN, does Fox have a chin!
I am glad fox is not in Calgary . we all know that the eastern hockey writers gave him the norris because of their eastern bias , Calgary has fed on eastern teams so far this year 20 games in . 2 game total point this year between the strangers and flames is 10 -1 .
I don't know about you, seeing as he's 23 and our best player, I'm glad he wound up in New York.
@@redlion45 Fox is an amazing player, a key part of the Rangers, and I am super glad he's on our team. I'd be really pissed off if they hadn't signed him to his recent contract. I was just making a joke about his chin. I probably shouldn't have made fun of him. Adam, if you're reading this (like that would happen), I am super glad you're a Ranger, and I'm sorry I made fun of your chin.
The best part about that flames game is the amount the flames destroyed rangers, then fox actually scored trying to silence the crowd…. It was disallowed 🤣🤣
It was a shame too because it was a beautiful goal
I guess there are already enough videos about them but Patrick Roy and Eric Lindros are 2 huge stories that both helped the Nordiques / Avalanche in the end during the 90s
Bizarre.
On the bright side, it looks like Tage Thompson is well on the way to becoming a superstar player for the Sabres
Bure was easily the most explosive skater ever.
Crazy to think how close buffalo was to having both Mcdavid and draisaitl
It’s better for the universe that those 2 weren’t
wasted on Buffalo
@@brianhum8765 they were wasted on edm tho😂
@@adamw3916 I mean Edm is a perennial playoff team now and could make the moves to be a serious playoff team. Buffalo is comparatively on a different planet they're that much further away.
@@brianhum8765 dude the Calgary Flames have more playoff wins in Edmontons new arena than Edmonton and its like 5 years old.
@Brian Hum they technically were wasted on Edmonton up until they began carrying the team on their backs
Pegula fired Coach Lindy Ruff when he bought the team. We haven’t been to the playoffs since.
Ottawa Drafted a Goalie first round in 98... or tried to he didn't sign . 2 years later they tried drafting him again in 2nd round 🤣
Keep up the good work Rob love your content as always 💯💯
Love the perfect dark soundtrack in the background!
This video is gunna get you a lot of viewers. Nice job
Throughout my childhood the Buffalo Sabres were the bane of the Eastern Conference with great players like Mike Peca, Miroslav Satan, Mike Grosek, Stu Barnes and a line up of heavy hitters like Barnaby, Rob Ray all backed up by Dominick Hasek. That team was a perennial playoff contender.
Throughout my childhood as well….Gilbert Perrault, Pierre Turgeon, Pat LaFontaine, Alex Mogilny, Dale Hawerchuk, Phil Housley, Tom Barrasso, Hasek, Puppa, sauvè….the list goes on….but believe it or not Buffalos best chance to win a cup was in 1993….we had a major powerhouse squad with Mogilny, LaFontaine, Hawerchuk, Andreychuk….in the second round Hrant Fuhr got hurt and we had an unknown Hasek on the bench….we rushed to get Fuhr back instead.

Bure and Odjick are still good friends to this day. Whenever Bure visits Vancouver he stays at Odjick's place in South Vancouver.
for some reason I knew you would put Bure as #1 lol also push the like button for Rob! He puts out quality content every week and it only takes a fraction of a second to do so
Lol I was at the Flames game that they were booing Adam Fox 😂😂
For the Devils there was Mike Van Rym who we drafted in the 1st round but he didn’t have a long NHL career so it’s not like we missed out
Adam Fox is a very good player for my Rangers. That Pavel Bure deal was unreal. Surprised he didn’t have his agent retired.
Love your content, Rob. Keep it up!
I literally have no clue why you don’t have anymore subs you should be famous
Hahaha looking back on this video, ROR trade aged beautifully, Tage Thompson is a beast. Jeff Skinner isn’t close to the worst contract anymore
Imagine those 2 together.
thanks for the video rob !
Damn Vancouver that is some Melnyk level penny pinching,
The fact you went to Bure but not Lindros was a pleasant surprise
Just wanted to mention, love the shirt you have hung up in the back.
1:25 - Hindsight... the Ryan O'Reilly trade was the Sabres getting the best player!
As for Jack Eichel, his value in the trade must have been impacted by his physical condition. After the surgery and rehabilitation, there is no 100% guarantee that he will be back playing at the same level as he did before. This IMHO explains the return from the Sabres.
Eichel never really got the chance to get healthy after this last neck injury. The Sabres kept pushing him back to the lineup before he was 100%.
Eric Lindros: I will NEVER play for the Quebec Nordiques!
Quebec Nordiques: Okay then, we understand.
*Quebec later that day*
Nordiques: "Hello New Jersey, can we speak to Scott Stevens please?"
I don’t think people realize the cost if Buffalo retained, if it was only 2 mill a year that’s 10 mill over the 5 remaining and I doubt a first round pick is worth 10 mill especially from a competitive team (most likely 20th or later pick)
My favourite series on youtube
That game was so awesome. I was fortunate enough to be at the game. From the opening pick drop, I was booing at the top of my lungs from the nose bleeds lol. One of the best games I’ve ever seen. 6-0 flames Dub!
It happened a long time ago, but im surprised Eric Lindros refusing to play for Québéc isn't on here
Damn! I never knew about Bure's contract! Bure was GOD lol
3:50 the 2023 1st round pick on Buffalo’s side is missing a space making it look like 20221st
Rob talks hockey, and talks about it good

Mad respect to the orange shirt hanging in the background buddy 👌🏽
Damn that Goldeneye track in the background is so nice!
I would like my background ambient sound shaken up not spinning me right around baby right around like a record baby right around right round!
The return for Fox in the trade to New York is a little inaccurate. Carolina traded the 2019 2nd to Ottawa (who drafted Sogaard) but they themselves turned that into another 2nd and a 3rd that become Jamieson Rees and Antoni Honka.
The Golden Eye 64 theme song is a very odd choice for a hockey video.
It isn't odd because HOCKEY IS A VIOLENT KILLER BLOODY TEAM PLAYER GAME! (even with less fighting and less checking). There is a lot of shooting, slashing and beatings involved!
Thanks for the shirt in the background
I'm a preds fan. I have had too much pain from players not wanting to play. Vesey and Radulov have both destroyed my mental health.
Should also be known, Carolina trades the 2019 second rounder to Ottawa which became.....Mabs Soggard.......Ouch!
Yeah he messed up a bit mads was drafted by Ottawa. But I guess he just looks what the pick was used for
I'm pretty sure Ottawa drafted mads sogaard in 2019 according to capfriendly.
It was with a pick they got from Carolina. I don't remember the exact transaction where Ottawa got the pick... though I guess that puts Ottawa on the Adam Fox trade tree... odd...
so u saw the between the legs goal in the flames rangers game?

Yeah completely, it has nothing to do with their management etc...
I remember Cal Peterson pulling the same move on Buffalo that Vesey did
3:55 - Eichel 10M 66 points in 2022-23 for Alex Tuch 36 goals 79 points 4.75M, Peyton Krebs. Noah Ostlund and a 2nd round pick this year... yah @rob talks hockey you aren't looking good in hindsight here!
The ror trade is pretty good in hindsight now considering they got a first and Tage Thompson. All the other stuff wan an L though

Lol, I was actually at that game, it was so funny to hear!

The Lindros trade tree is super nuts. Pretty much gave the Avs the cup winning team😂
Let’s not forget about Pierre Luc Dubois refusing to play which ended up him getting traded to winnepeg
Tage Thompson 46 goals and 47 assist for 75 games this year , they dont miss jack at all haha
The Rangers Carolina Adam fox trade is actually a really good trade for Carolina because fox was going to end up in New York anyways and they still managed to score two 2nd round picks
One year of Adam fox playing for New York before he could sign as a free agent was enough for them to pay Carolina two second round picks
Rob: and let’s not mention that the 1st round pick vegas gave would be 25th to 30th overall
Vegas: proceeds to miss the playoffs
Jack got validated with a cup too.
