Very beneficial information! But i really think you hit the nail on the head in the first few minutes. The bugs are going to be there. Live with it. Our ancestors all dealt with them without theracells! They covered themselves or dealt with it. If you grew up in the swamp, that was daily life. Adapt, and eat garlic! 😋 Great video! And your wife's ankles made mine itch!
Jason I personally own about 7 different thermacell devices! They do not use batteries but instead use small butane bottles that heat up a small pad that has some kind of repellant on them. The very first one I bought we took to a “Lake Avalon” in Carlsbad NM. First off this IS NOT a lake! Haha it’s the over flow for the Pecos River flume! (A must see if you’re in the area!) The lake is infested with flying insects of all sorts! We were stormed by them until I started the thermacell we didn’t have any issues within 10 minutes!
My homemade essential oil bug repellent works well! You do have to apply more than you do with deet. The best remedy is eating fresh garlic daily. You will repel biting bugs.
I tend to wear short sleeve pants when it’s hot. Just poking fun. Great vid and content. Living in the desert we worry about scorpions, black widows and rattlers. Will be moving to FL next year and this info will definitely apply.
hey Jason.love your content.ever tried crushing wax myrtle leaves and rubbing them on exposed skin? works for gnats and skeeters down here on the coast in nc.rubbing thatbgarlic on your skin nbefore eating works too.all temporary like you said...but in a pinch.
For the thermacell, what I have seen is it uses a fuel cartridge to heat up a repellent mat that goes in the head of the dispenser thing. I imagine it does use batteries to ignite the heating element.
Alpha-gal is the tick transmitted red meat allergy. The symptoms occur 4-6 hours after eating beef or pork. Early symptoms are intestinal problems and progresses to hives or anaphylaxis. I can tell you that without a doubt that what I used to call chigger bites are also larvae tick bites. I use permethrin on my woods clothes. A tip for preventing mosquitoes from biting through my sun hoody, is to wear a mesh shirt as the base layer. It provides some distance from your skin.
Have you panned that creek/river for gold? Also, I read somewhere that Sassafras leaves rolled up and stuck behind your ears will repell mosquitoes. I think that was in one of Eric Sloane's books on 'Americana'.
This year I'm trying a clove mouthwash dumped into a package of baby wipes. I can then wipe my face, neck, etc with them. Seems to be working but I am not in the Everglades 🤷♀️
@@ONThree I make it directly from the bark. I watched a documentary called the happy people, they live in Siberia and the guy made it for bug repellent.
What is your favorite bug repellent remedy?

Great as always. Appreciate the ideas.

Love your videos. Easily some of the best quality survival/prep content.
Wow, thanks!
Great tips see ya on the next one
Resisting the urge to scratch those bites or rashes helps A LOT to reduce the itching insanity. Hard to do but it helps. Skeeters love me.
Truth!

My MR300 doesn't need batteries. I think it is a piezoelectric igniter inside.
@@withoutfurtheradoforever ah, nice. I generally use the coil repellent you light at one end.
Thanks for the info

I haven’t. I had a friend that did. No luck…yet. I love sassafras
Smudge pot i think is what you call it. Just smoldering punkwood and aromatic plants to just smoke.. or fires obviously!
Wht kind of sandals do you wear? you do everything in them
Chaco. I wear them at least 1/2 the year.

That’s a great idea. Be careful on the quantity of drops. Clove can burn the heck out of your skin.
@@blueridgerealtor that's why I got the mouthwash. It's already safe for skin and has other natural oils in it.
I have found rubbing birch oil on exposed skin and in my hair keeps the mosquitoes from getting on me.
Is it the essential oil of the tree or is it directly from the bark?
@@ONThree I make it directly from the bark. I watched a documentary called the happy people, they live in Siberia and the guy made it for bug repellent.
But, do the bugs attack your feet when you are outside wearing sandals? ;-)
Ha! It happens.
