Greetings, hello and welcome!
Thanks for tuning in and welcome to the first episode of our new green themed city - Glendan Falls.
We're playing on the Eden Valley map, which is included in the new expansion so easy to follow along at home. I'm not using any additional mods, or assets - just all the available DLC.
In this series we'll be aiming for one big mega city with some neat surrounding self sustained green themed suburbs. I'd also like to make a green tech center somewhere downtown.
We're taking back the air and reclaiming the land in the name of greener energy!
Drop me a thought and let me know what you think!
Enjoy,
Ever since I purchased this game several months ago you are my go to source for inspiration and entertainment. Your upbeat attitude is extremely refreshing. Keep up the amazing videos!
Glad to watch another series take off! Really digging that natural dip in your self-sufficient neighborhood.
you're the bob ross of cities skylines
I was JUST going to comment this exactly lol. I watch this when I can’t sleep 👌🏻
I lost it when I heard "...If you want to follow along..." at the beginning.
facts
These videos to me are like the Bob Ross of Cities Skylines. Happy little trees everywhere. I always watch them when I need to relax. Thank you for making them.
You, sir, are the Bob Ross of Cities: Skylines. Your happy, non-nonchalant attitude to building and design make this series very fun to watch. I flew through your other Cities series, and loved it. Well done!
to be honest im so happy that u are doing cities skylines videos again
keep it up :)
Whenever you start a new series, it makes me want to go and watch the old, classic, Lakewood again too :)
I just started playing cities skylines a few weeks ago and I immediately realized I had no idea what I was doing!! lol. Your videos have been great to get my brain started. Thanks and keep it up!!
Love the look of the new city. Would like to eventually get this DLC. Your the youtuber that got me into playing city skylines and I use the your start off technique. Keep up the great work!
Really like the way you build cities! The new expansion looks great!
Great to see/hear from you again! Missed you for my daily commute, hope you're still doing the previous series, loved to see you using some mods.
The best part of the city so far has to be those redwood trees swaying in the breeze. Awesome city so far!
Hey Imperial Jedi ! Long time viewer, first time commenter here. I'm loving the city so far! For the next episode, I would love to see more specialized districts, and some curved roading that flows with the land :) much love from New Zealand. Thank you !
Jedi, I've been watching you for months now...Do you ever FINISH a city??
Just kidding.. I think most of us tend to just stop at some point and build a new one... No pressure to truly "finish" any of them. Besides-- Is a real city EVER finished?? I think not! :)
Love your videos and streams. Keep up the great work.
glad to see a new video so soon! love your commentary :-)
I'm so jealous of the awesome stuff you PC guys get, I'm doing what I can on my PS4, and your tips and tricks have certainly helped me look at city planning in a new light. I find myself looking at my own town and looking at how the roads and grid-work works.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks for showing off the new DLC!! Like others have said your entertaining to watch and inspire. I have both the PC and PS4 versions. I'm hoping the PS4 version catches up on the PC options, but still a great game. Thanks for making these videos!
Love the city love watching it grow each ep thanks
A nice version of strategy on how you build your cities.
Pretty sure I got my wife hooked on CS because of your videos, mate. Nice work!
Go insane with the trees. Elven district
+Nefilum now we're talking!
The game seems to encourage roundabouts to solve traffic issues, but I prefer to make bridges to eliminate intersections that are getting clogged. Roundabouts take up a lot of space, and they just don't seem to make sense in a high density environment.
Off to a really neat start. I am definitely gonna get that new DLC. I love the new trees and early service options.
The way this build is coming along im really getting a Hill Valley vibe (back to the future. Think its the big hill over looking the res area. Shame this is a vanilla game, it would look nice with a town hall plaza in the foothills
I was debating if I was going to get _Mass Transit_ or _Green Cities_ next. I like the look of some of the buildings with this, so i think my decision has been made. :-)
First series that actually helped! Thanks
Great video, like usually! Greetings from switzerland
I know this is an old video, i just wanted to comment and say I live in a City of a pretty decent size and on the South side of town almost all the roads are roller coaster like. Its so crazy. Its very hilled over there.
Looks like a great start. I just started a new city and am debating picking up the Green Cities expansion. Let us know if you think it's worth it after a few episodes.
If you had disasters enabled you wouldn't be so excited about trees XD I made that mistake. I (stupidly) put a starting neighborhood next to a forest. The forest caught fire twice, and took out half of my neighborhood in the matter of 20 RL minutes.
I just subscribed and I love everything so far! Looking forward to check out and watch more of your stuff in the future!
Nice video! Keep up the good work
Glad you're back! Just wondering, but why not just stream this on Twitch and cut it up into episodes for RUclips?
Thank you for your videos, they've been really helpful.
I don't know if you knew this. But you can add both a residential and commercial specialisation to the same on district. No need to create another district just for the self sufficient commercial space.
+Marnus van Zyl yea I found that out while playing around on stream :)
Thanks for the heads up though!
When showing off new stuff could you make sure to let us get a good look at the tooltips. Just 5 seconds the first time you use it would be great.
Imlearning so much this is awesome
O mother! How long has it been?! :)
Good to see you at last! :)
another note , i dont know if it was mentioned.. was the new recycling trucks run on biofuel
Just a thought but those tunnels look seriously out of place. Perhaps use curved roads on the hill sides to avoid steep roads?
Great video. Have you thought about a new play series including Parklife?
Can’t do traffic controls on console 😩 you’re videos are so helpful though! I didn’t even know where to start!
Sweeeeeet! Welcome back :)
I really want to love this game, but I just can't.
I really appreciate you making this video.
I'm sorry to hear about the frustrations, I find sometimes that I have a love/hate relationship with this game sometimes!
I think at the core of it you gotta take care of traffic and plan for growth well ahead of time otherwise most cities will grind to a halt.
Hope you hit the eureka moment :)
I doubt I will. The game is just ugly, the resolution is terrible, and I still am offended by the drunken trees.
I debated with the devs a great deal during development, they wanted a game that could run on any system that existed at the time, so a lot of bad compromises where made.
I watched you other series, and I'm quite excited to play the game. Would you suggest playing on PC or console?
Ideally PC, but it's apparently quite the fun experience from the couch on console, game runs well :)
There's tons more options available for the PC too, but you'll need a bit of a higher end computer if you want to download a million and one things from the workshop.
nice green city, do you do live streaming?
M Ridhwan yes he does
does this spell the end of the how to start your city series?
+Brendan lazazzera not at all :)
Just gotta get those saves from my old computer over to the new one. Appreciate the patience!
great. it helped me loads
keep up the good content
finally new city! yayy
I’m a car enthusiast so this dlc is basically an enemy to me....
nice 1
Du du du du du du du du du du ding dong ding ding ding ding dinging ding dong
cooooooooooool
Lol wish I could run pipes without having to connect to each segment
Why did Johann Sebastian Bach threw away his harpsichord?
Because it's baroque
It's funny. Raise taxes and take out a loan........
name roads after us to !
Why did you build a commercial zone by the industry because I don't understand why to place some there.
industry supplies commercial also commercial acts as a buffer between industry and residential plots.
Am I now on your radar for getting a district named after me?
Could you maybe really maybe call one of the roads, endless road?
Oh and I've noticed that putting walk paths thru roundabouts helps a lot! Try it you'll see
+Endless Roadie I love the idea of that - maybe a back winding highway up the mountain?
ImperialJedi yes that would be amazing!
ImperialJedi you're quick to respond btw thanks for that
This dlc look great!!, Anyone know if it will be coming for PS4 anytime soon.. thank you!!
How long does it take for your game to load up mine takes like 20 mins sometimes
How many mods do you have installed? 20 min is pretty insane.
No mods installed but what It might be is that my computer is a little old because once it gets going it’s good and normal but it just takes forever to load
You need water cooling.
Please make vids as fast as you can! Im dying for ep 2 :'(
damn..accidentally bought green cities....oh deary me!! what shall i do now
mind sharing with us your rig now?
Hi will, I sent you a dm on twitter, but can I be a district in the first residential zone you made ?
Next episode can you do some policies
Been awhile
The console s.c needs a update i paid 30 euro's and only got the base game
what is your steam name
Is it just me, but the new self sufficient houses look literally not green... What I mean is that they don't have grass and lawns around them, and the district itself looks muddy
I think it's meant to be stone or wood chips, instead of the usual lawns, because lawns use a spectacular amount of water. Although I don't think that the district specialisation uses less water, so...
oh wow, that's so weird... Because from the science perspective lawn is a way better for a local climate. And I never thought about it using more water since we don't water our lawns here and they grow naturally :D Then again we don't actually have any problems with water here, there's too much of it
For a contrast, imagine how much water could go towards watering a golf course in a place like Las Vegas. Luckily they use greywater and lots of other water saving techniques, but places like that could use a lot of water without really thinking about it.
that's because grass is actually bad for the environment because it sucks up a tone of water.
I imagine this is a big problem in areas with low rainfall, It's just not the whole world is like that, for example in Lithuania (where I live) we have a surplus of water, we use groundwater for tap and every year it fluctuates normally (without the level getting too low). Then there's the albedo of a surface: the grass reflect a lot more sunlight than any artificial surface (unless it's painted white), therefore it is better to use it the cities. That is why it felt weird for me :)
I love how you play cities: skylines. You plan everything so methodically, there's no chaos, everything's in its right place. They way you talk is so relaxing, you're not rushing anything and you're not making any stupid decisions with the services for example, it also is very informative. I'll probably watch all of your cities: skylines let's plays :)
So freaking relaxed with that music
Great to see you again :)
Guys, I appreciate the patience!
I'm currently transitioning into a new computer and have been running into an immense amount of just generic problems with getting the recordings and streams back up and running.
But as you can see the clouds have parted - or at least enough to get some new content out :)
I still need to figure out getting the old saves over to this computer and get back on the war path with our other cities - really don't mean to leave them in limbo like this!
We'll be seeing more of each other soon :)
Don’t worry about it take your time with things I can always wait for a quality video from you no matter how long.
I love your work. You have a lovely manner and actually explain and teach things, which can be rare for RUclips. I don't know the issues you are experiencing with the saves, but if you are on Steam could you go into each one and re-save it as a Steam cloud save and then access them on the new PC?
ImperialJedi lov it❤️
Your videos are fantastic. I almost enjoy watching you play more than playing myself. I was really enjoying your "How To" series. Recent purchased Mass Transit and can't wait to see you implement some of the new options into the city. Good luck with your computer issues!
Loving it :D (this is AdmiralAlbatross by the way c:)
My thoughts: You get a nice population started, then displace the population with new roads, buildings and stuff... pretty much willy-nilly.
ImperialJedi, I know you would prefer to only turn on disasters for certain episodes, and not keeping those save files as your primary city timeline. But in my opinion, it would be more fun/challenging to use the disasters DLC to it's full advantage by turning on disasters in the game options. I share the same passion for my city much like you do your own, and so to mitigate the real possibility of my city failing due to a disaster, I have moved the slider for the chance occurrence of random disasters all the way to the minimum. FWIW, and this is purely anecdotal... my city has been running for several weeks now with those settings and I have not yet experienced any disaster, and have been playing enough hours to have a 100k population.
Waterfall YES!!! Looking forward to the new series :-)
6:23: The unit count for waterpipes, to waste the least space is 22units OR 440credits :) ;)
Is this mape an ingame map or?
I came to say this, CTRL-F'd 440 to make sure I didn't repost!
Teddy it is an in game map it comes with green cities DLC
You and Sips both go absolutely nuts with trees, I love it
Welcome back
+NoobLess thanks :)
So can someone explain to me a way to play where I can max taxes without people saying taxes are too high? At one point I think thanks to policies I had Dense Residential up to 14% without "Tax Relief" ordinance and no one complained for a decent period of time without saying taxes were too high. Usually no one lets me get higher than 12 or 13%
"road too steep" clearly you haven't been in my city :PP:
You are like the Bob Ross of Cities: Skylines. I love it so much. Watching you play/listening to you talk is so relaxing.
I try to play this game but I get so discouraged because I try to make it as perfect as I can but I always end up making it not look good. Then I watch your videos and you make your cities look so nice.
Been watching all your videos on cuties skyline would it be possible for a up to date mod list please?
Keep up the good work
Yes sir. I have been so immersed in this game for the past few weeks as a beginner. and Man oh man. What have I got myself into. Hours upon hours. Of starting over and over to try figuring out the right combination for a successful city. I get as high as 22,000 pop... Then I just get pressured into dumbness. and not quite keeping my integrity of a plan intended. That's why it's a game. LOL. You seem to have some pretty cool idea's yourself. I'm gonna borrow a few if you don't mind. :) Please continue keeping us up to date. Love what you're doing. Oh and a name for a street Fred's Free Form Street. I'll be waiting to see your next video on alert email.
Great start!! I’d like to see some roads & houses built on the mountain. Looks like there is some building room up there.
I just recently got green cities so this will help greatly. Thanks for the quality videos!
"Ohhh Glendan Falls has some great property for me to build my self sufficent solar home!!!!!" annnnnnnnnd GIANT TREES!
Hey Imperial. I have a suggestion for your buses. In New York City there are local and limited stop bus service. Limited buses are like the local but they skip a lot of stops. I think this would be cool for a city. Also, I think that if you mix the new biofuel and old buses it would be a nice variation. I hope that you take my comment into consideration. Hope the city dies well.
I followed your beginner no mods new player guide updated all the way through and loved it. I enjoy watching your videos and building with you. Keep it up!
Great to see you and look forward to seeing more in this series! I sometimes put power plants on those one-way sections leading into the industrial zones because the only traffic to those buildings is from outside the city... unless, of course, they catch on fire, but I like to live dangerously. ;)
I've never commented but after about 6 months (more?) Of watching your videos I figure it's about time haha This city looks fun already! Loving the neighborhood all tucked up in the hillside. Reminds me of my childhood neighborhood "timber ridge estates"!. You're mostly correct that the new trees look ornemental, you could argue the pale pink one as a dogwood tree though which grows wild in forests around me; beautiful trees!
Having watched many many joy of you let's plays I have only one complaint that maybe you can take a bit in this lp since it's ideal for it. Pedestrian paths! You always throw in a few but they're so useful particularly over the large roads. A green city needs lots of paths! :)
Lastly, i just wanted to mention how much I enjoy your commentary. Unlike some youtubers, you have such a nice calm flow in your videos. Even your intro is soothing! Your silly sense of humor makes me smile and the random Canadian/northern trivia has been fun to learn. It took me 6 months to binge these because I fall asleep to them most nights haha. So thanks for the quality channel!
Residential areas in The Netherlands are not build as a grid.
Every time I see someone build a grid like zone in CS, my thought goes 'oh noes.... ugly, so american' :p
I know it's hard to start with on a low budget, but still, a residential zone should be a joy to live in.
-no grid like
-no through traffic
-pedestrian and bicycle priority over motorized
-lots of green around
Glad to see you're back and with the new DLC. Funny how people are complaining that the new "green" housing areas are dirty and brown. When I saw you plop them down and saw them build up, I noticed how green they really are. They are promoting xeriscapes! How cool!!! It's not as pretty as a yard full of grass, but way better for the environment and therefore they are really "green."
Howdie ImperialJedi, My name is Steven Whitehouse. I've been watching you for a while. And enjoy your cities. The number that you want for the pipes is 400 or 440
You probably already know this, but you can have more than one zone specialization in a district. You can have "self-sufficient" and "Organic and local produce" in the same district. So you didn't need to create 2 separate districts on the upper part of town.
Good video, btw
Just got back into playing and I thought I'd follow along, just finished building the area that you made into the self-sufficient buildings. You say that you haven't have any disasters yet and I get a sinkhole appear just above the roundabout -_- just my luck haha
I love that you are doing a vanilla let's play!
With a laptop that barely runs the vanilla game smoothly, watching everyone using a lot of mods like Move It and traffic mods is kind of frustrating. It's good to know, that you can still make quality content without them :)
