from what I understand the bullet uses the coin to ricochet using the coin's angle of rotation instead of the reverse, as also shown here where the bullet goes back to gabriel cause the coin was facing him.
i had a mod in another game, it gave me a stylish revolver that let me throw and shoot coins like in Ultrakill, but it also let me spin it around my finger infinitely like a cowboy and literally yeet the revolver away, the thrown revolver can hit flying coins and shoot to 6 directions and explode. imagine Marksman gets a rework to become even more stylish
It kinda makes sense actually, since the revolver is more of a plasma rifle which can have it programmed so that it doesn't target the owner. This also kinda explain how it could ricochet off coins, since it's only light that bounces off a very shiny surface.
It isn't a plasma rifle. It's described in the terminals as what is essentially a railcannon, hyperaccelerating grains of metal using electricity to the point where something as small as a grain of sand carries lethal energy.

In my thinking, the coin isnt reflecting the bullet, its being pushed by the bullet and made into its own projectile. Split coining, therefore, is when you get the angle and timing just right so that both the coin and bullet get redirected.
