In-depth video. Very thorough. Thanks, Mr. 4K Upscaler! I myself bought an ONKYO TX-NR676 believing I could watch on a 65-in 4K LG TV 4K videos of my sons' basketball games, recorded in 4K of course, using my very own iPhone. NO SUCCESS! After 2 weeks of re-wiring, changing of HDMI cables (latest 1 being the "4K HDMI Cable 6ft - Atevon High Speed HDMI 2.0 Cable 18Gbps [Supports 4K HDR]", investing further on another not-so-cheap 2017 NVIDIA Shield TV Box HDCP 2.2 (with latest firmware to boot!) hooked up directly to subject Onkyo AVR. Still, all the NR676 could do is passthrough 1080p 59Hz. Tops!!! My LG TV 65UJ630V has no trouble displaying UHD quality though when the Shield's HDMI OUT connects directly to TV's HDMI IN (bypassing the AVR) but then, Atmos & DTS-X get compromised (when not viewing iPhone-shot vids anymore; multi-channel surround) making me conclude the Onkyo I got does NOT do real 4K passthrough as claimed unless either a helpful soul here or you yourself kind Sir tells me otherwise & patiently explains to me so I'll change my negative opinion on the Onkyo product I purchased. Do I need to try out more HDMI cables?
Hi bro i have noob question lol i havent tried yet with my 4ktv possble this coming January. I just bought myself ONKYO HT S5805, the receiver is ht494 you think it will work great with sony 4K X75F. Also if you play movies directly with the TV using USB will Dolby Atmos work? thanks
What is weird is that if I put my ps4 pro on auto or RGB, it goes to YUV 422 for hdr games but on my Onkyo amp, it says ycbcr 422 24 bit( 24 bit is 8 bit per color ). This means it's not 10 bit then? Xbr x900f Onkyo tx-nr656 Ps4pro
Did you get rid of your 757? Do you like the 676 better? I just bought the 676 and have not received it yet. Do you think I will be happy with it or should I get the 777? I like the detachable AC cord and HDMI to zone 2 support but I am torn on paying the extra $180 without even hearing the 676. But it would be nice to have a THX certified receiver too.
Hi Mr, I have a question here and searched lot without any outcome and hope you will answer it. Does this receiver supports 4K HDR at 60fps? I know it supports 4k/60fps and HDR, but I'm not sure whether it supports them simultaneously or not. Games such as Horizon on PS4 Pro and Forza 7 or GoW 4 on Xbox One X runs 4k HDR and 60fps at the same time. Thx!
My Xbox One S says I can't push 4k at 60hz. I have my Xbox plugged into the Blu-ray port on the receiver, and the sub HDMI output going to my 4k 60hz port on my TV, but the Xbox says the signal isn't pushing 60hz and won't adjust to 4k. Did you have any issues getting 4k to work using this receiver?
Get a oppo- 203 and test Dolby Vision. I have the same TV and I'm interested in this receiver because of the HDR and Dolby Vision . I heard a review on this receiver saying it doesn't pass HDR at 60fps.
I don't know too much about 4k &HDR but I just watched a video here on youtube a guy go through steps on how to connect the correct HDMI cables to the correct ports on his t.v in order to get (4k HDR) he says his 4k hdr Samsung t.v 4K gets HDR only through HDMI port 1 and NOT HDMI port 2 &3 i don't know how much of this is true but I couldn't help but notice MR4KUPSCALER had HDMI port 3 in use while showing the viewers the niveda setup also i'm thinking the xbox one s was pluged into HDMI port 2 with this said only the ps4 was pluged in to the right HDMI port whitch is HDMI port 1 the only HDMI port that only support 4K & HDR and you can't forget that not only the devices that support 4K HDR like the Xbox one s, Onkyo reciever, & the ps4 pro you also have to be sure your useing the correct HDMI cables that support 4K because not all HDMI support 4K HDR (NOTE: I dont how much of this information I'm telling you is true but..).when MR 4K UPSCALER was showing the xbox one s and the nivida to say there being upscaled to HDR they look shady & crappy the texturing looked way low buget on the xbox one s just say try to upscale with with the xbox one s & nivida useing only HDMI port 1. and by the way the Xbox one s games looks just as good if not better than the ps4 games on any t.v
His problem is simple... He was either A) Trying to find HDR Content on a device which does NOT support HDR content. B) He hasn't paid for the proper tiered subscriptions from his service providers... Last I recall, I don't think the Shield supported HDR... I know some later generations did, but not all of them will....
NVIDIA Shield does support HDR, I have it. try to connect directly to the TV and see if you get it. Check on Netflix Marco Polo, or just search for HDR, you'll find all the contents in HDR. I did experience the same issue with my AV which supposed to support HDR, however it does not with all the sources. Let me know. Regards
"Testing Variety of 4k HDR Inputs" yet only tests two. Tries to showcase HDR on a device that more than likely just didn't support HDR depending on what model/version he had... Then blames companies for his own shortcomings... Bud, you couldn't get Vudu stuff to play because you didn't have an HDR compatible device obviously... That, or you didn't pay the extra subscription fees to enable it... As Netflix requires you to pay for their top most tier to get it... None of this is 'their' fault for your failure on the video... its your own for not doing the research... I swear, each time I see this guy's video pops up, its like listening to a 5 year old trying to explain how a car works... "ok! you put this shiny thing in this circle thing. That's what mommy and daddy do! Then you pull this lever thing, and put your hands here, and it just moves! its magic! its awesome!"......
@shadyshady Never used the NR-777. I noticed it as well on Amazon and had been thinking of picking one up. Which is why I started my initial search. Just like you, this video popped up for me about it. Dunno why though. I'd say give it a shot. It seems to be the 'top tier' from what tiny bit of info i've seen on it. I could be wrong though. Take my opinion with a grain of salt!

hi bro, I have onkyo 646 receiver in order to play Dolby atmos properly, the speaker configuration has to be 5.1.2 to get the real effect.
You are exactly right

Nice set up man! I got the 5.1 onkyo receiver. I can’t find info on how to set up 4K sound through hdmi. Any idea how to set it up?

How come when I'm watching 4k video on Netflix I press the info button on the onkyo 676 display it says 1080i/59 16:9? Why doesn't it say 4k on onkyo?
You have to put the avr into enhanced mode. There are instructions on how to do that on YT
@Joseph if you have link I would appreciate it.
question : where can we get dolby vision content and Atmos content online?
Ok so I the same receiver noticed dipping quality in the video 😢
X box x won't let me run 4k 120hz through receiver nr 676
also can we directly connect HDD external to the reciever ? if so what is the capacity
Shield does not support Dolby Vision "yet". Only HDR 10 is supported at this time.
I have this a nd the sound is great but time -to -time I get flickering?

Hey mr 4k is your Xbox one s set on game mode ?
one question Mr, hdr looks better in ps4 pro or ps4 standart?
It looks better on Pro , cause of higher resolution and higher textures and other Graphical filters
Ps4 doesn't have true hdr
Ps4 pro may have

Onkyo receivers are known for overheating issues and HDMI ports that prematurely blow !
Xbox one x and playstaions do also and led tv's to , nothing last long time

This is an old video I'm sure you've figured out the problem with your setup
