  • Day off today! Let’s go sailing! But first, we gotta get the boat ready...
    In this video I show you guys how I manage to get my tiny floating house off of the dock and out on the water. It starts with a lot of clean up and securing things inside the boat so that everything isn’t broken when I get back to the marina. I’ll show you guys the starting procedure for firing up the universal diesel motor on my Catalina 30 Sailboat and some good checks to do before you shove off.
    AND! There is even a little bit of nice sailing on the San Diego Bay near Point Loma. Flying solo again so I had to single hand it but it was a beautiful day on the water. Wish I would have brought my surfboard... oh well.
    Really appreciate you watching and if you have any questions feel free to drop a comment!
    Thanks!

    This video was very helpful. I am looking at buying a Catalina 30 and this is exactly what I needed. (edit: that said you need autopilot).

    That wingnut you found reminds me of one of the things I like to do when I visit somebody on their boat always like to bring an extra shackle pen or a nut or 2 and leave on the deck and it’ll keep them busy for hours trying to figure out where it came from! 🤡

    New subscriber! Nicely done. I love how relaxed you are handling the boat by your self. I am a new Cat 30 owner (but am not as relaxed). I’d love to see you doing more solo sails, especially docking. Docking and maneuvering in the marina with some wind is the most challenging bit. I look forward to more.

      Oh no I just cut out all the parts where I’m panicking haha. My tip is don’t have too much caffeine before your go and make sure your insurance and tow membership is up to date and you will be fine. That’s a great idea about doing a docking video. I will try to get one out soon! Thanks for watching!

    I have a cat 30 also, one comment, the rear ladder is secured, there is no way to get back on board, if you fall overboard, and safety wise, when you leave the cockpit area, wear a life jacket, Who's going to save you, NO ONE, have FUN

    Good video mate, nice one. Did you put the fresh water option to flush out the heat exchanger in?

    • @OnTheDocks
      @OnTheDocks  3 года назад

      Thanks! It had it installed when I bought it but yes, it’s to flush the motor. It’s nice to not have seawater sitting in all the plumbing all the time. Thanks for watching!

    Do you tension down the wheel a bit before going solo? I noticed the boat tracks straight when you leave the wheel for trimming or tacks. Standing in front of the wheel for sail trimming is a good idea!

    • @OnTheDocks
      @OnTheDocks  2 года назад

      I don’t do anything to tension the wheel. It has always just stayed relatively straight when I have the sails up. Not sure why. But. Ya I have to stand in front of the wheel or I can’t reach anything.

    • @OnTheDocks
      @OnTheDocks  3 года назад +2

      I’m 6’1 as well. Head room is as good as you will get for a 30’ sailboat. Ceiling height is enough 90% of the time. Beds are all long enough. Thanks for watching

      @@OnTheDocks you will never be able to pick music that everyone likes. This video for example.... your better off narrating where you're going, what you're doing. Your videos will get better the more comfortable you become talking to the camera. This will help grow your channel.

      I don’t know where to begin! Lol. I guess to start, be aware that a free or cheap boat will probably end up costing you more money fixing it than paying more up front for something in better shape. And a marina will be more open to taking a nicer boat than an old pile that is going to create a big mess when you work on it. Thanks for watching!
