  • As anyone who's been paying attention to this channel for a long time will know, we've enjoyed the heck out of the 1979 AMC Spirit AMX over the past bunch of years, and it's been one heck of a machine through all of it. Multiple Hot Rod Power Tour Long Haul successes, tens of thousands of miles, and even some off road rally racing. Unfortunately even it can get slightly angry and temperamental. Today is that day.
Unfortunately as you'll see we started tackling these problems too late and ended up not making it to Great AMC Day this past weekend. So here's the story behind the failure. We are very sorry to the entire AMC Community who was counting on us to be there, glad you all had a great time without us!

Sorry you missed the show. But, also thought you were building a new engine to drop in it. Thanks for sharing.

I was hoping to see it at the HRPT. Are you attending this year?

I see you need door hinges. I too have a 1979 Spirit project car. I found that the passenger side door hinges from a Concord are the same as the driver's side for a Spirit, but mounted upside down. The 4 doors use lighter doors too, so they usually have very little wear on them.

Might as well put some new hinge pins and brass bushings in the door before it falls off!

Probably the best video clip was when Derek from VGG garage opened the door and it practically fell off because the bushings were so far deteriorated. Even he was impressed how bad the car was yet managed to complete two HRPT! Tis a shame it won’t be in this years 💔

Saw the number on the door and wondered if you went racing. How did it do?

A guy watching this who only owns one or two modern vehicles would never understand what is truly required to maintain a whole fleet of classics. Too bad you couldn’t get the car there but these things happen. Next time you’ll just have to make it a higher priority 🤷‍♂️

It might be a good video watching it go to the crusher. Just saying.

The problem when working on your car is it's costing you money, unlike making money working on someone else's car. Right??

Every project car is just as "great" as you build it. Most of the class -79 are tin cans and washing machines by now, so any car still existing is a winner. Also, most of them, if not all, weren't that great to begin with. I'm here wondering, if the "Meh, good enough.. Oops" attitude radiates into customer work too. It's easy to say that "We take care of our customers!" But the proof is in the build. If your billboard is junk, all you have to compete with is the price. And you really don't want to compete with the price. That brings in all the wrong customers.
