Iran in the line of fire: President Donald Trump instructs advisers to obliterate the country if it assassinates him
President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran, stating that he has directed his advisers to "obliterate" the country if it succeeds in assassinating him. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday while signing an executive order, Trump said, “If they did that, they would be obliterated. I’ve left instructions-if they do it, they get obliterated, there won’t be anything left.”
Why did Trump issue this warning?
The warning comes amid increasing concerns over Iranian threats against Trump and other U.S. officials. U.S. intelligence agencies have been tracking these threats for years, particularly after Trump ordered the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in January 2020. Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad, escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
