    AE511: Cool trick with the pace block. Seems like that could come in handy, and certainly give some intuition when playing with Simulink models.

    4 years, one BSEE and three control classes later, the dog example is the best explanation of bandwidth I've seen.

    AE511 The only person who enjoys your control videos more than myself is my wife, who is a pharmacist and does not know control theory! However, video of a dog chasing a laser pointer? She is there for that! Excellent video!
    Quick question - is the "3 dB" Measurement just some arbitrary line draw? Like, why can I not define the bandwidth as 2.9 dB below K?

      Haha, that's great, I'm glad she enjoys them. As you know, there are several other dog examples in my videos. In terms of the 3 dB drop, that is indeed somewhat arbitrary. -3 dB = 20*log10(1/sqrt(2)) so this is roughly when the system attenuates to 0.707 of the original signal. You can chose some other line but -3dB is pretty standard.

    So the greater the bandwidth the better the controller can track changes und react to them. The time delay between the reference signal and the outputsignal is also increased when the bandwidth is not suitable, right?

    What if the amplitude of the output goes more than 3dB above the DC gain of the system? Is that considered to be "degraded" in terms of system bandwidth?

      Great question. In general we only look for the minus 3 dB point. However, as the designer, you get to define degraded so if amplification is bad in your application, feel free to use this as your performance metric. However most people define bandwidth as attenuation.

    Hi Christopher, I am thinking about purchasing some speakers, and they have 3 models that have the same components. The only thing that differs is the Nominal Bandwidth. Here are the 3 Nominal Bandwidths they offer for the same style speakers, just differnt model numbers. 1st) Nominal Bandwidth Horizontal 120° Vertical 60°. 2nd) Horizontal 60°
    Vertical 45°. 4th) Horizontal 90°
    Vertical 60°. I am planing to use the speakers in front of me up high as Nearfield speakers, because when i am mixing i cant here the mix from the main floor speakers. So my question is which one should i pick out of the 3 nominal bandwidths. ? And in laymans terms in a real simple way what is nominal bandwidth, and how could one of the 3 different nominal bandwidths would work for my application , which is using speakers for nearfield speakers only. ?

    Nice videos. Minreal is useful. Rad/sec convert to how much frequency Hz as usually bandwidth is with unit Hz. Do you have some description about how the relationship of circle inside Nichols chart and bandwidth ?
