      You know I will re-watch my videos just to take notes on what and what not to do the next time, and I know that moose hit scene is coming up and it STILL makes me jump. When I drive out here, I stare left and right constantly and only look at the road when there is an oncoming vehicle. I've had some close calls but nothing like that! No hits. I think Alaskans should be allowed to get some MAD MAX cages on the front windshields! 🤣 I'm glad you enjoyed the drive Christina!

    Great place to catch salmon when they are on their way to the spooning (sp), grounds. You did say that you have learned to fish, fishing for salmon in Alaska is another lesson in fishing from what I have seen. Great ride, loved the scenery snow and mountain views. Thanks for sharing.

      Casting is the same but the rigging is something I will need to learn from scratch. But I will figure it out for sure! Absolutely love to fish! I wont be dip netting though. I have been to Valdez many times after this trip and the town is absolutely amazing! Well it is when it isn't filled with fisher "people" 😁

      @@AloneinRemoteAlaskaI lived most of the nineties in Maine, both on an inland town and on an island. I found the colder temperatures inland, with quite a bit of snow but significantly warmer temps on the island with even more snow. Warmer = much more snow, I think; somewhat less snow inland because of the colder temps. just a theory... what do you think?

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 года назад

      I would have thought it’d be the other way around. Maybe just warm winds around the island and inland just stays a refrigerator! Well that’s my theory anyway. I know that here, the more snow the colder but I am really far inland! LOL! And surrounded by trees. :-)

    I live here! This has been out dream place to live and raise your little family. To answer the most common question I saw in the comments, the snow will melt around the end of may. The giant piles in the park strips won't melt fully until june. But even with all the snow, we love it here. You're tour was great!

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 года назад +1

      Hey someone from Valdez!! So cool! Two to three more months before its all melted!! 😳 That’s crazy! So some quick additions questions if you don’t mind. Can the city plow snow into the bay? And be honest, was that IKEA??🤣 I have to visit during summer though. Such an awesome little town! You are lucky to be living there! Thank you so much for watching and commenting Mary! 😁

    • @maryelizabethtait9435
      @maryelizabethtait9435 2 года назад +1

      @@AloneinRemoteAlaska I believe they either thought about it or used to plow it into the bay but there were environmental concerns about potential trash going in the ocean. Instead we have giant lots owned by the city (the one where you turned around is one) where they pile the snow. In the summer there's a kids park under there 😂
      And the building is not an Ikea 😂 I wish. It's owned by the museum and it's an exhibit devolted to Old Valdez that got destroyed by the tsunami from the 1964 earthquake.

    Plan on taking the ferry from Whittier to Valdez at the end of the summer and driving back. I think the Moose kill in the MatSu includes ones hit by trains, but that only applies to where the train runs. Did you see those signs on the Richardson hwy? Moose are very hard to see in the dark, as impossible, they show up just as you blast pass them. Still lots of snow I see. We have brown every here. Melting fast. How much was gas in Valdez ? I keep my tank topped off all the time. Some places on the map look like a town but may just be a post office and a few homes, no gas! I always fill up when I can ,especially in Canada.

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 года назад

      Never thought about the trains. That’s a definite end for the moose! I saw the signs on the Parks hwy heading to Denali. One or two other places as well. I try not to drive at night specifically for that reason. Scary enough during the day! I know the snow is melting on my property but there is so much of it, so I haven’t seen much dirt yet. Even of the plowed spots! 🤣 I always top off at the gas stations and carry extra gas. And yeah you are correct about some of these small towns. Drive too fast and you can pass an entire “town” and not even know it! 😁 The drive and the ferry between Whittier and Valdez will be very nice! Get video!!

    Your area is definitely more restrictive than Oregon we get a lot of people down here from Alaska. What I noticed after leaving a big city is that the bank will have lunch hour the post office has lunch hour the pharmacy has lunch hour so there’s always an hour when you cannot go there. Also everything closes around 3 o’clock on Sunday and 6 o’clock on Saturday you definitely don’t have that in a big city. I don’t think we have anything 24 hour but I do think that the market and the Walgreen stays open until 10 or 12 PM but that’s all we have. In town.
