When Prime Minister Narendra Modi walked up to take oath as the member of the House on Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi showed a copy of the Constitution to the PM. This was preceded by PM Modi setting the stage for the government's offensive making a special mention of "the dark days of Emergency" in his customary speech before the commencement of the new Parliament session.
The Government and Opposition are locked in a face-off after the ruling NDA decided to renominate Om Birla for the post of Speaker while not deciding on the post of Deputy Speaker.
Earlier, the Government reached out to the Opposition to arrive at a consensus for the post of Speaker, but the Opposition - combative since its strength has gone up - insisted that the government give a commitment on giving the post of Deputy Speaker to the Opposition.
This has resulted in the Opposition fielding its own candidate, K Suresh, resulting in an election for the post for the first time since 1952.

I do not understand why Barkha is wasting valuable screen time on opinion makers like Tavleen Singh. She claims to be unbiased but its abundantly clear that often she shows no objectivity and balance. She clearly lacks nuance and creativity in interpreting the unfolding political scene. The Constitution is not a piece of art that needs to be put in a museum and make fake bows to. It is a document that encompasses the soul of this country, the aspirations of the poor and marginilized. I very much prefer Rahul Gandhi holding and waving the book in the Parliament to Modi"s fake bows and pretence of respect to it. Lets get off the high-horse and feel the pulse of the people of this country and appreciate their collective intelligence in fighting back to save the constitution.

Tavleen Singh is absolutely correct when she says RG thinks he has become PM .The guy should first learn arithmetic which is taught in class 3 or 4 in school.The total of the Congress seats in 2014.2019 and 2024 is still about 50 less than what BJP got in 2024.Also if not for SP in UP,DMK in TN,SS-NCP in Maharashtra and so on the arithmetic says Congress would be down to 70 .Hence absolutely logical to call RG juvenile and childish

Indira Gandhi declared emergency for what ever reasons and then suspended constitutional rights and jailed opposition leaders but Modi is doing all these things without declaring emergency.
