chris ikoghode It's a shame , modified a traditional tournament just for the business and money , which does not go to clubs . Times and days hurt a lot to the teams playing international tournaments especially for the distances to travel.
There is 24 professional teams just in Buenos Aires, and the smaller "neighborhood" clubs can be even more dangerous. Chacarita, Nueva Chicago, Almirante Brown all have very violent fan groups too. Many instances of different fan groups crossing each other through the city on match day.
Believe me, it shouldn't be like this. As awesome as this looks, it can turn equaly violent and destructive. Many times, after a lost match, crowds have gone out of the stadium vandalizing and destroying entire neighbourhoods.
it used to be different back in the 70's, each team had a terrace, which was like "la popular" in south america and they were filled with true supporters, but in the 80's nasty stuff happened and terraces were turned into all seater stands and even flags were banned during games, and as tickets became more expensive so now stadiums are filled with asian tourists with no passion
When I first went to San Lorenzo and saw the Popular in 2011 with a local girl, it took me back to being a kid in 1974 staring at the Stretford End in the "Old" Old Trafford. I cannot say i did not cry and that every time I go I still cry, the passion of the fans is too much for me its better than anywhere I ever went in England in the 80s because of the Glorioso Butteler, the Murga Brass and Percussion Band that play constantly whilst the ball is in play, and the Cuevos who just sing louder if San Lorenzo concede a goal.

I went to a regular league game Boca vs. Rosario 4 months ago. We walked to the stadium for about 4 blocks, the entire area of la boca was electric. Just getting into the stadium was ridiculous, very little security, and just wave after waves of fans trying to get into the stadium. It took almost 20 minutes to make it in with the mob. Loved every minute of it while also being scared for my life.

My father took me to a match between Boca Jnrs and River Plate, when I was about 7 when we lived in BA. Vehicles were alight in the car park after the match, as my father dragged me out of there as quickly as he could. An Arsenal/Spurs derby is a pale shadow, mostly verbal and singing chants.😂
