Small fun fact about costco. One of their past CEOs tried to raise the price of the hotdog and soda, and the board of directors fired that CEO for trying.

Costco’s Co-Founder Told The Company's CEO He'd Kill Him If He Raised The Price Of The Chain's Hot Dogs, the CEO and Board found a way to keep the cost the same, they now make their own hotdogs and sale the surplus to other grocery stores at a profit.

The $1.50 hot dog and drink has been the same price since Costco started. And it's good! And big! It's what is called a loss leader. Same as the roasted whole chicken. They lose money on it but it brings people in to the store. Here in the US it's easy to get a membership card. You don't have to be a business but it does cost $60 for a years membership. Love love love Costco but you can't use it for all your grocery shopping. Sizes are too big.

I LOL’d so hard when he froke out about the ground beef price 🤣
    This should help:
It’s $3.99 PER POUND - not per package. Those were at least $20-$30 each.
The “Jet Blower” is a LEAF blower.
Anyone can get a membership. You just sign up online or in-store and pay the annual membership fee. Easy peasy :)
It’s called an “everything bagel” because it has a mix of common toppings. Usually it’s garlic flakes, onion flakes, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, and kosher salt.
Chicken and apple sausages are, in fact, as fantastic as they sound.
America is the land of leftovers. Whenever we cook, there is usually extra and we save it and eat it the next day or even couple of days.
The $1.50 hot dog & drink combo is THE BEST. The hot dogs are *DELICIOUS* and you get free refills on the drink.
The pepperoni pizza slices are my favorite - they’re huge and always taste great.
They also have great fruit smoothies and ice cream at the snack bar (also super cheaply priced)

The "jet blower" is a leaf blower that people use to blow leaves and pine needles for lawn care. My husband also uses it to blow the water off his truck when he washes it. The price you saw for the ground beef was $3.99 per pound of meat. The roasted chicken was priced at $4.99 for the entire chicken. The Costco hotdog and soda meal is the best deal in town! There is a reason it is a staple menu item.

The $5 rotisserie chicken and the $1.50 hot dog and soda are famous loss leaders at Costco. The store loses money on each one, but they keep the prices low to draw in customers. The prices of those two items hasn’t changed in decades.
The hot dog and soda combo is £1.50 in the UK, so a bit more than the US, but still cheap.

Sams Club has similar offerings. I tasted them back to back and I'd say the Sams chicken is about 98% as good as Costco. Costco's was a TEENSY bit better. Not worth driving an extra 15 miles though, if that's your dilemma.
Sams gas is also among the cheapest around and I purposely look for a Sams when I'm on a trip.

Costco food quality and customer service has been consistently outstanding for the 25 years I’ve been a member. My wife and I raised 3 sons and when they were growing up Costco was a weekly trip and saved us a great deal of money. It was perfect because the bulk sizes worked for our family size. Now that our sons are grown we go to Costco once a month and for specific items we use. We also go when we are having a party at our house. The prepared food, though I don’t eat it often, is excellent. Like other foods Costco has not raised prices on others have mentioned, the pumpkin pie offered during the holidays also has not seen a price change and in my opinion, is excellent.

The Costco $1.50 hotdog and coke is very famous. The original CEO was adamant about keeping it at that price. Even as an American, the amount of EVERYTHING at Costco or SAMs club still amazes us. I’ve gotten fun colored contacts, filled a prescription, bought tires, a deal on 3 different size TVs as a bundle, done all the grocery shopping, had lunch, tried all the food samples, bought everything I needed for a beach vacation, books, and bought a giant trampoline all in one go.
Everything is bundle prices. In my broke 20s, me and 1-2 friends would all go shopping together and then go home and split everything. No one needs 3 giant bottles of ketchup, a 10 pound pack of ground beef, 4 huge bottles of aspirin, 5 pounds of mangoes, etc. It’s already cheap in bulk, but when you go and buy everything you need and split the bill 3 ways, you get what you need for suuuuuuper cheap. Without splitting the bill, there is no way you’re walking out of there without spending a minimum of $200-$300. But I’ve spent $2000 on everything I needed food wise the first time my husband and I moved into to a new house together. I bought a pack of 5 enormous rolls of tin foil on that trip. It took 7 YEARS for us to finish those rolls!
As a now almost 40 year old mom, with 3 kids, who is the neighborhood mom, where like 12 kids being at my house on a daily basis is normal, we now actually need and use all the crazy bulk items.
side note: fir that doomsday comment, they literally sell doomsday type packages. Shelf stable food that will feed a family of 4 for years at a time in case the world ever goes to shit. They’re literally apocalypse intended emergency food supplies. Food stays good for decades and can sustain you for different increments of time depending on the bundle you buy.

The food is individually packaged inside the boxes so you don’t have to cook all of it at one time. The hamburger for $3.99 was per pound. That was several pounds of meat so the actual price was more for the package.
Some of the things are low cost and some are higher, but Costco carries the higher end quality products so that is why it would be more expensive on some things than Walmart. The cans of green beans would be something that a restaurant would buy. I have bought the large cans and then repackaged and froze the food I didn’t cook immediately. The TV was an LG brand which is a higher end brand. Walmart sells the 65” TVs for about $450, but it is a lower end brand. Still it is a good tv.
I renovated my bathroom and even bought a high end toilet and bathroom vanity. Costco has a great return policy. One other thing, their apple pie is AMAZING!

Costco is very popular with people who own businesses. Because you can buy in bulk for your restaurant or whatever facility you're trying to stock up. Even people who own vending machines will buy a lot of stuff here to keep the machines in stock. But I think most people who shop there just like to indulge in the variety, and have a lot of product on hand. Costco will even donate food to charities and food pantries if they can't sell all of their inventory.

Trust me, Lewis still hasn't grasped the concept of buying in bulk, either on the consumer side OR the retailer side and how it works. Those dogs probably cost Costco .30 to offer and that fountain drink is just what's called a consumable, and every big business does it. That's money a big company already factors in they will have to spend (maybe out of pocket) on things just to attract customers or to present a better looking product. They won't even see that money anyway and those are their own hot dogs anyway. So yea $1.50 would sound crazy to someone. It's an odd concept to him even after all these videos. LOL.

Behind the freezer doors is a giant room full of frozen food that they use to stock the shelves. When you go around to the other side there are more doors with more food. Sometimes Costco is cheaper, but not always when you compare prices to other grocery stores. And the other drawback is you need to have enough room to store the giant packages. I freeze whatever we aren't using to make dinner or lunch for the day. Costco hot dogs are strangely amazing and huge. The food at the Costco Cafe is actually really good. And Churros are the most amazing delicious thing that is made in Mexico. It is fried dough with a cinnamon/vanilla flavor rolled in cinnamon sugar. A real Churro (not one from Costco) is amazing. You dip them in chocolate. Mexico has amazing sweets.

Americans have a huge buy in bulk, separate and store culture. For instance, we get a pack of 20 pork chops and bag them up individually or portion them out, then freeze them. Costco is for large families and companies. If you're single, it's kinda not worth it unless you share a food budget with roommates. Costco sells in bulk when it comes to food. What's good is that you can always ask someone who has a membership to tag along and shop with them, or, you can add another person to your account so they have their own card. My work used to get cakes and pizza for company parties from Costco. Its a simple easy cheap way to feed around 200 people.

Last year I bought a deep freezer to store steaks in. I grill out every Saturday. Yum.
Publix (regular super market) has recurring sales on ribeye steaks or standing rib roast (pretty much the same thing).
I just got notified Publix has the bone-in ribeyes on sale for $8.99 a pound, which is more than half off. Time to stock up.
I have my own breaker knife (cheap online) and I typically cut my own portions. Lately I've been cutting them bone thickness, which is 2 inches. You need to cook them a little longer to get that perfect medium rare. But man, can you get a ridiculously good maillard reaction cooking them that long!
If you have a Publix near you, go look for those $8.99 ribeyes. I know I will. I portion them up, throw them in freezer bags, and deep freeze them.
At Christmas they were selling for about $6 a pound. I bought a ton and saved so much with that sale, it paid for my deep freezer.
Long term strategy there. No regrets.

And the things that they sell a lot of, such as the rotisserie chickens, and the eggs, the found it was cheaper to buy poultry farms and cut out the middleman, and pass the savings to the customers. And they have a no questions asked return policy ( except for electronics). If you buy a toaster and in ten years it stops working, you can return it! They do everything to keep the customer happy. If you buy food, eat most of it, you can return it, and say you don’t like it. They will refund your money.

    FLORIDA MAN HERE!
I don't know what the rules are in Britain, but here in the states, you don't have to own a business to have a Costco membership. Truthfully, I think you may just be assuming that.
In order to get a membership, all you need to do is go to one of their stores and look for the application desks, which here in the States are near the stores exits. Just tell the employees who are minding the doors that you want to apply for membership, and they'll let you in through the out door, and you can go up and apply. It's ridiculously simple: you pick the level of membership you want, pay a one-time-per-year fee, you get your picture taken for the I.D. card, and once they've printed out your card, you're good to go.
The place truly is amazing. I've been needing to go back for a few supplies for weeks, but I've been a bit lazy. I believe this video is the universe telling me to get off my rear and get to the store, so thanks! :)

A membership is about $65.00 a year. You just buy the membership in the store. If you buy large packages of meat (beef, pork, poultry and fish) you can divide it up and freeze it. I typically make large batches (4-5 gallons) of soups, stews, chili and tomato sauce and freeze it in quart sized containers. I don't buy a lot of canned veggies, but I do buy frozen. Same process...break it up into smaller quantities and freeze. The large packages of pasta & rice will keep for quite a while as long as your home is relatively cool and dry. I live in Florida, so the a/c is on 10 months of the year. The $1.50 hot dog is actually very good. Costco is great for stocking up on things you use frequently, especially if you have a large family, or, in my case, entertain frequently.
