    If this is an E&E situation you DO NOT start a fire, especially during daytime hours where smoke would be visible. The site for the fire wouldn’t be horribly bad at night if you put up a reflector, but water is 1000 x more important than food or a built shelter. Leaving the overcoat over the fence would alert them to you being outside their perimeter sooner, causing them to expand their search with even more personnel sooner. Im with search and rescue. I’m a decent tracker. The slides, moss scraped off river rocks, any left remains of a fire or shelter, smell of smoke, cooking food, etc in an area less frequented all of which he did, would have him caught pretty quick.

    They didn't mention hydration until after eating and a bath yet water is far more important than food; if you're in a survival situation and you eat without water, you're done quickly.

      Did your mom have any children who weren't born with severe brain damage. The number one way of getting water when you can't find pools, lakes, streams, etc., is by eating. Many foods, and all animals, have enough water content to keep you alive for weeks.

      He must be a magician..Where did the rabbit go ? It must have done an escape and evade. Me, I would head straight for TESCO, AND HIDE IN A FREEZER. Good arctic training. Or disguise myself as a cornflakes box. I was a poacher in Scotland. He failed to mention, rabbit runs. You can spot a run that a rabbit uses a lot, much like a footpath. That is where you set a snare. I would not have set a fire but ate the fish raw. No signal fires.

    At 5:10 that shallow creek would be a great source of yabbies (fresh water crayfish). As a young boy we used to catch these by the dozen in Aussie creeks. They taste like prawns. I reckon they would be available pretty much the world over if you know how to find them.

    Interesting dramatic film, made by people who knew what they were talking about, but not taking the captured weapon (twice), leaving the coat on the fence signposting your route, starting fires & cooking food in the possible vicinity of a pursuit force, sliding around unnecessarily thru leaves/earth, running around haphazardly over difficult terrain purely try to throw off tracking dogs - at the same time slowing your own pace down substantially & allowing them to close distance with you whilst tiring yourself out rapidly in the process, were strange suggestions for E/E. It's almost as if Davies & Crossland were making a joke film of how not to do it?

    • @cheekboy7247
      @cheekboy7247 4 года назад

      @Jules Vallez the first two of your points is becasue this is a low funded documentary.
      Point 3. He can't eat it raw, he will become sick and then his escape attempt will be ended. In real life, you should avoid fire but if you have to start one it has to be necessary. In real life you have to walk for hundreds of kilometers and you will need food and water.
      Point 4. He has to set traps. He just set them up at day light and sleeps. There is nothing wrong with that?

    Probably not a great idea when being hunted down to stop, make a fire and cook your tea on it 😂

    • @SuperParatech
      @SuperParatech 5 лет назад +7

      Hmmm - disagree.
      In the video, demonstrations purposes only. A soldier would not light a fire that is likely to attract attention. The smell will carry long before the flame or smoke is seen in forest.
      In terms of food - cooking food, meats and starches, the former allows the opening of proteins for enzyme digestion and the latter, the pulling apart of disaccharide bonds for enzyme use. Soldiers know that cooking food releases greater calorific value to the body (not the calorie count on the tin of food you buy) increasing the useful digestion of that energy. This is crucially needed because you are unlikely to eating in any great quantities and the energy expenditure in physical exertion will be greater than normal. You must eat to function.
      Heat also dries clothes and reduces the chance of coming down with sickness. It provides warmth and morale. Being dry and warm makes you feel prepared to go at it all again.
      To avoid an open fire, it is common to use a Dakota Fire Pit which will limit the smoke visible and hide the flames - though it cannot mask the odour. It also hides the site of fire (tracking evidence to the hunter force) and can be quickly extinguished. The video showed an open flame, but this is just demonstration and not likely.
      Whether on the run or not, you need to heat food and look after your health. All soldiers, especially in the combat arms know that there are at times, limits on cooking, noise, odour etc because the enemy may be operating nearby. In an escape, you will exercise judgement as to when and how, but being on the run isn't itself an exclusion but a consideration dependent on the location of the enemy.

    Not questioning the SAS survival techniques AT ALL but why would you light a fire whilst you know your being tracked/hunted? I understand that food and warmth are important but surely the smoke, smell etc of a fire can alert the hunter force to your position?
