So glad you enjoyed this piece from our Narnia collection! Thank you for all you're doing for the maker community! We hope to connect in the future and show you more of our collection of Narnia memorabilia and puppets! -The Logos Theatre
This video is actually how I found out about your theatre!! Took a couple years but this weekend I got there with some family to see the opening night of The Horse and His Boy...we really enjoyed it and hope to come back soon to see another show!!
Oh my god yeah, I knew they were doing it right when I confused the river scene (I know it's not a little detail but it's still a detail) from Prince Caspian with the river scene in Fellowship of the Ring. The scenes with water magic being used, in Fellowship it's horses (which I thought were fingers up until quite literally October 2021), and in Prince Caspian it's a large water man whom I can only assume is meant to be some form of water deity. Also those films make me so damn sad because of how much nostalgia I have for them. I haven't been that depressed from a movie adaptation of a book since... whenever I watched Bridge to Terebithia.
I prefer the old originals to the new movies to be honest, low budgeted and definitely not star studded but there was something about them that made them more enjoyable...
I'd say that the problem with the movie's was people who are fans of the series tried claiming that they were better than incredibly successful other movies like Starwars or The Lord Of The Rings
Right? I hardly see much about the movies and I loved them! I thought they were beautifully done and they brought the books to life in the most magical way! And I’m someone who loves the books and am the kind of person who usually prefers books to movie adaptations.
Hello Mr. Savage. I am so happy that you got the armor. I am actually a member of the Logo's theater Academy of Arts student. I have been a huge fan of yours as far back as Mythbusters and it would be awesome if you joined us this summer for our production of the Horse and his Boy. And if you haven't figured out the sheath yet it's a over the shoulder sheath. Again, happy that the armor made it to you and thank you for making these videos.
Aaaahhhh... Over the shoulder sheath! I didn't think about that, and thought it could be one of the versions where you make a knot first and then use the buckle to secure it (I _think I've seen that solution at least? :-) )
my wife heard the video while she was getting ready this morning, and said "He sure sounds excited today. Then we had a discussion about the loss of wonder in our lives and how much we appreciated seeing people get excited over things they like. Thanks, Adam. We will always be excited with you. Keep feeling the wonder!
yelling at the screen for adam to tie the hauberk laces so the sleeves don't sag so much. Hearing Adam say "you're special. and I think you're awesome" wasn't something I thought I'd ever hear but thank you
I was literally remembering yesterday how cool the Telmarine armour looked in the films and thinking it would be cool to reproduce it and then today Adam uploads this! Perfect! :D
Looks like Adam added some of his own weathering to the armor as well! Got a chuckle when he slapped his chest with the sword and the buckle fell off. Better well-used and loved IMO :)
Hi Adam, I used to work at That theater and purchased one of those Armenta from them. They bought a lot of screen used costumes from an LA auction from profiles in history. Walden media and Disney sold a lot after their Narnia traveling exhibit was over.
Friendly pedant here: the term "plate mail" is a bit of a misnomer regardless of what it's used for, as mail refers specifically to chain armor (maille means mesh). What you have here is more of a brigandine or coat of plates - the two terms can refer to different things, but both may be applied to your lovely costume here. That said, "mail" has come to be somewhat synonymous with "armor" in common use, so there's nothing wrong with using terms like plate mail, chain mail, or scale mail outside the realms of pedantry.
Honestly, is there anything more wholesome than watching Adam unboxing personalized packages from other makers? The absolute delight and brightness in his smile warms the heart.
One of the greatest things about the telemarines armour is the mask. As it portrays an army as a unit, both dangerous and experienced. Giving it the feeling of the Roman legionares and having this all knowing, all powerfull army to behold. Amazing that you got hold of this piece of movie (and childhood, for me atleast) history. And thx for sharing Adam
I didn't think I could be any happier than seeing how happy Adam was with getting dressed up in his armour. Then he did the Mr. Rogers bit and I was so filled with joy!
I can’t get over the hair coming out the back of the helmet… never thought “mullet” and “Adam Savage” would appear in the same sentence, yet here we are! 😄 Adam, thank you for showcasing this beautiful piece.
Love the armor! Not long after the movie came out, I bought a saddle used in Prince Caspian and have used it for years at various medieval recreation events. It's very comfortable, made of heavy, well-dyed black leather over a standard Spanish saddle tree. Plus it fits my horse beautifully, and it was still in great shape, although it bore wear marks and scratches on the leather from the rider's armor, which was probably just like Adam's!
I lovvvvvvvvve the Magician's Nephew comment and totally agree. That and the Silver Chair are my favorite and I hope some day we can see them on the Silver Screen!
Adam, I always love watching your amazing zest for life. That said todays made me smile for reasons totally different from what I would expect from most people. In the video you have to Persian carpets on the floor of a work shop. I can only hope that they are real. Nothing warms my heart more than seeing proper carpets being used as intended. Coverings for floors that will be used. Not dainty things for a wall or that you must take your shoes of time stand on. Things to be used. If they are real, I hope you have explored the world that is teh various makes and regions and the why the designs exist. Again thank you again for all you do and the joy you bring to the world.
Loved the shout out to “The Magician’s Nephew”. That was always the book that stuck with me the most and gets overshadowed unjustly by “Lion, the Witch…”
The sword belt is actually a baldric. It's worn over the shoulder across the body and secured with the waist belt. That's why it's so long. I think to complete this armor, you should make the gorget (collar armor) and demi-vambraces (forearm armor) that further armors the gauntlet cuff. This character likely didn't have the full kit, but other more prominent characters did. That brigandine is legit. Great buy.
I've been taken by WETA's work on Narnia for years, the Telmarines especially, so to see it walked through up close was great! I'm astonished by how much real material they used.
I always thought those face plates were real metal! Its so fun to see all these techniques in action with movies from the past. I will forever miss the fact they never did the Magicians Nephew! What a fantastic series.
Adam, in case you were not aware chainmail is a pleonasm. Maille is the coreect term. Also if you are ever getting a historical maille shirt (hauberk) you want rivited maille that is fitted to you talored. The sleeves shouldn't be really loose at the ends. If you get a coif make sure that it actually protects your throat, and isn't baggy, and naybe has a ventail. If you want some depictions in art look at 12th and 13th century maillie in art, you will see what I mean about tailoring.
Was scrolling down the subscription tab and found the helmet familiar...and it hit me! LOVED THE TRILOGY SO MUCH BUT LIKE I CSNT BELIEVE ITS GETTING ATTENTION AGAIN!
The sword scabbard belt looks like a "pirate" style that goes over your strong arm shoulder, not your waist. Many of the on screen images show them this way.
the armor and prop work in the Narnia films was always impressive to me. I think the only complaint I've ever had with Narnia was the Telmarines silly little microstep march in Prince Caspian. :P
no they havent done the magicians nephew yet. I always hoped they'd do the silver chair. So cool to see this armor again! I love the Chronicles of Narnia
That sword belt looks like it could be a Baldric, a belt slung over one shoulder and down to the opposite hip (like a messenger bag). If not, then sword belts were often made long so you can tie a "Knightly Knot", a knot that allows the belt to stay up even if the buckle fails.
Ya know, a suit of armor from a movie I would LOVE to have is the Necromonger armor from Chronicles of Riddick. Loved that movie and the armor pieces from it were pretty damn cool.
That is incredible! Your giddiness at the beginning is contagious! As a leather worker, I have dreamed about making stuff like this, and I would love to do it professionally.
If I were to guess about the belt it is probably the typical medieval type so you tighten it to the correct spot then you take the tail and go through the inward facing side of the belt then put it through the loop you just made and pull that tight.
Props to the excellent glory shots, guys! Next one day build, perhaps, should be new front clasps that will withstand play? Thank you for all your preservation, dear one. You are a treasure in yourself.
Will any movie company actually finish the Narnia series? Many have started, none have finished. It's a shame: C.S. Lewis has a giant of an imagination and even wrote a sci-fi series too. And speaking of props, I touched the real "wardrobe" that's held at Wheaton College, Illinois. It was smaller than you'd think it would be, but not so small that 4 young Londoners could not squeeze through...
That belt feels to me like an over the shoulder....? Judging by the angle of the frog and the length and cut of the belt. I dont remember if they were over the shoulder in the film.
I watch all my RUclips on a big TV. So, I wish they'd edit out all of the spots where Adam moves his camera around. I have to close my eyes or I get motion sickness every time. Sometimes it happens too quickly for me to close my eyes.
I love the speed at which Adam puts on different types of armor. He’s done it so much I’d wager he puts armor on faster than the soldiers that had to wear this armor in the past. Fiction or real life. And he’s narrating lol.
@@catarinabarbosa2247 oh absolutely. But watch the way he puts on the shin guards. It’s like second nature. The weight might slow him down but I was commenting I guess on bow intuitively he knows how to put this stuff on.

I'm glad that the Narnia movies still get some love. I know they weren't perfect but the little details in that movie were obviously lovingly crafted.
Oh my god yeah, I knew they were doing it right when I confused the river scene (I know it's not a little detail but it's still a detail) from Prince Caspian with the river scene in Fellowship of the Ring.

Magician's nephew would make too many people cry man. That's the one that got me in the feels for sure.
This has become one of my favorite channels. Adam's excitement is palpable and deeply contagious. Thank you, Tested crew. These are great videos.
The sword belt may be a cross body sash style.
It is such a shame that they couldn't make the complete series of Narnia films.
Pictures show it exactly like that over the right shoulder.
Baldric. Aka I have a cunning plan
The biggest kid in the world!! Don’t change Adam! 👍

I've frequently referred to Adam as the Fred Rogers of making...that and a force of good nature.
It looks like he agrees, making me even happier.
Adam: "These boots fit like a glove!"
Me: "Really? I'd have thought they'd fit like boots."
Btw Funfact: The German word for glove is „Handschuh“ which literally translates to „handshoe“ :D

I was shouting "over the shoulder, over the shoulder" when he was so puzzled with the length.
I wonder if the sword belt might be somehow designed to go over your shoulder? It sounds odd, but its length suggests it as a possibility.
I really wish they had done all the books. The Final Battle kills me every time I read it.
They promise but never do!
to me it feels like actual historic armor. it hides your identity well and would make all soldiers wearing it look identical and fearsome as intended
I've been taken by WETA's work on Narnia for years, the Telmarines especially, so to see it walked through up close was great! I'm astonished by how much real material they used.
Whenever Adam yanks the camera around and we see flashes of his smiling excited face it always reminds me of Heath Ledger's Joker in Batman.
