I grew up with this band, and I gotta say I love their change in styles. Maybe not all of their songs but because they changed so did my tastes, and I enjoy music from so many different genres. I probably would've ended up where I was regardless, but man AFI was my childhood and teen life.
It was originally realeased on Myspace Records: Volume 1 sometime in 2005 and then on different editions of Decemberunderground but the band recorded it during Sing The Sorrow.
Love this song, so good and the lyrics amazing. When I to this song for the first time i was like this is the story of my life. Dream of waking is also one of those songs that felt like it was speaking to me.
My first AFI show was one day before my 12th birthday at Fireside Bowl.... there is footage on here somewhere. I grew up on "that version" of AFI... the skatepunk/hardcore stuff they had been putting up, as well as the turn towards horrorcore. I loved STS when it came out but missed the show in 2004 due to Davey's nodes. In between, I played that album so much, I eventually got sick of it. Saw them in 2006 and the shows still had so much energy... crowd, band, etc... Night #2 I believe, they played this one which was a nice surprise. It's funny though.... sitting here at 35 going on 70 (so it feels lately) I have new appreciation for this song... I like it a lot more now as opposed to back then. I thought it was kind of a neat tune, but didn't fit on STS and was a proper b-side. Now I feel lucky that I got to hear it live, since I don't believe they play it very often anymore. I also have so much more appreciation for STS now than I did back then, even if I did like it a lot upon release. The album as a whole is a true masterpiece. I sometimes like to ponder where b-sides might fit into the tracklist, and honestly, as much as I love a few of them there really isn't a way to separate STS as an album. Synesthesia would have been killer as an opener or secret song, but I can't complain at all with how STS turned out. B-sides and demos are still fantastic too.
I started listening to afi when i was 1 I litterally grew up to their songs since 97. at such a young age i remembered all of the lyrics when i was 5. Afi made me an advanced reader and learner. music teachers kids its kind of sublimminal to children they get influenced easy good and bad. music taught me such great thing at a young age. dont make your kids watch that mexican dora make them listen to music.
People talk a lot about Decemberunderground being such a bad album but the only song that was close to bad was Miss Murder and that was just because it was only Ok and we expect so much more from them. They did change a bit, no doubting that but different doesn't mean worse or necessarily better. To me they'll always be afi and I'll always be their loyal fan. I'll buy the September 2013 album and I'll most likely fall in love with it the way I did with every last one of their albums.
is it just me or does it seem that davey has a heart after all?? who am i kidding..his lyrics are always so freaking mysterious. best lyricist ever, might i add. anyone who argues that...well you know nothing :)
I like the live version of this song best. I'm also really curious about the new album, but you know every time I've seen them they've always done a wide variaotion of their music.
The entrance of Jade was when AFI went from a good punk band, to an extraordinary punk/rock outfit. No offense to Mark, he did some great things. But the lineup of Davey/Jade/Hunter and Adam is the foundation that build one of the best bands I've ever heard. Thumbs up to you btw
I finally got a B-side (THIS!!!) during my 3rd AFI concert then Reiver's Music my 4th concert along with a lot of old stuff. If I never get another B-side it would suck but I can still die happy, now.
okay, AFI may not be as punk as they were ten, fifteen years ago, but cut them some slack. they still produce good music, they still are awesome in concert. so they may have change, but they still are the same AFI. they always have been punk, and they always will be punk, so people, please stop bickering.
@1978deus how is it not grown up? highschool football hero? thats about highschool, davey havok have said that they grew out of that era of their lives so he dosen't right songs on things how he felt 15 years ago.
I'll admit that I didn't give Decemberunderground enough love upon release 'cause I thought it doesn't live up to Sing The Sorrow as that's one of my favorite AFI records besides Black Sails In The Sunset. But the more I listens, the better DU gets. 🤘🤘🤘
i used to listen to listen to AFI but then i just forgot about it. now i hate myself for forgetting this music, how could i? btw good vid =] luv this song
@SAINTJIMMYROTTEN well you know what Emotional Hardcore is? AFI has a lot of parralells to other Emocore bands. too bad that a lot of people don't really get the Roots of the Scene. please watch the documentation "American Hardcore"...
Llamanator I'm not sure the punctuation is definitive one way or the other, but I agree I'm getting two separate readings out of this, and . I think it's a syntactic scope issue, if we want to get technical.
im having the same problem :S i freaking love this song and i cant get it on itunes. it was on the special edition of december underground that was released in uk and australia. but itunes dont have this particular album :S LAME!
No. Hardcore AFI was one of the few hardcore bands i think weren't childish. yes it does its a completely different name. and if i misunderstood you're comment its because worded it poorly, so yeah it is. as i said it doesn't matter if you don't care about it or werent talking about it. which u actually were when you said he wasn't talented and he plays simple pop music tht you can play easily. the fact is his music is harder to play and more creative, making him the better guitarist
@1978deus no they stopped calling themselves hard core for the fact that they were not hardcore and that they wanted a change in style, people shouldn't dictate control over the style of artists and bands when the artist/band wants the change to occur, but i do see why people think and say that they are sell outs, but it comes down to opinion i guess. because we can say w/e and neither one of us are going to agree, so lets agree to disagree, no harm done in a discussion
OK so i don't want to start an argument by saying this but i hate how people are always saying bad stuff about how kids that aren't punk or goth or emo etc. cant like afi. i am not any of those but i love afi and have for about 5yrs now. i love all their cds and i actually do listen to the lyrics. so can we please stop arguing about how only certain types of people can listen to certain bands. and before anyone yells at me about this, yes i know there is no recent arguments about this.
crash love?!! i never thought i'd say this but i think i'm jumping off the AFI wagon here. Decemberunderground was rough enough...I'll revel in the glory days
Well, actually... AFI grew up from playing immature punk rock to more layered and complex music. I haven't heard an Offspring song on the radio in years. AFI just keeps on chugging along. Why? Because they grow as musicians.
emotion is important and i feel Jade has more emotion in his playing Mark. he's never done anything he's incapable of.. And thats not the sign of a bad guitarist, if you sit there and play only what you can play and don't push youself you're never going to improve. Also there is no solo in Death of Seasons.. You're thinking of Dancing Through Sunday maybe? if so i didn't think that solo was amazing or anything. but it was better than any solo Mark ever played in both terms of skill and emotion.
I know they're fully capable of doing their old music, but you can see how its evolved up until now, and thats a good enough sign its not going back. Just like any respectable musicians, their sound has/is changing (DU/Blaqaduio) I personally just don't like the direction its gone is all.
Why is everyone always so fixated on what genre they are? To me, they're just AFI, and that's what matters.
Yeah I mean I love them no matter what genre. They are amazing live! (and i typically don't like the genre they are currently in)
probably because they used to be associated with "punk" and that always comes with it even though AFI never really fit into labels
Clearly punk
Some people don't like change.
I grew up with this band, and I gotta say I love their change in styles. Maybe not all of their songs but because they changed so did my tastes, and I enjoy music from so many different genres. I probably would've ended up where I was regardless, but man AFI was my childhood and teen life.
honestly think I couldn't do life without this band's music to make it alright
Right? Kind of not liking this whole every four years switch they did. Three was already killing me.
Cynthia Davis No joke. They are like the only temporary cure for existential torment.
Cynthia Davis Coldplay right lol
Amen
I remember an ex of mine asked me why I always played AFI when we got in her car? (she was a fan also) I told her why wouldn't I? A.F.I. is life.
Seriously a very deep song lyrically to me. Hits me hard every time I listen. Love AFI.
"I can hate myself more than anyone." Such a deep lyric.
FR that shit deeper than the Marinara trench or whatever its called
This song....AND this Band! Is AWESOMENESS... AFI WHERE HAVW BEEN ALL MY LIFE
Remember hearing this just after it came out. Good god it's good.
i love when jade and hunter (maybe adam) is singing "all that i know" its sooo good love the song great video!
This is my favorite AFI song of all time the lyrics just everything about it love it.

This band has helped me through so much.
Fucking same.
Always put this song a smile on my face - LOVE IT
I started listening to afi when i was 1 I litterally grew up to their songs since 97. at such a young age i remembered all of the lyrics when i was 5. This is my most favorite AFI song!
I Love this Band
is it just me or does it seem that davey has a heart after all?? who am i kidding..his lyrics are always so freaking mysterious. best lyricist ever, might i add. anyone who argues that...well you know nothing :)
Decemberunderground was Post-Hardcore. I hate getting into sub-genres, but Davey even said it himself
I like the live version of this song best. I'm also really curious about the new album, but you know every time I've seen them they've always done a wide variaotion of their music.

Thumbs up to you btw
Reminds of my emotions'bout how music can influence and simply feel good!
I finally got a B-side (THIS!!!) during my 3rd AFI concert then Reiver's Music my 4th concert along with a lot of old stuff. If I never get another B-side it would suck but I can still die happy, now.
they wrote this in the sing the sorrow sessions!
One of my favorites by them .
Bad ass song can't believe I never heard it until today!!! Where the hell have I been!!
This is the perfect mix between decemberunderground era and black sails era. Just enough melody and aggression.
15 years later 🔥
Pure fkn poetry and kick ass guitars
I watched this same video in 2008 xD
I still love this song :D
the way i see it, all these people that people say aren't punk anymore, in a way, are. as society changes, so does punk music, culture, etc.
i can't wait! crash love was great, as i'm sure this will be.
I just love when Davey writes thsi accusatory songs. Even this one is different in the sense that it emphasizes on hwo he was hurt by that person.
okay, AFI may not be as punk as they were ten, fifteen years ago, but cut them some slack. they still produce good music, they still are awesome in concert. so they may have change, but they still are the same AFI. they always have been punk, and they always will be punk, so people, please stop bickering.
God damn I haven't heard this song in fucking YEARS. Oh my god this instantly brings me back to being like 13 years old. Wonderful nostalgia.
@1978deus how is it not grown up? highschool football hero? thats about highschool, davey havok have said that they grew out of that era of their lives so he dosen't right songs on things how he felt 15 years ago.
September 2013, they're back!!!
I'll admit that I didn't give Decemberunderground enough love upon release 'cause I thought it doesn't live up to Sing The Sorrow as that's one of my favorite AFI records besides Black Sails In The Sunset. But the more I listens, the better DU gets. 🤘🤘🤘
@skater13sean That was badass my friend, badass.
Davey has the prettiest voice in Punk Rock history.
okay, thts one of my favorite out of their newer songs... took me forever to find tho...
i used to listen to listen to AFI but then i just forgot about it. now i hate myself for forgetting this music, how could i?
btw good vid =]
luv this song
Pretty sure it's "so blank" instead of "show me" at 2:40. God, I wish they'd release lyrics for all the b sides lol
@SAINTJIMMYROTTEN well you know what Emotional Hardcore is? AFI has a lot of parralells to other Emocore bands. too bad that a lot of people don't really get the Roots of the Scene. please watch the documentation "American Hardcore"...
great song
"I can hate myself, more than anyone"
Or
"I can hate myself more than anyone"
Comma changes the meaning
but there are no commas.
Llamanator I'm not sure the punctuation is definitive one way or the other, but I agree I'm getting two separate readings out of this, and . I think it's a syntactic scope issue, if we want to get technical.
"Or do you happily cut. Further in? To sever what's inside, that binds me"
This part speaks so much truth
one of my fave song from them but cant find it on Itunes or anywhere
Such a deep song lyrically!
Great song. like whoa.
I love this song.
Why y'all talking the person was nice enough to make this video you're doing good Sean ❤️
Fuckin' bangin' ass song!
Fun fact: This was a cut song from FlatOut 2!
Davey's an English major :)
You're absolutely right, but the solo in Dancing Through Sunday is just... longer... more solo-like... if you know what i mean... xD
this song is sic but 2:27 through 3:12 pumps me up
oh i totally agreez 8)
i love AFI's Lyrics
Does anyone else remember buying the Myspace Mixdown cd for this single lol.

My favorite song by AFI, i wish it was in apple music 😕
@skater13sean Just for the record, I wholeheartedly agree with neebworld. Sarcasm for the win.
If you don't have this song and you want it i could send it to you.
Davie is an amazing lyricist.
crash love?!! i never thought i'd say this but i think i'm jumping off the AFI wagon here. Decemberunderground was rough enough...I'll revel in the glory days
ah ash.!! intro... take on me ???
this song isso freaking awesome x'D
and the name makes no sence at all but still cool^^
If they added some screaming parts in their songs they would BE BEST EVER!
do you think you could send it to me, as well?
=]
Well, actually... AFI grew up from playing immature punk rock to more layered and complex music. I haven't heard an Offspring song on the radio in years. AFI just keeps on chugging along. Why? Because they grow as musicians.

How can you say you didn't mean to offend him when you said he was really dumb?
