Thanks for doing CCT. Now we need a caboose to go with it. A new Genesis model would be great but even a re-run of the ones you did a few years ago would be nice. Thanks!

@@AthearnModelTrains I can't afford anything you guys offer! Wwwwaaaayyyy out of my price range as well as most....watch and listen, sit outside a hobby shop for a day....I promise you most people buying this stuff in mass live in apartments and drive cars from the 1990s...trust me I worked part time at a hobby store in the winter months after I retired...your not making affordable trains like Irv did that's for sure!
Wow, I just got the GP18 Conrail ex. Lehigh Valley in the prior release and it looks great in now I can get a GP18 in Conrail blue! All that is missing is just the chop nose GP18 that Conrail had being #7498 ex. LV #304
Did Athearn ever re - do the cab side windows to be the correct size on the gp7-9? I ditched all of mine because of this issue but have never seen an update anywhere if this issue was ever corrected.
Are the GP18 going to the correct sound file in them? The previous release had the wrong sound for a GP18. A 567B sounds different than the 576D1 the GP18 has. This needs to be corrected before production starts.
Go back to making bluebox equipment too. Younger people can't afford the higher end stuff. The hobby needs to grow by making affordable products. As I see it they could have a chioce betwwen low end junk and reliable bluebox equipment
Absolutely! Been in the hobby since the 70’s, but inactive for well over 20 years for just this reason! I know this stuff is good, but I have this nasty habit of needing to eat at least one meal a day, and spending hundreds on a model just doesn’t fit in! The preponderance of prebuilt structures, the demise of craftsman kits, the fading away of the various locomotive detail part producers etc. would seem to lead one to believe that there’s increasingly less actual “modelers”, and more plug & play types in the hobby now.
I’m 16 and have been buying the “newer stuff” for 2 years now and I’m affording it just fine people just need to watch their spending habits and have self control
Every time they come out with a new run of something, they tack on another $10 to the price. Been doing it for years. And they’ll keep on doing it until everyone finally wises up and stops paying it. Makes me VERY glad that I accumulated 95% of my collection when this hobby was still affordable.
@@anb7408 I agree. I actually called my hobby shop to cancel an order for an Athearn GP40-2. When I factored in the exchange rate between American money and Canadian it would cost me an extra $100. That's a week's worth of groceries.
I just bought 2 genesis 751's CN locomotives & am very disappointed in the flimsy handrails & detail parts. Also, I have a layout & run many Atgren locks on it & they do great, but the new ones wont make a round without de railing at least twice. When you spend good money for a nice engine, youd hope to get a quality piece.
We stopped making the un-powered versions about 20 years ago for several reasons but mainly because they were not selling and the cost to manufacture them was only a little less than a fully functional model.
How can we see the actual model instead of the artist's rendition? If they haven't been made yet, please hold off on the Midsouth model until you look at the paint stick I have to make sure you have a dark enough gray to be accurate.
This run of announcements has not been produced yet, production will start after the pre-orders are closed on 1/26/24. Our Research team consults with historical societies, field experts and the railroad if the subject is still current day equipment. We strive to use actual paint draw downs whenever possible. With that said, if you believe you have something to contribute to the research of this particular model, please contact us at athearn-productsuggestions@athearn.com
The Blue Box days have sailed but we still do produce DC only versions of all of our Roundhouse, Athearn and Genesis models including the GP18 featured here.
Grand Trunk Western also had some non-dynamic brake equipped GP-18 units as well… I suspect that you could sell more of them (in three paint schemes) than CCT for example. Not to dis CCT fans…
You are absolutely correct, however we want to do the smaller short lines and one offs for those fans and have more future releases with the heavy hitters. Only 350 of the prototype GP18s were built for U.S. Rails so we need to pace ourselves. The good news is that it is only a matter of time before we announce another GP18 run in one or more versions of the GTW.

Do you guys plan to make Wheeling and Lake Erie gp35-3’s anytime soon?
As a retired railroader and now a owner operator trucker these prices are beyond what i can afford!!!

Good to hear, we hope to have time in the not too distant future to make chop and low nose GP7s, 9s and 18s.

Some of the early GP7s and GP9s had some inaccuracies however those were addressed a while ago. The cab side windows match our drawings from EMD.
Will you guys ever be releasing full sets someday?! I love my john deere set from 1998
I hope you guys come out with csx sd70m some time soon ,it's a great looking locomotive
Operation lifesaver
The sd70m has been done in csx?
I was hoping in the operation life saver paint scheme, white ,blue & yellow top

I agree. Prices are going nuts and they can easily make a lower cost version.

So the GP7R is only avail in the Rock Island?

Sorry to hear of your struggles with Athearn Genesis. Have you contacted our service technicians at Athearn?
ATHEARN, HOW ABOUT MAKING THE UNPOWERED VERSIONS OF THESE LOCOS? IF YOU WILL, I WILL BUY THEM.
We stopped making the un-powered versions about 20 years ago for several reasons but mainly because they were not selling and the cost to manufacture them was only a little less than a fully functional model.
Yup they always got excuses....just like everyone wanting kits!

The L&N had them too.
Are they still made in Los Angeles?
The models are made in factories overseas and the SoundTraxx decoders are made in Colorado.
@@AthearnModelTrains In other words, freaking China again??
Are these all new engineered by Athearn ?
The tooling for the GP18s is relatively new, this is the third release of these models.
Yeah, bring back the blue box stuff. Make conventional DC engines for younger people.

Don’t forget N-Scale again
We are working on N scale and this month we have two N scale releases. No GP18 in N however as another major manufacturer makes N scale GP18s.
HOPEFULLY, ATHEARN WILL SELL THEM AT A MUCH Lower CAN BUY THEM. PRICE SO THAT THE MODELERS WHO DON'T HAVE MUCH CASH
