    I showed this to my Japanese coworker and he says those are from one of the oldest sources of soybeans and you got a very good price on them, same as he would pay. He never tried it that way and wasn’t sure how to eat it and suggested trying it in miso soup. Thanks for the work as always

    Be mindful that soy (I've read) is possibly one of the most common gmo foods out there. So stick to organic if you do decide to eat soy.

      Microbes can possibly breakdown pesticides, though I image it depends of the species. Definitely sum types of fungus can breakdown a variety of man made toxins. You can make natto with any beans, I make my own natto out of black beans which smell worse but taste better than soy natto. As a plus u can turn it into salsa after fermentation.

    John, do you consider other traditionally fermented soy products healthy? Like miso and soy sauce, which are likewise fermented, traditionally for years, with a (different) fungus (koji, a.k.a. aspergillus oryzae).

    Fresh natto has live bacteria and I feel like freeze-dried misses that; the bacteria do in fact survive into the intestine when eaten live. I really wonder about the viability of the bacteria in the freeze dried stuff.

    Ok so I have been to Japan a lot and i have tried tried tried to eat this and i could not get past the slime or the smell and i know how good it is for you i can not envision a way to blend it with another raw food i have seen it suggested to ear it with brown rice. Any other suggestions?

      Once upon a time I was like you--tried several times to eat natto and despite being determined to like it (because of the health benefits) I just. could. not. stomach. it. Then, I did a google search--something to the effect of "how can the Japanese eat this f-ing stuff?" and discovered that the secret is to "mix-mix." Mixing the natto somehow helps to lessen the "funk." The Japanese will also typically add green onion, ginger and a bit of soy and then mix. Needless to say, I tried all of the above and also added some minced garlic--and to my surprise it was actually quite good! So don't give up!

    I really appreciate if you can comment on Dr. Gundry's book "The Plant Paradox" and your opinion on plant lectins. According to Dr. Gundry, a lot of plants are full of lectins.

    • @growingyourgreens
      @growingyourgreens 6 лет назад +3

      Every food have its own set of pros and cons. Everyone wants to make a certain nutrient or way of processing food "bad". Lectins are good and bad. In small amounts they are ANTI disease. In large amounts they are not good. Overall, Im not a fan of Dr. Gundys recommendations. I believe its important to have a wide variety of foods so you never get too much of any one "plant toxin".

      ywuzi barajas - I’m not John obviously lol but look for any reputable brand that offers it in the MK7 version as opposed to the MK4 version. Mk7 stays in your system longer so you need less of it making it a better bang for your buck. 150 - 300mcg MK7/K2 seems to be most often recommend from what I’ve come across... along with 2-5k iu vitamin D3 daily

      Conga Pi - Great question. I always wonder about this too when I come across the “benefits” of fermented food. Unpasteurized fermented organic miso doesn’t seem to raise risks, and is what I go with a few times a week to flavor some meals... doesn’t contain K2 unfortunately however. Got to go with natto or supplement for the K2.

    I have made Natto (Lacto bacillus Subtillis Natto etc) found on the straw of Rice as well as our healthy skin...grew it on Fava Beans, Mung, Aduki, Black Soybeans, Goat-Milk as well as several varieties of soybeans/ could not get it going on sprouted beans tho ..not yet.....if you have issues with?? raw food being compromised lifestyle just think of the substrate as soil...comment below is typical of OCD behavior with quite of few vegans, vegetarians, raw food-isms that think of consumption of "foodstuffs" as a Religion...if you are healthy and I am mean really healthy you should be able to handle eating a automobile tire without an issue. Remember you are 90% other critters within that have food preferences.

      Microbiota see lectures by Dr Zachary Bush
      The human microbiota is made up of trillions of cells, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
      The biggest populations of microbes reside in the gut, skin and genitals.
      The microbial cells and their genetic material, the microbiome, live with humans from birth. This relationship is absolutely necessary and vital to all mammalian health..closer you are to a natural lifestyle = healthy microbiome....
      The microbiota is critical for nutrition, immunity, and effects on the brain / behavior. Lack of a healthy microbiome results in diseases that cause a disturbance in the normal balance of microbes and brain chemicals.

    I like natto with kimchi, garlic, and raw egg yolk over rice or sliced pork, or poke, for a creamy effect. Add some nori or wakame seaweed salad on the side. Nutrient dense. Something about natto that cuts my meat cravings, doesn't happen with nuts or other beans. Still eat meat, preferably fatty fish, local farm chicken, sliced lamb or pork loin, and add the natto.

      The part of your digestion system that helps you absorb nutrients from food is the healthy bacteria in your gut. Properly fermented foods are full of the good bacteria. Add some new good bacteria to your gut on a semi regular basis and your health should improve especially if you eat a diet that helps to maintain the healthy bacteria in your gut.

    "They have lots of fiber...". What an ignorant statement. Coocked food has fiber cells destroyed. I prefer my fiber from fresh fruits and vegetables. Beans have high molecule protein that is known to cause auto immune reaction of the body. With this video you lost me. Keep eating cooked food, bro. If i need cooked food there are plenty of other video channels around just for that.

    • @growingyourgreens
      @growingyourgreens 6 лет назад +2

      I agree, cooking can negatively (or in rare instances positively) affect nutrients in a food. Despite cooking beans, they still have more fiber than most foods American's eat such as animal products and processed foods. Im personally not eating the natto for the fiber, I eat fresh and raw veggies and fruits for most of my fiber. I eat the natto specifically for the Vitamin K2 and Nattokinase, which are both deficient in a raw vegan diet.
      Despite having "reduced" fiber in the natto, I must say I did have an excellent BM the day after I ate the freeze dried natto. There are MANY types of fiber that have been identified, and not all are created equal. I prefer to have a wide variety of fiber in my diet. Every food has its own list of pros and cons. I strive to be balanced in my approach. Take it from a 23 year raw foodist, not all cooked foods are bad, although some are WORSE than others. Nutrients in Beans when cooked and cultured by the bacteria are better broken down then other methods. Still some people may have issues with them.

      that is mostly an urban myth/pseudoscience no doubt seen as a threat to the Dairy Industry...take a few minor facts and blow it out of context...soaking them sprout it a bit ...get the anti-nutrients reduced to insignificance..then how you prepare it..or use or etc etc will determine its function in your organism....then don't consume anything habitually.. that is anything...the dose becomes the enemy of proliferation of a healthy lifestyle.

    • @gabrielaone1619

      Gabriela One Lol i knew that, but that’s not the point, people don’t always directly grow boobs by eating estrogenic promoting foods like soy. So your first comment is not valid.
