It has always bothered me that the sons of the emperors would kill their brothers and fathers just for power. I imagine that a lot of them did it to avoid death themselves, but it is something that I can't wrap my head around.
Yes it happens a lot in Chinese history. Emperor has many wives and many sons but only one can rise to the throne. So the competition is really cruel.
@@lindazager I love their history, as it's so vast. Here in the U.S.A we are just coming up to 250 years, so we don't have that long historical record. I watch every historical drama that I can, I don't even watch American TV anymore. Well, unless it's a historical drama, lol! I think it's because of the costumes and the learning new things. Keeps me entertained.
Just a note that history is history, and drama will always be fabricated. Especially in China when the succeeding dynasty was the one to compile and edit history of the preceding dynasty. In a way the US administration is the same. We never know facts of the details, but the systems as records can be trusted upon.
Just to remind that majority of the dramas (even if the characters did exist in history) are not history-based (particularly when the name of the kingdom is just made up). Successions to the throne are not all power plays among possible candidates but among the clans/supporters behind them - mothers, admirals, even eunuch (such emperors are usually puppet kings until they grow up).
This is getting more interesting. Too much suspense
