Not many bands have been around for almost 40 years and are still relevant!!! It helps that they are amazing live!!! If you have not seen them in concert put it on your bucket list!!!
Bowie could have just been a genius musician and artist in general, but the fact that he also had a wicked sense of humor is just an absolute joy, RIP to the greatest of them all.
You don't seem to realize that your statement says nothing else than that you think that Depeche Mode makes "real music". You are trying to backup a claim with something that doesn't back up it up whatsoever. Try this one: "Whoever says no to milk doesn't know beverages because milk is a real beverage." or "Whoever says my girlfriend isn't the prettiest in town doesn't know about pretty girls because my girlfriend is really pretty." That being said, Depeche Mode is great!
Martin Gore wrote the music to the soundtrack of my life. I love EVERY single song DM has ever made. My top three favorite concerts were DM, I saw them on two continents, four countries, six cities. Amazing group.
I was a backstage security guard for Depeche Mode show back in mid 90's in Houston, TX. They gave me strict orders to make sure everyone had a backstage pass showing at all times. When a group of 3 guys walked in, I saw one didn't have a pass so I stopped him. He said "I'm with the band!" in a snobby way. The other guy tapped me and said "he's ok." I found out later it was Andy Fletcher. When the show ended, Dave Gahan walked over to me where I was posted and gave me a concert t-shirt and thanked me for the good job I did - I guess he got word. I wish I still had that shirt but I gave it away that night because I wasn't as big as a fan as I am now.
I worked in music business. Had friends at the Mute Czechoslovakia and they told me Fletch was not very popular with the Mute staff in London. He would behave like this big star. The other band members were very friendly, very normal.
Oh the irony, Fletcher playing the part of bertie bigballs, when his bandmates appear to have carried him for decades. Martin and Dave seem very down to earth.
@@smalfie1214 I worked for 7 years for Warner Borthers. Before meeting a big star (Alanis, Phil Collins, AC/DC, R.E.M.) I always felt very nervous. But they were usually very very nice. It´s those who wanna be like them that like togive you a hard time. For the Czech music awards we managed to bring in R.E.M. and Cher at the same time for a promotional performance at the Awards. We were 4 people, 2 taking care of the band, 2 taking care of Cher. I was responsible for her press conference - a fucking nightmare coz I had to make sure no one asked about plastic surgery.Of course, the first question was asked by an idiot from a tabloid. I have prepared a couple of questions for the translator to ask just in case. There was no personal contact with Cher. She said, thank you when we welcomed her and thank you and good-bye when leaving. Spent most of the time in her hotel. Then I receive a call from the R.E.M. team. They were having dinner with the band. We went there with Cher´s manager who was a very nice guy. Man, I was nervous again but R.E.M. were so nice, made all the stress go away. Then I ran out of my cigarettes. Michael Stipe noticed and offered to roll a tobacco cigarette for me. And he would do it for the rest of the night. At the end they invited allof us to Berlin to Waldbuhne to see their gig. Once i fucked up. David Byrne was playing Prague and I was responsible for his press conference. I had prepared everything, then I arrived at the wrong hotel. I arrived at the press conference late. David Byrne and his manager were cool about it. They said, "relax, man, it happens". A UK band Morcheeba were big at the time and they did pretty well in Czech republic. Their guitar player invited me for sushi. I drove the singer and her two kids to a festival outside Prague once. She rolled a joint and asked me to smoke it with her.I say, hey I am driving. She says, but you do smoke weed, right." Affirmative. Have you ever driven stoned. Affirmative. She says, I know you are a good driver so join me. So I did. She liked the stuff. You see, everytime Morcheeba were to come over I was the one getting ganja for them. I even had a dinner with Anton Corbijn once. At a friend´s house. This friend used to be in charge of the Depeche Mode fan club magazine Bong and a friendof Anton´s. We were only 5 people at her house at the dinner. Anton told me a lot of interesting things about Depeche Mode. The most interesting was a comparison between DM and U2. Anton said U2 had been obsessed with being the biggest band in the world. Depeche could have been much more commercially sucessful but they didn´t fucking put much effort to it. Also,Anton said that had any of U2 had a drug problem the rest of the band would have stopped everything and come to him and be there to help him. A catholic mentality. Depeche have this protestant, cold, everybody responsible for himself roots. Also, the diference between doing videos for DM and U2. DM are given Anton´s ideas. They do whatever they are told and then let Anton work. On the other hand, a U2 video is nightmare. Bono is a control freak and drives Anton nuts because of 2 seconds in the video. I asked Anton the big question, "what is Fletch´s jonb in the band?" He is Martin´s best mate", replied Anton. That is it. I also was lucky to have a 20minute chat with Alan Wilder in 2010. He was doing a radio interview for a local independent radio station. The radio started in 1990 and since then managed to be totally independent. No playlists. Every DJ plays whatever he wants. They have a stable listenership of about 40k. I thought, those surely didn´t think of documenting Alan Wilder´s in the studio. So, I give thema call and say, hey,I can come and take some pictures. Both radio DJ´s interviewing Alan said he was a very intelligent, very down-to-earth, articulate..just a pleasure to do an interview with. Here are my pictures, pls, don´t critisize them, I am an amateur: www.depechemode.cz/aktualita/alan-wilder-radio-1/

I remember watching this a couple years ago. such a great time. watching it again to remember Andy Fletcher. still can't believe he's gone. it's going to be weird hearing a new Depeche mode album and seeing a tour without him.
I saw a bit of that German TV broadcast Dave mentioned, it was probably in 1982. Dave was singing "See You" with a chicken in his lap! You can find it on RUclips :-)
Songs of Faith & Devotion created during a difficult time for the band is a masterpiece. DM never fails! I love this band so much. They are the soundtrack to my life.
Yesss! I know what you mean. He's just that humble and modest. He must not have a jealous bone in his body because all of his songwriting glory most times is thought to be Dave's. I LOVE all the songs that Martin lead sings on and makes me always wonder why he didn't sing more. But then again he was always more on the shy side.
Seeing them on a TV interview.... I am still stunned I saw these 3 in person, literally 3 feet from me, eating lunch, walking past me in a hotel and getting into the black Suburban. I was speechless. What a great experience.
That made me like them even more, especially Dave. He was very relatable and down to earth. I am nuts about him as an entertainer. I could watch him sing and move around the stage for hours! I like the other 2 very much also and I love Ricky! He is a fearless dude to call Hollywood out the way he does!😄The interviewer was really good too!
Why can't all TV interviews have the same chill, respectful vibe that produces relaxed and funny conversations like this? Guess we're not all Scandinavia ;)
Martin is the true musician, the silent one, he’s not present, he’s thinking of making music. Dave Gahan is looking like John Waters more and more everyday,
My fav band is the Cocteau Twins, can't help that. However, Depeche Mode is the band of my soul. Words I speak, music I feel. My wardrobe is predominantly black because of this band and many dreams began as I drifted off to sleep with these eternally deep, sweet and sour, meaningful, evergreen lullabies
Depeche Mode is the band of my life. I've been listening to her since I was a teenager in the 80's. In 1988, a miracle happened and this band performed in communist Czechoslovakia. 250,000 people wanted to visit the concert and I managed to be among the 13,000 lucky ones.
Love this band since my preteens in elementary/middle school where I came across black celebration accidentally and became a huge fan and getting into many 80’s and goth sub genres after. So sorry to see Andy go, still in shock and hasn’t hit me. Each of the members plays a part and is just as crucial for the band and sound and persona. I know it may be silly and a stretch but I’m still holding on to the idea of being blown away someday by Alan coming back or at least making an album together back with the boys if not as a member again. With Andy gone, the idea is left more ominous and a larger stretch. :( Alan was so integral for the DM sound that rose then to fame faster than how they were heading. Andy was the force that held the band together and they looked up to. Martin and Dave we all know and love. But the band ain’t the same without any of the 4. Different, respected and still loved but not the same.
Good on you for getting rid of the negative crap in your life, Dave. You've come a long way, mate, and you've got so much good work to show for it. I had no idea Andy Fletcher was such a good raconteur!
I used to Work With Dave Gahan's Ex Father in Law When He Was Married to His Daughter ..... have Always Loved Depeche Mode ... coming From the same County of Essex and only 8 miles From Where Dave Gahan Grew up, Absolutely still in love With Them x
With me, decade after decade, year after year, day after day and occasionaly, a few times a day, Depeche Mode songs escape the mouth...they entered the brain, somewhere in the past, did their work, filled the heart with joy and strength, I guess...and I'm not capable of pointing out any moment in the future, this is about to stop.
When I was in high school, back in 80s Alabama, everyone made fun of me for liking this weird new band, and would say things like "that aint even real music". Now look, I couldnt be more proud of these guys for taking on the world and making such a statement.
Felt very emotional watching this. Great interview, with a great band. The RG interjections, very much supported by the David Bowie stories, added greatly to this wonderful interview.
Its great to see a bunch of down to earth English blokes who you could easily just get on great with in a pub and have a good laugh and they all just happen to be one of the greatest bands ever and one of the greatest comedy writer/performers ever. I love the easy goingness between them all. They just get each other like a lot of us Brits abroad when together.
I've seen more clips of (t)his talkshow and he is one of the best interviewers around! He remind me a lot of Craig Ferguson who also had the tallent to let the moment take them anywhere. Nothing is forced, no hidden agenda's, no inappropriate questions. Guys like these are very rare these days (Unfortunately)
I met Dave Gahan (with a couple of unknown friends) at the concert venue "Rockefeller" in Oslo many years ago (probably in 1986). We both wanted to see Lloyd Cole and The Commotions. He got in touch and asked nicely if I liked the show and of course I did. Lloyd Cole was a big name at the time. We talked a bit about Lloyd Cole and The Commotions and then he invited me for a beer. A very pleasant experience and we got along well. There was a bit of talk about Norwegian girls and how to get in touch with them (boy talk), but mostly about Lloyd Cole, Depeche Mode and Oslo/Norway in general in relation to the way of life, being young etc. I experienced Dave Gahan as a pretty likeable guy and when you think about the huge success he and Depeche Mode have enjoyed later, it's a bit funny for me to have talked to him relatively shortly before it all exploded in the US with the live album "101" in 1989 :) ruclips.net/video/-94cMzNcEUU/видео.html

I saw a bit of that German TV broadcast Dave mentioned, it was probably in 1982. Dave was singing "See You" with a chicken in his lap! You can find it on RUclips :-)

They are like a fine wine just get better and better with age. And Ricky on this is a win, win to watch :)
Great to see Depeche Mode all grown up, sensible and wise... and still geniuses
Dave's laugh/claps are joyful!
Songs of Faith & Devotion created during a difficult time for the band is a masterpiece. DM never fails! I love this band so much. They are the soundtrack to my life.
Martin seems an incredible spiritual person. I just get that vibe...
Martin is the leader. I didn't realize that until recently. Have loved DM since the 80's and just now know Martin is at the head of it all.
I was in love with these back in the 80s they were a BIG part if my party lifestyle back then.Greetings from Liverpool UK👍❤
Seeing them on a TV interview.... I am still stunned I saw these 3 in person, literally 3 feet from me, eating lunch, walking past me in a hotel and getting into the black Suburban. I was speechless. What a great experience.
So jealous.
"Aliens"............Martins sense of humour right there!
One of the longest surviving band in the music history. They still make a good music and their performances is like its theirs prime
This amazing interview with my favorite band and my favorite comedian on the my favorite talk-show. Perfection
Dave will always be handsome no matter what age he is!
Rock on Depeche 👏👏👏👏👊👊✌✌✌✌✌ You're awesome!!! Speak your mind!!! We need you!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Why can't all TV interviews have the same chill, respectful vibe that produces relaxed and funny conversations like this? Guess we're not all Scandinavia ;)
They are still so grounded, funny how Martin hardly ever speaks.. and he writes most of the music
Martin is the true musician, the silent one, he’s not present, he’s thinking of making music. Dave Gahan is looking like John Waters more and more everyday,
I love Dave's smile. Her beauty and charm have not diminished at all with age.
Her ... WTF?!?
What a lovely thing seen them all together after so many years and situations... DM for ever!!
Dave’s red boots! He was always such a style icon 💕
Good interview.
Good to see an intelligent conversation for a change.
Frank and forthright, with the relief from Ricky.
Great guys great band..powering on to 40 years. .
Depeche Mode is the band of my life. I've been listening to her since I was a teenager in the 80's. In 1988, a miracle happened and this band performed in communist Czechoslovakia. 250,000 people wanted to visit the concert and I managed to be among the 13,000 lucky ones.
This is the best interview I’ve watched for ages, regardless of the band even though I love Depeche Mode.
Don’t know why it hasn’t got more views?
We're so glad to hear you think so, thank you for watching and commenting!
I have always liked the sound of the songs of this band. Since I was a teenager. I live in Brazil.
I wish that the powers that be could find an interviewer that really knows how to talk to these guys. DM is the greatest of all time.
Depeche Mode & A-ha .....
mis bandas Favoritas 👍🎹🎵🎶❤❤❤
DepecheMode ever ever ever! This is my best Band in my live. ❤❤❤
Big Bas huh!............ used to see them at the Goldmine in canvey before they formed
@SC - 05PN - Burnhamthorpe PS (1156) You wanted to add some little words or some????? 'watchit i' won't satisfie me at all!!! :-} ;-} ;-}
Love this interview but you need to put Ricky Gervais in the header too! THIS IS GOLD!
tyronerodgers who?
The Mode + Gervais = instant like
My favourite band and my favourite comedian in the same video. Now I can die happy.
My favorite band!! Love them!!
They're geniuses but at the same time humble and sincere... Just awesome!
When I was in high school, back in 80s Alabama, everyone made fun of me for liking this weird new band, and would say things like "that aint even real music". Now look, I couldnt be more proud of these guys for taking on the world and making such a statement.
As a teen (back in the early 90s) in Alabama, I can feel your struggle.
Everyone to called me depressed mode at school… and depeche mode has outlived them all, but I’m still going strong and I’m still a massive fan 🙌
If you've come across this, it's really worth watching the whole thing. It's excellent.
Does Martin ever NOT look nervous?? LOL
Well, he's a shy guy. Someone else usually speaks for him in these band interviews.
Lol
Felt very emotional watching this. Great interview, with a great band. The RG interjections, very much supported by the David Bowie stories, added greatly to this wonderful interview.
Essa banda veio do espaço sideral! Está além de seu tempo. Melhor do mundo.
Depeche Mode The best ever!
Its great to see a bunch of down to earth English blokes who you could easily just get on great with in a pub and have a good laugh and they all just happen to be one of the greatest bands ever and one of the greatest comedy writer/performers ever. I love the easy goingness between them all. They just get each other like a lot of us Brits abroad when together.
the best band of world
Cesar mode Tristan can't agree more
Johnas99 Rammstein made me a DM. Fan.
Dave is Great. period
Wow! Helt fantastisk!
I'm always in a great mode when I listen to Depeche
THEY were / are the soundtrack of my life!
Love them with Alan Wilder. He was the backbone of the band.
Just acknowledge this sad notice and let me in a very bed start of a week ...Rest in Peace angel of music and thank you very much for all the joy you give us through your beautiful art!
I love this band, I love it, but I can´t draw the complete picture since Alan isn´t there. Depeche Mode is so good, but with Alan they were awesome.
what nice guys these are...i sit here the whole vid with a big smile..these 3(4) men where the soundtrack of my life in the 80s till the 90s...what a great time it was
my fave band. yes I'm from 80s .
My older sister used to love depeche mode, I wouldn’t call my myself a die hard fan, but have recently listened to their back catalogue, and they are amazing. Reminded me of many tunes that I’d already heard but not appreciated at the time. They seem like really cool nice people too
What an awesome classic interview
"You eventually find something you're good at". Words to remember when feeling a bit lost!
