I teared up at the scene with Mrs Gilford. A few years ago, my family helped a neighbour when she lost her little brother. Remembering always makes sad.
Thats so messed up molly isn't immature or selfish she just wants her life back! Jills the stuck up one all she cares about is being more mature than molly.
I think Jill was just frustrated because Molly did not understand the reality of why Emily was really staying with them. When Molly just assumes Emily was a Princess because she was from England, it probably upset Jill. Emily really was in America to get away from the London Blitz taking place at the time, maybe Jill was upset because their dad was in London too. She may have been worried about him. But I definitely agree, she should have been nicer to Molly the way she said it.
@@katiejohnston988 she has been like that since the beginning of the movie... Her goal is always to somewhat upstand molly and I wonder if it’s cause she is favored by her dad the most. I feel it’s cause of jealousy ...
It's Just so sad seeing all of those British Children in that Movie Newsreel, being separated from their Parents, You just can't help but feel sorry for them.
@Alex Rolleston He died in the war because he was doing his duty for his country. This movie is about World War 2 and a casserole is what you do to help a family in a small way during a very hard time. If someone in your family was out in World War 2 you would hang a blue star on the flag on your door and if the someone in your house died in World War 2 you would change the star to gold.
I've noticed that in the Grace, Samantha, and Molly movies, the characters who are most related as the main girl's best friend, is the one who shares a room with the main character at some point.
@Scoutpower1 You mean the Addy movie from 1996 (with Hope Cervantes (Tosha from Barney and friends) as Addy) and the Josefina Movie from 2010 (with Anneliese Michaels (Legend of Loodapog) as Josefina Montoya)?
Very sad. Plus he was her only child and her husband died when Johnny was only 10. The poor woman was very lonely which is why she talked about Johnny all the time, just like Molly’s mom explained.
I know. It was so sad how not long before her fiancé was killed, she was telling Molly how excited she was to marry him when he got back. She obviously really loved him, especially when she said she’d marry Tom even just on the front porch with the milk man as their only guest. This is how I feel about my fiancé too, we’re getting married next summer. Wonder if Miss Campbell was ever able to move on and marry someone else after she lost Tom. I’d like to think she did, but who knows?
It's so sad how Emily was embarrassed about her real life. So she lied to Linda, Susan, & Molly. Then later in the movie Molly finds out how Emily's life was really like.
Yes I agree. I feel like Molly’s friends sort of forced Emily to lie about her real life. They kept asking her so many questions about if she knew the princesses and all. Molly at least had the common sense to know that it would be the same as asking a young American girl if she knew Eleanor Roosevelt. But then again, they were just kids and did not know better.
Made me so sad when Mrs. Gilford’s son and Miss Campbell’s fiancé were both killed fighting overseas. It definitely began to make everything seem more real. It made you realize how any of the men killed in WW2 were people’s sons, husbands, fathers, brothers, nephews, fiancés, you name it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Same!!! I feel like this scene was the beginning of Molly’s great maturity in the film. She realized the importance of giving back and reaching out to help others during difficult times. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
HOLY SHIT i thought i would never find this, I'm Anthony, the boy who gives his seat up at 11:45. It's awesome how they used my real name too. Memories...
I think Molly is really sweet. She's one of my favorite american girls. But her older sister is such a brat. Just because she's younger, Jill think's Molly's immature. She is not immature. She just misses her father. Also, I like that her younger brother is really patriotic. I think our generation has a lot to learn from Americans during WWII. Like if you agree!
I know why everyone says Molly is a brat, and she is, but I understand her viewpoint. I don't have a dad, but if I did, I wouldn't want him to go either, and I certaintly wouldn't like sharing my room with someone like Emily. The war was across the ocean from her, so it was hard to imagine what it was really like.
I don’t think Molly was a brat. Just a young girl growing up during a difficult time who had the same interests & dreams as any young girl would. She was, also, the youngest in her family so she probably was a little more spoiled in some ways being the baby of the family. It’s very obvious too that she was her dad’s little girl. She looked just like him and had quite a similar personality.
It's cute how they are fawning over poor Emily. I'm still trying to figure out how an aristocratic girl comes to a middle class home in a small town, but not everything can be realistic!
She's not really aristocratic. She just said that because she was afraid the kids wouldn't like her and she thought that saying that would make them want to be her friend. She was just an ordinary girl living in London. Her family sent her to America to keep her safe from all the bombings that were happening in London.
They really had us crying in 2nd and 3rd grade. I was a little younger than moly is when I first saw this movie- I borrowed the dvd from my at-the-time bestfriend because we couldn’t afford those dolls when I was a kid and she had one and I guess it was this one. Actually a lot of the girls my age had them except for me. But this was my nickname seeming that I “looked like” her; I had the same wire frame glasses and wore my hair in 2 braids like this every day. And the school uniforms we had to wear in catholic school made the look. I was always the one that wanted to volunteer and stand out. And my father was working in new York while we were here in Pennsylvania, so sometimes we’d only see him once a month. That was very hard for me at the time. So then when I saw this I related to it religiously. Well now I still wear those wire rim glasses and my bestfriend is from England and she calls me a “yank” often . Things just don’t change I guess. Anyways, I have to say I still enjoy this movie as much at 18 years old as I did when I was 8.
Yeah, but you can't expect a 10 year old to be more mature? Sure, she really act less spoiled and bratty. However, her dad is away and she really misses him, and I gather she is closer with her dad than mom (in the beginning of the movie). Emotions do tend to make people act differently. I could be wrong, but that's my opinion. I don't expect her as a 10 year old to act like an 18 year old.
"She's stuck up and used to servants and fancy clothes" Dude have you stopped and wondered WHY she's coming to stay with you? She probably doesn't have anyone, come on. Stop judging her and try to be kind? Please?
a lot of kids don't realize that where we had air raid WARNINGS England was under constant bombardment by the Germans - they had to run to air raid shelters when their sirens went off -- and people by the thousands who could afford to sent their kids overseas or to the English country side which was safer than the cities - the Germans were trying to cripple the weapons factories and shipping industries in the cities but the countryside was less often hit - it was a living nightmare
@TheAglover26 - Yeah, and for some reason Molly kinda' looked like a female Harry Potter or even Myrtle. Add the fact that the latter was born around the same time as McIntire and you'll get my point.

omg yes!!!! I kind of hate Jill just because shes 14 doesent meanshe has to be stuck up
Well I agree that she isn’t immature but at some parts she is. Like 99.5% mature. There are some moments where she slips up and we all do
I think the sad thing is a lot of children in this time had to grow up so fast.
I think Jill was just frustrated because Molly did not understand the reality of why Emily was really staying with them. No one does, but life doesn’t care. Thats the point of telling a story about a child during ww2.
During times of wore people are expected to grow up faster.
I cried so hard when mrs gilfords son died

Where is Molly's little brother, Brad?
That's what i thought
I thought the same thing. He was in the books but he's not in the movie.
He was around 4/5 years old in the books and wasn't a major character, so I guess they didn't think it was worth putting him in the movie.
In the books, Molly has two brothers named Brad and Ricky and a sister named Jill. In the film, she only has a brother and a sister, like I do.

how come the children of England had to be separate from their parents? I mean, why couldnt their mothers at least go with them?
Hi, I know it's been 8 years, but thought I'd try to answer the question anyway. Likely, the mothers were busy working in factories like Molly's mom.
LadyEvilest thank you for replying!
Children were sent away to the countryside and overseas for their own protection. The mothers were most likely working for the war effort.
I was in a play Molly and I was Molly it was a lot of fun
