I would love to come across your kids when they're all grown up. I can tell that they would tell me that they have had just the best upbringing. Love this video despite it making me tear. We lost our eldest a few months back from an asthma attack at home and it will be his 13th birthday on the 17th Dec and will be the first Christmas without him. He was such a giving and caring boy and so that his siblings will pick out all the gifts he would have loved and loved to give away and give them to kids less fortunate so this will be a new Christmas tradition we will be doing and doing it in his name.
Some great ideas. A couple of our family traditions: we were allowed to open one gift under the tree on Christmas Eve; and my brother and I had to hand out all the presents under the tree to each person before we were allowed to open anything. Also our stocking was a leg of my mum’s tights, left either at the end of the bed or outside the bedroom door. 🤣🤣
Love these Laura. We did the handing out presents thing and lvoed it. Love the idea of opening a gift on christmas eve too- that's cute. That wouldn't work in our family though because my daughter's birthday is on Christmas Eve so we have to make that day more about her. x
Lovely ideas! We always drive to a street called Summerhayes in Milton Keynes. The whole street completely decorates their houses with hundreds of lights. They then have charity boxes that you can donate to. They’ve raised thousands for Willen Hospice over the years. Even nearby streets have started decorating now. Always my favourite Christmas tradition! X
That sounds amazing, we found a really good place not too far away from us last year. It was just one house but it was literally insane! That street near you sounds amazing, we aren't *that* far away from MK i wonder if we should make the trip! x
Katie Ellison I think the kids would love it on a Saturday evening as a treat or something if you aren’t too far. You have to park a couple of streets away as it’s too busy to park on it. I love it when someone walks into the street as you hear them go ‘WOW’ or ‘WOAH’. I think it’s purely because of the sheer number of houses that join in. I’ve found this RUclips video of it from last year ruclips.net/video/vlSTXrNyqd4/видео.html - it really really doesn’t do it justice, but kinda gives you a taster! X
Christmas eve my dad used to take me to Morrisons to get a few bits that we Still need for christmas day. When me and my sister were younger we used to go to the pub on Christmas day with my mum and dad then go home and have out, then we would go home for our Christmas dinner after and just sit in front of the television and fall asleep for a few hours. Now I still go shopping to Morrisons on Christmas eve like me and my dad used to do. Enjoy Christmas with my teenagers stay in pjs all day. We are going shopping on boxing day for the first time that should be fun. Plus it's my daughter birthday in December. I love Christmas
That sounds like you had some lovely childhood traditions and some lovely ones that you do now with your kids too. Its so magical isn't it? I love it too. x
I was always the most enthusiastic person of my family about christmas. Since I have my own kids and since I saw your vlogmas last year I was wanting to do a similar advent calendar. I think that these small things are the ones they will always remember! So, thank you so much for sharing what you've put in every day/drawer. I simply love it!
Couldn’t agree more Katie, I’ve done a traditional calendar with notes like .. today we write to Santa, family games night, donations to charity and animal shelters, write Xmas cards to friends, feed the birds etc ... they get so much as it is it’s nice to bring it back to basics xxxx
Love all your ideas. we tend to mix it up every year with advent sometimes a choc calendar or a lego/something different calendar or my own made up one. Every Christmas eve we always do a treasure hunt to find a box of comfy PJs socks, hot choc, acitivity book and film. My girls love the excitement finding the clues around the house x
Ah the treasure hunt sounds like a lovely idea, that is such a cute tradition. My girls love a treasure hunt, I might make a note of that and use it next year as one of my activities for the advent calender. We could have a treasure hunt one day. Thank you. x
Yay Katie! I was about to ask you if you were going to vlogmas again and i can't wait! I'll be knitting in front of them and enjoy the moment with your little family. I used to have a chocolate advent calender but as my sister and I got older, we just enjoy being together with my mom and all. But these are so original for kids and it's another way to create memories. I loved that in the vlogmas last year.
Great idea. I’ve done a book advent calendar for my little girl who will be 1 just after Christmas. 25 books is a lot so I may do something similar to this for next year :) x
This is a lovely idea. I did a similar thing for my husband the first year we were married. They weren’t all activities, some days I just left notes hidden in his car. This year for my 3 year old I’ve made him an advent calendar and added chocolates and Thomas minis that I got from Poundland.
This is lovely! Thanks for the inspo. I'm definitely going to put together something like this for our family this year. Mr 2-year-old might be a little young for a few but we'll try and make them work. Please keep us up to date with how you guys go doing all the activities!!
Our favourite Christmas tradition is to visit a local dairy farm for breakfast (ice cream) on Christmas eve then call in to our favourite farm shop for treaty goodies then watch christmas movies. We're also doing activities this year xx
I’m so happy you’ve done this video. I found your channel back in March, it was your birthday vlog which I remember so clearly because we have the same birthday! Anyway, I’ve binged watched your past vlogmas’s and I loved the way you did your advent calendar. My little boys are 2&3 and I’m uncomfortable with the whole present a day thing with the big calendars so cannot wait to start our own little traditions doing it this way. It’s such a lovely thing to do & memories they’ll have forever unlike an overpriced crappy toy. Love it! Thank you Katie. Ps-I’m sat here with a pen & paper 😂 xx
Ah thanks so much Selina, firstly for subscribing and secondly I am glad you liked the video. I just think it is a really nice way of doing little traditions and memories with your family. x
That is such a lovely idea xx we do elf on the shelf my girls love that ! this year to go along side that we are doing something similar to your advent calendar . but our elf will bring an activity or something along each day as well doing naughty things xx
I have never done Elf on the Shelf but it looks lots of fun I enjoy seeing other people's over on instagram. Thats cute that your elf will bring an activity or something each day too. x
This is the best idea ever. I love it. ❤ My hubby hates how much people spend at Christmas but then don't do the lovely Christmas traditions that don't cost a thing..he will love this idea. I love the idea for giving the ziplock bags too..it would give me the nicest Christmas feeling to do this with my girl. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas. You always do such nice things with your kids, my girl is nearly 2 and I am learning so many tips from you, your kids seem so well brought up and just the loveliest little people. xx
Thanks Jayne for such a lovely comment. I am the same as your husband, I don't spend a lot on my kids at christmas just because they don't need it all. So I love doing this with my three. x
Great list! have picked out 12 of them to consider - my fave is sleeping in front of the tree - the kids would LOVE that! Not sure how much sleeping would happen though!
Love this idea Katie , we also give our boys a little treat every day in their Advent calendar and also sing Christmas songs before checking what is inside :) I would definitely give a try to some of the activities you mentioned ! :) Thanks for sharing with us
Also, I soooo love the idea of making a list of each decoration, makes me want to do a little cry thinking about sending my future kid off with their childhood bag of decorations 🥰
Stuck in quarantine times thinking of Christmassy things! Thank you for sharing your ideas! I have a few new ones to add to our own advent rings this year!!
I watched your vlogmas last year and thought this was a lovely idea that I would love to do with my little once she's old enough to understand! It did strike me as funny that a lot of your tasks involve turning the lights off!! Your Christmas traditions are very energy efficient😂
I love you’re ideas 💡 they’re amazing you really helped me .Is the first Christmas I’m attempting to do an activity advent calendar(they don’t have them in Greece ,I had to make my own from matchboxes)so 🙏 for the help.I am also adding a indoor treasure hunt to make a Christmas puzzle!
Love this, I watched you do this last year and thought it was lovely so I've bought my own calendar this year and hope to do the same. Great way to make memories x
For the last few years my Dad has brought me and my sister (he has brought one for us again this year and we are 31 and 28!) the Divine Chocolate Advent Calendar which I love because not only is the chocolate Fairtrade, behind each door is the Nativity story, being a Christian it means a lot to me.
Wow I love this idea, My girls are 16,12 and 9 so not sure if it would work with them. Maybe a pamper evening and things? You've got me thinking now. X

Loved this video Katie, some great ideas in there. Our kids like to sleep downstairs once a month? My husband brings down their mattresses though and they sleep on the living room floor 😂 can’t wait to put up our tree on the first of December too! Love how you keep track of each new decoration for the kids to take when they leave home 😢 💕
Aww that is such a cute idea and I bet they will remember those special memories when they are older. We are definitely going to attempt to all sleep on the floor at least once over December. x
